When Spitfire finds herself grounded on the team injured list just before a show in Manehatten, she prepares for her life to crumble around her. The experience leads her to come across Rainbow Dash, temporarily managing the Manehatten weather teams. The two fliers will discover that sometimes it takes the darkest moments of our lives to find the brightest ones.

Soarin and Spitfire dated once; it didn’t end well. On his day off he finds her at one of their old hangouts; a secluded spot on the edge of Equestria that’s perfect for tanning, talking, and the most dangerous type of racing. They’re going to settle the score, even if it kills them.

Rainbow Dash receives a love letter from a secret admirer, and isn’t quite sure how to take it. What kind of pony sends stuff like this? Why can’t they just tell her to her face?
Thunderlane, meanwhile, isn’t sure starting this game was the smartest of ideas.

The (extremely short) original version of the story, which became the first chapter of this one, was written for The Writeoff Association's January 2015 contest, "All In"

On an unassuming carnival midway in central Equestria sits the key to your dreams: A machine that lets you, for a short time, live a life in which your greatest regret never occurred.

These are the stories of what happens after those fantasies are over.

Each chapter is a complete, self-contained vignette (though their order of presentation is deliberate).

Magic has faded and the surface has been lost, but the war rages on. Twenty years after the catastrophic start of the battle, what's left of Equestria hides in the skies, fighting for survival with machines powered by diesel.

Most don't think twice about Captain Rainbow Dash, still piloting out in the field after decades, too stubborn for a promotion to stick but too skilled to be forced into retirement. All they see is an old burned out warpony waiting to die on the battlefield. Nopony knows what Rainbow Dash is fighting for anymore. Maybe not even Rainbow Dash.
