I think the brevity of the story is what makes it effective. Sure, future chapters would certainly be possible, but the main point has already been made. There really doesn't need to be any more.

Clearly Future Twilight hadn't been completely truthful. I bet Future Twilight had lived her life to the fullest, and was with her friends during each of those events, because the Future Twilight had warned her when she was still Past Twilight. To keep the timeline stable, Future Twilight went into the past to warn Past Twilight just as she had been warned when she was younger.
Thus, when Past Twilight becomes older, she'll travel back in time, thus becoming Future Twilight, to warn her past self.
OR, Future Twilight ceased to exist after she warned her past self. If that's the case, does that mean her entire future was erased as well? What happened to all the ponies in that future? Did they all get erased from reality as well? Seems pretty selfish to erase the possible future of millions just to erase your own past mistakes.
