Once upon a time, in the mystical and whimsical Land of Ooo, there lived two self-proclaimed sisters. The oldest, a Demon tied to the Setting Sun, and the other—younger by just a few years—a Vampire Queen.

Together they could do anything. And so, they embarked on an epic quest: To bring the sickest, gnarliest licks their guitars could produce to the unsuspecting people of Ooo.

And possibly save the world if they felt like it.

That was what Starlight Glimmer had sought when she set up her community, a place where all ponies would be equal in everything they had or did. No fighting, no competition, no cutie marks: it would be the perfect symbol of Equality by which the rest of Equestria would rally behind.

But one stormy night, a mysterious mare arrives to question Starlight about her beliefs, doubting whether Equality is truly what Ponykind needs. Surely such notions are those of an older time, and Equality is a future that Starlight can defend.

Rainbow Dash's mother is Daring Do. And she's inconveniently off "researching" her next book.

Now, Rainbow Dash has to go on a journey. A journey of self-discovery. A journey of a thousand unanswered questions.

A journey to find...her biomom.

Oh, and there's an ancient alicorn tomb and a closely guarded secret that'll change the history of Equestria forever, but that's just another day in the life of Daring Do.

(This story ignores certain details established by the Journal of the Two Sisters and the Daring Do chapter books.)

Tempest Shadow would be the first pony to tell you she's not worthy of friendship. All she deserves after a life spent helping the Storm King conquer and pillage is four walls, bars, and solitude. When a landslide hits the Pie Family Rock Farm following the previous night's rain shower, Maud of all ponies becomes troubled after seeing so many different crystals all at once. It was because of how the glow they gave off remind her of Rarity, and the time they spent in Manehatten. Although she did an amazing job at not showing it to anypony face to face, Maud would be emotionally touched anytime something shiny came into her view. Considering the sudden change of events, however, she hadn't much choice but to be near them. After sifting through numerous amounts of gemstones scattered as far as the eye could see, Maud ends up finding possibly the most beautiful diamond of them all, and aims to send it to Rarity as a gift.

The only other pony to discover all of this was even happening would be Marble, Maud Pie's sister.
