When I was young, I woke up in the Everfree. I couldn't remember my name or where I came from before waking in that cursed forest. All I could remember was hunger and the need to hunt. Yet I travelled with a filly I should have turned into a snack. The only thing that held me back was that she held a clue to my missing past.

Danger surrounded us in that evil place; a pack of wooden wolves, an angry dragon, little blue flowers with a twisted sense of humour, and something else even more terrible than the rest combined. But the biggest threat of all lay hidden in my past. After all, what is worse, the threat you see coming, or the one that you trusted?

This is the first book of The Humanity Within Trilogy. Its sequel is What I've Done.

These seven students at Queen Twilight's Friendship University are the Elements of Magic -- Sun, Moon, Earth, Chaos, Order, Love and Self. A year ago, they first came together to stop the deadly Diamond Queen from turning all of Equestria to beautiful crystal, and turn her back to Good Queen Rarity of the Crystal Empire. Now, plants are growing out of control all over Equestria, and violent storms have trapped the Changelings and the pegasi of Canterlot. Queen Twilight Sparkle summons the Elements of Magic to combat the new threat.

Rarity never thought she would be a mother. In her late teens and early twenties, she always thought her friends might end up with big families of their own, but doubted she'd ever find something that would work with the life she wanted to make room for a family. However, if she's learned anything since then, it's that the Goddess spits on the plans of ponies. Things would turn for the better, things would turn for the worse, and when the weight was all too much, I couldn’t bear it. Just as things change, oh so much stays the same.

Nineteen years after Luna was freed and fourteen years after Princess Twilight rose to power and began to modernize Equestria, Big Mac has finally made it on his own. Enough land he can work on his own, a loving wife, two great kids. However, as Granny used to say, when it rains, it pours.

One terrible truth after another, Mac learns of a life he may have ruined without ever being a part of it. In an effort to fulfill his legacy and pass on his heritage, Mac does what a stallion does and tries to fix it.
