In a world of peace, magic and harmony, a flawed human presence may not seem necessary. When Simon returns from outer space to find his world inhabited by creatures with an almost innate perfection, he certainly suspects this to be true. As Simon discovers and documents the fate of his species, and learns how Equestria was built on the ruins of man, he fears that he will prove himself irrelevant. But things are not always what they seem, and the life of the last human may still have meaning.

Originally intended to be one scene set in one room in which the question, "Why would a human need to be in Equestria?" was answered, my theory to address the question has expanded to the scale of a small epic. I hope it works.

A lot of the concepts and facts introduced here are so vast and academic, they really can't be expressed in dialogue. Instead a number of scenes are in "written document" format to give the reader a thorough information-dump. This is a world-building fic.

I also omit a lot of the Slice-of-life, getting-to-know-you scenes you see a lot in HiE because the focus is on concepts rather than actions.

I wish to achieve the following with this fanfiction:
Create a character whose strengths and weaknesses are clear, or become clear as the story progresses.
Give the human character a compelling reason to be in Equestria based on an interpretation of the themes of the show.
Present a theory about the character of Twilight Sparkle and her intended role in the future of Equestria
Accurately portray existing characters from the show

On a dark night filled with even darker magics, an insane cult attempts to give Nightmare Moon a body and life of her own, utterly separate from Princess Luna. But, when the spell is interrupted by Celestia, something unexpected is created.

Now, a little black alicorn filly named Nyx finds herself living under the care of Twilight Sparkle, only to be haunted by memories and emotions from her past. Is she Nightmare Moon reborn or is she simply a doppelganger with a soul and mind of her own? Can Twilight Sparkle protect Nyx from those who refuse to see past her dragon eyes and black coat?

Or, will Nyx be forced to inherit the sins that may not even be hers and become the greatest evil Equestria has ever known?

Many years ago, shortly before the birth of one Twilight Sparkle, Celestia, ruler of Equestria, found a small item in a forest. That item? An egg. Around the same time, in another place, Celestia, ruler of Draconica found something small in a forest. That thing? A pony.

Y’know, I try to be open-minded, but I still never thought I’d wind up taking a trickster god’s place in a world of candy-colored horses. My name’s Chance, and I’m in way over my head.

What? Suppose I should back up a little. I'm just your average guy. I try to be nice to folks, when I'm near them, but mostly I just like to be alone with my stories. In hindsight, I should have been more suspicious about the old man in the bookstore, but no point crying over it now. I'll admit, this is exciting! A whole new world of magic and whimsy to explore? Count me in!

A group of five ponies who have never met each other. All meet up at the local bar in ponyville where they become good friends as we share their live in ponyville. To introduce from left to right: the pegasus pony up top is Foxglove, the energetic artist who discovers the world below Cloudsdale and how much more color it has. The tri-colored mane pony is Pinstripe, the smartalec brainiac pony who is a resident of Ponyville testing out his new experiments. The blue pony is Starbuck, the passive unicorn pony who is caretaker of a bookstore in Ponyville. The purple unicorn is Skylight Spinner, the bubbly and energetic host of the Ponyville radio station. And the orange pegasus pony is Radburn, the mellow pot-bellied owner of the local pub. Join them in their crazy antics. From fun to life to romance.

A colt by the name of Silver Spark arrives in Ponyville to get away from the posh experiences from Manehattan. He meets Twilight Sparkle in which she introduces him to her other friends. Throughout his meeting n' greeting his cutie mark catches a lot of attention from the mane 6. Pinkie Pie throws a welcome party only for it to be interrupted by a distraught looking Princess Celestia. She has teleported from Canterlot to gain some help from Twilight and her friends because of the return of Queen Chrysalis.

The Mane 6 have been cordially invited to the Royal Wedding... Connor, too!

This branched off of my first fic, "Equestria's First Human."
