Eternal lurker, new writer.

This story is a sequel to Agate's Vigil

Times change.

It's a slow process, usually. Over the eons, civilizations rise and fall, cultures change, new technologies get invented and become lost. For the individual person, such events happen too slowly to even notice.

However, sometimes, change is sudden and cataclysmic. A catastrophe forces people to take drastic actions, upending their known world completely. One such event happens to the three pony tribes in the form of the Long Winter, forcing them to flee their ancestral lands.

The vast majority of them flee southwards, with the exception of one earth pony clan. Past the steep northern mountains, the refugees are doing their best to adapt to their new surroundings and rebuild their homes. These are their stories.

A prequel to how the snowponies came to be. Each chapter is a separate story.

So hey. Those who read my stuff on /mlp/ will know this one already. This is actually my first finished story. Just a little green I wrote out in a snowpony thread when I got a flash of inspiration one day. I brushed it up a tiny bit and converted it to a format more acceptable to fimfic.

I'm still learning and experimenting with how to best write and present stories. I have some more ideas about stories to tell the journey Sunflower's clan goes through to eventually become snowponies. They'd likely be short ones like this, told through the perspective of different characters adapting to new life in the north.

Should I post them all as one-shots? Or slap an "Anthology" tag on this one and keep adding to it?

If they all relate to snow ponies, slap an anthology tag on it

Have you thought if woolly mammoth‘s live around the snow ponies? I read a story year ago that had a civilization of them way way up north which was like one of the coolest arcs in the Rainbow Dash goes North story.

After seeing much of the art and lore for Snow Ponies I think they could live side by side or nearby like the Buffalo are with the ponies.

Sorry to stray from this story which is very good short one. Really shows how ponies adapted and changed slowly to become a new pony. Fish is good

Btw is this just one chapter?

I'd say anthology

That's all I have with Sunflower for now. Might add more with her later, though the idea was to show the changes their society goes through and how they slowly discover and adapt ways to live in the north through the eyes of different ponies.

Alright.

Ooof. Already lots of worldbuilding to do with snowponies. I don't think I'll be adding more sapient creatures into the mix in my stories.

Nice short story about ponies learning to survive in a foreign land. Be interesting to see where it goes from here.

we need a snow pony/ yakutian tag.

That'd be nice. Looking at the tag list, there's a number of tags that exist, but have 0 stories attached to them. I think snowpones deserve one.

That was a good story goodluck with the next chapter.

I hope you return to this anthology at some point after you finish Agate's story. World-building is practically a bread-and-butter item for me in reading. And even with this short snapshot it feels like a part of a larger world not a silly self-contained one-shot.

Example, do the pones snow or otherwise ever try and retrace their ancient ancestors paths/look for artifacts from the old world? Or was it 100% lost civilization never to be seen again?

I did have thoughts for approximately... Half a dozen more short stories in the proto-snowpony era, yes. Not much, though.

Well for what it's worth I'd be happy to act as a impromptu idea bouncing wall if you like.

For example Last summer I started a couple of quick story sketches about ponies in Pompeii and some Darwinian style Origin of the species notes.
