I'm surprised you didn't do this with all the other stories you'll be submitting soon.

Looks interesting, put on my read-later for now

4814151
This one is special to me.

4814256
You won't regret it!

4814270 How special are we talking about here?

4814319
'Best story I've ever written' special. :raritywink:

4814336 It can't be as good as the story you posted before this one. That one was... I can't describe it with words it was so good.

4814348
Heh, well, this one is a different kind of good.

TOT it was soo sad at the ending

This is heart-wrenching...beautiful work! <3

4814354 What kind? The tasty kind? The samaritan kind? Or is it the kind with luck?

4814382
Good, good.

4814388
Thanks! :twilightblush:

4814411
The 'wiping tears from eyes' kind.

Are you planning to submit this to my group? I'm totally okay with submissions that people started writing before the starting point :rainbowlaugh:

4814438
:rainbowderp:
Which group?
I join a lot of groups.

4814455 The writing challenges one! The first challenge is a story based off of a song ^^

4814465 I added it!

4814469
 That was easy!

4814418 How is that good? Isn't that sad.

4814482
Same thing, sometimes.

4814486 Time to actually read this and judge it :derpytongue2: From the other people's comments (and yours) I'm pretty sure this shall be good

When i read the word mommy i couldn't help it... I cried.

Sequel?

Looks like I've got some insanely tough competition in this contest. If your story doesn't beat mine, I'll be disappointed. Very well done!

And one more thing, for your editing convenience:

It was barely more than a bolder overhanging a slight hollow in the cliff.

The feels! :raritydespair:
I loved reading this. Have an upvote and a favorite!

Damnit, you did it, I hope you're happy...

Seriously, I would normally say "great work as always" but that seems too petty here. There were several points where I was at the edge in the story, same as the first time I read it, but right at the end the dam broke. The differences were subtle, I'm not sure if it's that or the fact that I wasn't reading it for critique that did it, but it accomplished the desired goal all the same.

So you managed to write a good sad fic without tropes or cheap tricks, if you're not proud of that you're an idiot.

Cheers, Null

TGM

You can certainly write better than me.

Also I find it interesting how different we painted Chrysalis's personality. You painted her as a kind, caring mother who only wants to look out for the good of her children, while I painted her as a caring, prideful, but expecting mother who is also hungry for power.

And for the record, I don't see this as you copying me, like you posted in my fic. Great story.

That the two of you managed to occupy the Featured box side by side with these ChrysaMom stories is no mean feat. Good show!

My only real complaint was that this:

The drone looked up at me. I knew him. Drizzt, one of my finest warriors.

was just a wee bit too meta. In a comedy piece it's easily ignored, but in a sad feels-y work that kind of reference / shout-out breaks the immersion.

Well, that was touching. :fluttercry: However, there is one aspect that puzzles me: If changelings feed on love, then why is it the love they feel towards each other cannot feed themselves or each other? :rainbowhuh: Still loved it. Good luck.

4815335 I think it's because of a specific kind of energy. It's like being a battery. Can't give a charge without losing it.

JESUS CHRIST! :fluttercry:

You....you made something many would deem empty, hollow, and any other verb in the book, and...you made her live, come to life only to fall at the most critical moment...which added to the sad. :pinkiesad2:

I want to see the story involving little Buzzik now. :raritydespair: I'm sure it would be amazing...

4815432 Were it anything but love, I'd be inclined to agree with you.

4814499
You won't regret it. :raritywink:

4814521
Oh yes, there will be a sequel -- like it says in the author's notes. ^.^
The sequel will follow the adventures of Buzzik... as soon as I think of a way to do that which wouldn't be totally cliched.

4814539
:facehoof:
How can a mistake like that still be in there? *fixed*
Heh, and that's not even the contest I intended this story for ^.^
It's also my entry for the EqD summer fanfic contest.

4814720
Thanks! ^.^

4814735
Glad to hear it! :twilightblush:
And yeah, super proud!

4814781
It all comes with practice, and for the record, your third story is a lot better than my third story...
It's just weird that we both have such similar stories up... and that they both featured... and that we both have the same cover artist... :rainbowderp:
And I liked the psychotic element in yours ^.^
You know, I might even include some of that in the sequel to this one. It could really work to have Buzzik going a little crazy and hallucinating a live and order-giving Chrysalis... especially given that he's recently recovered from head injuries.

4815064
Well, it featured in the non-mature feature box at least, and that's something!
But yeah, it is weird to see these two similar stories side-by-side!

4815335
Well, the way I see it, the changelings' love for each other can be used to transfer energy between them, but it cannot generate new energy. They are, at heart, a parasitic race.

4815468 I maintain my previous statement.

4815481 Ever had unrequited love?

4815432
Pretty much.

4815443
Glad I was able to do that! And yes, I'm already gathering a few good ideas about the sequel.

4815486 I concede. Game, set and match.

4815468 No problem. Keep up the good work!

Oh. OH GOD. IT HURTS. :raritycry:

You've torn out my heart lady. Uuugghh... I need to stop reading these sad stories, my feels are getting overworked.

4815562
At least this one is an uplifting, redeeming sort of hurt? That's what I was going for, anyway.

Sad and beautiful. Too bad Chrysy had to die *plays a song over it*

Sure, she showed in the comics later, but still.

I'll stay around for the sequel! :pinkiehappy:

4815624 Thanks a thousand times for sequeling this.

4815673
:rainbowkiss:
Another good song choice, I'd say!

4815676
Well, I haven't sequelled it yet. Just planning to. Who knows how long it might take.

4815624 Yeah, this left a really bittersweet feeling after reflecting on it. (In a good way)

You have fantastic talent as a writer, and I'm waiting for the sequel!

I don't normally get emotional over sad stories, but this this right here sucker punched me in the feels so hard that the tears practically exploded out. i'm not just saying this as a placation, this story was very very good. Well written, excellent imagery, and it flows very well. and that ending, gut gott, that ending. now if you'll excuse me i'll be in that corner being an inconsolable mess. Carry on.

4815813
Aw! :pinkiesad2:
You're going to make me emotional, reading that.
I'm glad it's making an impact! :rainbowkiss:

We could have conquered the ponies slowly, gradually stealing their love and never breaking disguise.

Yep, and there you go smashing any hope you have of getting my sympathy, Chryssie. In the end, yours was a self-serving race of enslaving invaders with nary a thread of true remorse. You're only sorry you lost. Good riddance.

4815890
True, but can they help that? They're born to be parasites.

4816029 Clever parasites work toward benefitting their hosts. Then the hosts come to seek them out, even depend on them for survival! They then cease to be parasites and become symbiotic.

Much like humans and E. coli. We need certain strains in our intestinal tract for they produce vitamin K for us, without which our blood cannot clot and we would bleed to death!

Perhaps the changelings could have evolved to... uhm... take... excess love? *tries to figure out how that could be beneficial* Oh! Like when they're battling an enemy like Tirek! The cherngelerngs could eat all the love and the ponies would be filled with hatriolic psychopathic rage and kick Tirek's flank!

That would be.. good? Right? :applejackconfused:
