After Equestria ended, I realised that my immortality had always been a curse.

With the aid of the remaining Equestrian royalty, I created a dream state that alicorns could slip into. A dream of our world the way it once was. A world where grass still grows and my friends aren't dead. Every day, I wake up with a smile to a world filled with simulated sunlight and imaginary ponies.

It feels just like home.

But sometimes, the hardest part of a dream is realising it was never real.

Into hell I was brought,
In form of land with danger fraught.
Waking from joyous dream,
To ever burning nightmare.

Strangers and blood-kin alike,
Wished for my head on a pike.
They labeled me “Whelp”
And a cause lost in a hard world.

My only comfort did lie,
With one who stood as lonely as I.
Surrounded by shadow and superstition,
A pale beacon in Night’s dark world.

On wings of pain and fear
I learned to soar so beacon be near.
Of combat I learned,
Gaining knowledge from each defeat.

Faith of escaping my life of pain,
Began to fade and wane,
As each day brought more suffering,
With only Night for solitude most comforting.

Opportunity arose in migration,
Thus I set out seeking my own salvation.
I parted from the monstrous clan,
Breaking shackles of torment.

I sought out shelter,
In surroundings unfamiliar.
Palace of ruin becoming home,
If only for a time.

Wandering into world strange,
Familiar sight entered my range.
One of size and strength,
Tormenting those smaller than he.

Tall dark mare with horn and wings,
Staring down a mix of three things,
With tail of a scorpion, and wings of a dragon.
With massive claws extended.

It stood ready to rend flesh from bone,
I refused to let her stand alone,
I struck out against this goliath,
Startling him away from his prey.

The mare stared me down,
The moonlight shining off of her crown.
She questioned my motives,
Unsure of my reason in defending strangers.

I assured I meant no ill,
That I didn’t wish to kill,
Yet she questioned on,
Unsure of why I had parted my clan.

Without restraint,
I told her my reason for complaint.
Of hellish pain and torture,
Withholding no detail of my past.

Proposition was offered,
By mare who would see that I prospered.
Curiosity drove me forward,
Toward opportunity anew.

Years passed with surface peace,
Yet internal pain and envy did increase,
In the Night-sister young,
Towards Day-sister and teacher.

Envy continued to build inside,
As ponies brushed the night aside.
My service turned upon teacher,
In favor of mare in torment all too familiar.

Pain was brought anew,
As she was given her “due”.
Yet I will persevere,
For in a millennia she will return.

After Twilight refuses the offer of a lifetime, Celestia becomes hostile towards her. Celestia being making threats against Twilight. Against the ones she cares for the most. Twilight needs to figure out what's making the Princess act the way she is, but her options are limited: Risk her life to solve the tyranny, or face the wrath of Princess Celestia. She will do whatever she can to fix Celestia. But she may have to fix herself along the way.

The title (and chapter names) of this story were inspired by Mumford and Sons "Broken Crown" and I'm gonna make that song work with this fic.

Princess Celestia and Princess Luna are widely considered to be goddesses incarnate of Equestria. But goddesses have entities they must answer to. A thousand years ago, Celestia was challenged by one of these entities for the fate of her domain. She won, but at a terrible cost.

Now, the Game begins again, with Twilight Sparkle and her friends caught in the middle.

Equestria's Darkest Hour was only the beginning... The end of days are fast approaching...

Twilight faced her darkness and made peace with it. Now she can face who she is, and not a moment too soon. The greatest battle in Equestrian history is about to begin, and she'll need to understand just how deep the darkness in her heart goes in order to face the threats to come. However, in preparation for the worst event in Equestrian history, she'll have to protect a mare that may be the key to everyone's destruction. Even worse, she has to deal with an old enemy/former friend that's intent on saving the world her way, which means killing the life that Twilight wishes to protect. But can a demon truly do an angel's job, or is Twilight simply deluding herself?

"Can I atone for my sins...?"

For years Diamond Tiara has been contending with dark feelings, night terrors, and blackouts she can't explain. When Apple Bloom, the love of her life, was here, she could handle it. Now that Apple Bloom is gone though, Diamond Tiara's sanity is slipping, and she's becoming something horrible. Good news, she's beginning to understand what she is now. Bad news, she hates it, because the more she learns, the less likely it seems she can be saved.

"Wh-what am I?! Apple Bloom, help me!"

She is the Guardian of Equestria, sworn to defend the golden land of Terra from any and all threats. Vale's life was saved by a Unicorn who's heart was more pure than even her own, but now she has to carry on her life and continue her own mission. That should be simple, except for three things standing in her way. Midnight has once again chosen to stand against her, the lover of the one who saved her won't leave her alone, and strange foreign emotions plague her, hindering her mission. All she knows is that something in her heart is saying this isn't right.

"What's holding me back...?"

These three, and others surrounding them, will play an integral part in the events over the next month. As for what their places on the board are, unfortunately that's not entirely up to them.

Future Twilight's life is very different compared to the normal Twilight Sparkle. At least now it's different. Before, Twilight and everypony else's lives were heading in the direction of what Future Twilight's life is now. But when Future Twilight doesn't want anypony else to get hurt, she goes back in time to stop the course of history and re-direct it.

Twilight Sparkle from the Equestria Girls Universe is on her first day to Canterlot High when an accident knocks her through the veil into Equestria.
Instead of returning home she's decided she wants to live Twilight's life.

I got the idea while writing Prism and Glimmer. This story is just to dive into what it would be like if Celestia was Twilight's biological mother. (Teen because pissed Celestia does not hold back on language. Romance tag for some Lunestia).
