Darksymphony did a read of the rewritten chapter here
During one of her many passion projects, Twilight decides to try and track down the origins of magic and where everypony came from. Her library is chock full of various different theories, none of them very helpful. She decides, instead, to ask Princess Celestia.
However, the answer she gets is far more absurd than she bargained for. An answer so detached from reality that it takes a physical manifestation of it to show Twilight the extent of the terrifying source of magic and what it did to a once-benign world to render it and its inhabitants so fantastical.
"You were never the first ones here, nor were you the second. We were the second."
This is really good at the concept is great
Interesting. Very interesting. I hope that they had a friendly if not "loving" relationship with the ones they they assisted with.
A very interesting story
This is pretty good.
Uh huh
It implies a sequel. I am now curious.
more please i need more the lore master in me needs more lore
this need a part 2
Who is the author of the image?
Reminds me of this cartoon I started to watch, "Dr Stone", I think it was called. I didn't get too far in before I started a break from it.
10438332
stickfigurequeen on e621.
10438332
Look in the source. The artist was StickFigureQueen, but when the world needed them most, they vanished.
10437960
They most definitely did, as strange and terrifying as it was to see self-aware machines to the makers.
10438363
I know of it too. It's an interesting concept, but it gets tedious really fast. A lot of people still like it, though, so that's fun.
10438377
I only got to the bit where they ditch japanese disney's tarzan and find the big copper buddha statue.
10438380
Oh, that's when it started to get 'interesting'. There's actually a moment later where the group finds a village, making the new technology fun to see because you get to see the reaction of what are essentially 'primitives' to modern technology.
10438383
Nice. I'm pretty sure I still have the tab open, I'll look at it in the morning.
Good concept and story.
10438376
To quote that roomba image from way back, humans will pack bond with anything!
(I believe that badumsquish even doodled it)
The ponies were what came after 3rd impact and Human Instrumentality.
I wonder how Celestia and Luna would react if a human found their way into their world Isakai style. One that lived while they being made.
10438745
I think it's more likely they just blew themselves up.
Good story. Would love to see sequel to it if possible.
Hey, since Twilight is an Alicorn now, does that mean that when the Element of Harmony ascended her, that they actually vaporised her old body, and her consciousness was uploaded to an immortal mechanical body like the sisters have? Is she a robot and doesn't even know it?!
10439642
I kind of thought about this question as well. Honestly it could be either option.

Welp, since this story became a shocking surprise (I was told that no one would read sci-fi, so I just recycled this old idea from 2015), I'll make the proper full story now.
Maybe people will read this one. Seems promising. Doing it right now.
10440138
Huzzah!
10440138
Oh this sounds good will have to look out for it and I love Sci fi
10440138
Neato burrito. Depending on how far along it goes, I'm available currently as a proof/editor.
Im looking forward towards the sequel now. Now we need the prototype model to join them. Maybe have a half pony half machine hybrid.
10440330
I'll publish the chapter now, and if it's really bad then sure, you can help proofread it.
10440330
Oh, and if I'm motivated (depending on the comments and amount of views I get during a set time), it takes me a day to write a chapter. They're never that long so that's why.
10439642
That's... that's actually not a bad theory.
Though, there is something that even makes me curious about your theory. If her body got vaporized by the Elements, how did the machine appear in an instant for her conscious to be uploaded without the slightest possibility of her not feeling anything wrong? I'm going to assume either Celestia or Luna had either built it before Twilight's ascension or.... maybe the makers did and they are possibly still alive, even with the explanation being given by both princesses.
10440366
There's something I've found interesting about this story. And it's about the makers. Is it possible that they may have had some connection to how ponies came to be? It feels like maybe there is some lore as to how the makers created the princesses, but also having some involvement in the creation of life. I know this might sound crazy, but I almost have this thought that every pony on the planet has some connection to the makers with them not knowing it since their existence. This makes me wonder if Cadance doesn't know more about herself with how the princesses have kept this secret from her, too.
However, I could be wrong with how I'm theorizing this.
Love the story! We need a sequel to it!
10440520
A SEQUEL YOU SAY? WELL, YOU'RE IN LUCK!
10440520
Life is known to pass in front of your eyes as you die.
10440524
WOOOOO! PRAISE CELESTIA!
Time to read it then!
someone call harold finch
and get root too
This is why you don't drain the swamplands, folks. If you rely on nothing but nonbasic sources, they start to leak. And don't get me started on Yawgmoth's tomb...
Oh, wait, this was before magic. My bad. Proceed.
Oh dear. Getting Biblical, are we?
Oh. Oh. Very nice. I do love a good precursor story, and this was a fine example of one. Thank you for it.
10440693
There's always the sequel I'm doing in response to the shocking success of this one. I published the first chapter of it already.
And thanks for liking it (and especially commenting. I miss regular comments)
10440138
*loud squee* priase beith thee
10440719
And it's out!
this reminds me of the machine from person of interest
10440877
The what from what?
10440895
person of interst is a show fucused around a comassonate AI called 'the machine' that secretly watches everyone and everything and uses it to predict voilence, when It finds acts of muder coming into the future it will tell the main characters of the show (a ex cia oprative only known as john reese who ended up knowing too much had been airstriked by his own people, and a crippled man names harold finch who orginally built the machine.) who aid in protecting and preventing the death that the machine predicted. the machine is very kind and compassonate that reminds me of celestia
here watch the intro
Well, I'm certainly curious now....
~Skeeter The Lurker
10440942
A kind AI? Most of the time they're either brief acquaintances that die almost instantly or just evil and last forever.
10441358
not in that show
10441964
That's a nice breath of fresh air.
I wanted to do that :c
Is this story anthro or not?
10442200
Not entirely sure. They are bipedal, but they don't have the features that would make them traditionally anthro.
Oh I’ve gotta read the sequel!
