On the last mission to save Equestria, Rainbow Dash was hurt. Not critically and she'll heal, but for now she's grounded. But she also promised that she'd do a Sonic Rainboom at the next Wonderbolts show for Scootaloo's parents, and she is not going to let her girl down.

Solution: get another Rainbow Dash.

There's just two problems.

First, Spitfire knows her team backwards and forwards and she's not fooled.

Second, the human Rainbow Dash doesn't actually know how to do a Rainboom as a pony.

I'm sure this won't cause any problems.

Equestria is an old nation, and one that has had the luxury of the same, immortal, regime for centuries. While this has given them unprecedent stability, especially in a land that seeks to throw a world-ending threat at them every other Tuesday, it does come with a tendency for the rulers to not so much repeal laws as just ignore them and act as if they've been done away with already.

Most of the time, this works out just fine. Until another immortal--such as, say, a starving royal changeling looking for somepony to help her regain her strength--remembers these laws and invokes them to use to their own advantage. By arriving at Twilight Sparkle's castle and declaring herself a member of Twilight's royal harem.

And she's just the first.

Frostheart did not enjoy the period of Hearth’s Warming. It was too loud; too bright; there were far too many ponies everywhere; And far more importantly, there was far too much good cheer and joyous feelings abound.

And since, as a windigo, she kinda needed negative emotions to survive, that last one was a serious problem.

Which in turn forced her into having to sneak into a pony settlement during Hearth’s Warming Eve in order to find some negative emotions to eat. The plan was simple, find somepony having a bad night, have a discreet meal, and leave. In and out, minimal contact with the ponies. Easy.

Now if only she could tell why the settlement’s name was ringing alarm bells in her mind things could be perfect! Oh well, she could think about it more as she searched for a target within Ponyville.

The space race is over, and the third flight of ESA Amicitas is not yet even contemplated, but life goes on for the first changeling queen on the moon and her hive.

Faced with the necessity of keeping track of all her subjects and proving that they are, in fact, hers, Chrysalis decrees the Badlands Hive's first ever census. And normally this would produce merely normal levels of changeling stupidity, silliness and shenanigans...

... but what happens when a name pops up, and you can't prove that the changeling attached to it even exists?

Takes place in late winter after the end of Changeling Space Program and about two years before the beginning of The Maretian.

Times change.

It's a slow process, usually. Over the eons, civilizations rise and fall, cultures change, new technologies get invented and become lost. For the individual person, such events happen too slowly to even notice.

However, sometimes, change is sudden and cataclysmic. A catastrophe forces people to take drastic actions, upending their known world completely. One such event happens to the three pony tribes in the form of the Long Winter, forcing them to flee their ancestral lands.

The vast majority of them flee southwards, with the exception of one earth pony clan. Past the steep northern mountains, the refugees are doing their best to adapt to their new surroundings and rebuild their homes. These are their stories.
