Things have been going well for Sunset Shimmer since the Friendship Games. She's on good terms with the students at Canterlot High School, she has a close circle of friends she can depend on, and most of all, she now has a new friend and research partner in the form of the human world's Twilight Sparkle. With a brand new avenue in magical research now open to her, not even the prospect of her upcoming birthday can get in the way of her hope for the future.
Then her latest experiment blew up in her face.
Reduced to a mare in a child's body, Sunset has to find a way to reverse what she's done and return to what qualifies as normal in this world. But in a world where magic was a fairy tale until a few months ago, things are going to be more than a little difficult on that front. And as she struggles to maintain her adult mind against the immaturity of her current form, her friends are faced with the possibility that they may lose their friend forever.
And the Great God Murphy smiles and bestows His blessing upon her.
Not a bad start, be interesting to see where this will go.

Ah, the hallmark of mad science: building a machine that you don't really know what it does, but whatever it is, it'll probably be cool. Actually on that note I like to think of the Equestria Girls universe as basically running on the same rules as a superhero comic universe, save that for some reason no real superheroes (nor supervillains) have shown up yet, though perhaps some mad science has. This is the reason why no one really seems all that interested in magic beyond its ability to help or hinder inter-school sports events: the world has seen some strange stuff before.
That or it's a kid's TV show world that just doesn't want to deal with it. That's cool.

when it was revealed that Sunset is now mentally a filly I thought that the best thing to due is send her back to Equestria for the time being but then when Sunset admits that Princess Celestia scares her so much that she can't ever go home, now if only Princess Twilight were here to explain that Celestia actually feels like she failed Sunset not the other way around and just wants to see her again and let we guess and say that when Sci-Twi said that they will get though this she was not just talking about the de-aged Sunset.

Hmm. Actually, given what they were messing with, I'm wondering if what the machine did was somehow accidentally "grab" an Age Spell from Equestria, one that was in the process of being cast.

Not helping her is the fact that humans have an instinctive sense of how "big" they are - i.e., I instinctively know how far it is from my shoulder to the tips of my fingers. But, children - especially young children - grow so fast that they actually out-pace this instinct: they literally don't know how big they are. This is why kids can seem so needlessly clumsy sometimes.
Add this to her body thinking that she's a filly, not a human, but MLP fillies and colts probably dealing with the same basic problem...

Given that I find Sunset's feelings towards Pony!Celestia believable since she's apparently never been back to Equestria since EQ1, and knowing what we do about how Twilight sometimes gets about her...I REALLY hope that if she takes another student after Twi, she'll have gotten the hint and adjusted her teaching methods to QUIT GIVING HER STUDENTS FREAKING COMPLEXES ABOUT PLEASING HER! If it hasn't happened already, one of these days, one of her students is gonna have a Lesson Zero type incident SO bad it'll actually turn them into a major threat to the kingdom. In fact, with Sunset it could be argued that THIS ALREADY HAPPENED!
And speaking of complexes about parental figures, I really hope that SciTwi's feelings about her parents are just a projection of her treatment at Crystal Prep...
