Holy shit, talk about Nigromancy!
Hmm... Wonder what exactly keeps making that train think it's Johnny Storm....

Satire is a thing.
I think I've tried reading this story before, but it just ain't for me. Wish it was since it has good length, but some of it's hard for me to take just from a personal preference standpoint
When I logged into FimFiction today I had a strange hunch there'd be an update from you. Turns out I was right, heh.
Anyway, this was a pretty fun little chapter. Well, little by your standards anyway. I liked all the references you put in, especially the TF2 skit and the -1 World. I also can't get the image of beating someone to death with a rubber chicken out of my head.
It's also been a while since Rarity had some screen time. That was pretty welcome. I'm also excited to finally see where this whole Starlight Glimmer subplot is going to go soon.
This was a fun little chapter to read.
More please!

P.S.
The foreshadowing... *Shudders*

Thanks, I did try to have fun with it. May I ask you your in depth thoughts on it?
For the scenes in particular
Dream with Nightmare Moon
Visit with Rarity
Child rearing practice with Pinkie Pie
Evening with Button Mash
8335474 I'll have to get back to you on that. It's almost two a.m. here, and I need to be up for work in a few hours.
I'll gladly do so later in the afternoon, though.
-Ru
Ohhhh the references! I love em!
That was funny when you put the 'destroy things you touch' thing, it reminds me when Spencer from iCarly tried to play drums!
8335512
All right then. No rush.
Pinkie beating Dave to death with a rubber chicken, eh? I wonder why. (No, I actually don't. I know exactly why.)
8336229
I'd pay money to see someone do that to the psychotic fucker, wherever he is. Just not to fatal effect.
"Giant man versus tiny baby man"
Is Heavy Russian? :D
Well, I must say............you've done it again! You never fail to impress us with your work.
Starlight Glimmer's time is ticking closer. I can only imagine what will happen to her and the other residents of 'Our Town.'
I knew if there were any ponies who could help James and Fluttershy out with raising a child, it would be Mr. & Mrs. Cake and Pinkie Pie. I wonder if Pinkie got what James meant with that Spider-Man quip.
With the way baby ponies are interpreted, and based of "Baby Cakes" and the fact that this story has gone almost 2 years past that, I almost expected Pound and Pumpkin to say a word or two. Still, what's here works.
Speaking for myself, I question the existence of such things as televisions, VHSs, and video games of any kind (apart from arcade games) in Equestria. But for the sake of this story, you make it work. That night with Button Mash sends me on a trip down memory lane too. A fine piece of work.
I was surprised when I came across these two parts in the story.
I see what you did there!!!
I wouldn't have been an influence in those parts by any chance, was I? I'm just speculating, of course. After all, I don't know of any other reviewers mentioning Mitta still staying with Rarity, or any other 'Thomas' fans who have reviewed your works. Anyone would think you looked back into the ladder after mentioning the older fan-base.
Was that model locomotive supposed to be blue like in the early Season 2 intros? With it being blue and having a 4-4-0 wheel arrangement, I suppose it would look a 'little' like Edward.

vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/ttte/images/2/2f/FourLittleEngines68.png/revision/latest?cb=20120318225900
On a side note, I know for a fact that Edward has never raced Percy, or Gordon. It's Thomas who usually races Bertie, Percy once raced Harold, and other characters have also raced each other on occasion. The only engine Edward has ever raced is Spencer (TV original) in "Edward the Great" from Season 8. I don't think he was even racing.
vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/ttte/images/6/6a/EdwardtheGreat9.PNG/revision/latest?cb=20091107195102
Of course, that was when the show started loosing it's touch. 'Wise, old Edward' had become 'weak, feeble, worrisome Edward.' Thankfully, that's less of a problem these days; Thank you, Andrew Brenner.
What is going to happen next? I guess we'll just have to wait and find out. Another excellent chapter, my friend. 👍
Oh, one more thing. You mention Edward, Gordon and Percy, but you didn't mention your namesake? Eh? Yeah, I'm looking at you.....Mr. Bright, Red, and Splendid.
8337053
If you need confirmation about the existence of game consoles and the origins of that model train, check this out.
And no, I wasn't really thinking of anything you said when I made that reference. I just happened to notice that the locomotives eight wheels having the back half connected by a coupling rod was identical to the wheel setup on Edward. And I know Edward never really got into a race with any of the other locomotives I mentioned. I just made that up on the fly solely for the sake of making a reference to something from my childhood, although I could swear he got into a race with James at one point and managed to come out on top despite his age.
It was actually the coupling rod examination that made me think of Edward in the first place. Specifically bringing to mind an episode with Edward having to pull a train of three cars of passengers in slick wet weather when something went wrong and forced him to stop. The only line I specifically remember from that episode (Its been more than 20 years, so bear with me) was when his engineer said
Funny you mention James though. When I was five, my parents took me and my bro to a train exhibit of sorts and ended up buying me a toy model of James and one of Edward for my brother, though it had nothing to do with names. The joke was I was 5 at the time and my bro was 2. Guess what number is on their tenders.
I will say this though. The Railway Series never needed musical numbers. No one sung during episodes back then and they certainly don't need it now.
Great chapter as always.
Shorter chapter than recent ones. Can't complain though. Still as good as the others.
Great to see James interact with Rarity again, if only for a short while. Felt like they hadn't come across one another in about minute.
The curse of the world minus 1
8342108 true but the way you wrote the relationship that rarity has with James is not realistic unless you are strongly hinting at a herd plus it has been confirmed in the agents of smile book that Bon Bon and Lyra are together and that book is canon so we do have a lesbian relationship in canon they won't tell us in the show only due to age ratings.
my only beef is that Cadance hasn't shown up yet to set those James Rarity and Fluttery straight but I haven't finished reading the story so maybe it happens later. I'm sorry if this is harsh but you have basically set up a herd but won't follow through. I don;t really care if it happens but don't set it up like this without giving the main character the choice as well. because as I have read you're pushing for a herd but still breaking ponies hearts because you won't follow through or totally resolve the issue but again I have only read up to the chapter I posted my last comment on so most likely it gets resolved later but please stop writing it like a herd might happen as you'll probably get more comments like this but not from me after this rant I'm done I'll just keep reading and not comment on this issue anymore. no promises that I won't comment just not about this.
TLDR I don't like that you are teasing a herd just start one or stop writing like it might happen. also, this was my rant about this topic I'll read on and never comment about this topic again sorry
8342348
Whether or not the books are canon matters little to me due to just how flawed the series canon has become since season 3, nor am I obligated to follow anything the series' writers put into it.
8337458 (Word of warning, I may have gone a tad overboard here)
HAHAHAHAHA!!!! I've forgotten how funny that pilot for "Button's Adventures" was!
I was actually referring to the show's continuity, but I suppose this is as close as we can get. After all, JanAnimations also did the song "Let's Go and Meet the Bronies" with Lauren Faust, John de Lancie, and Tara Strong, which was also featured on the DVD, "Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony."
Now that I think about it, anyone would think that Button's toy train, a small locomotive and two passenger cars, would be a straight reference to Thomas the Tank Engine and his two coaches, Annie and Clarabel.
That little quip you wrote actually made me think,
Remember how I said that some pieces of your writing sound reminiscent to both the Railway Series and the "Thomas & Friends" TV Series? Well, that line sounds fairly similar to something else Thomas fans have both read and seen.
Being absent from the brand for 20+ years, I suppose I can understand the confusion about Edward racing. That would have been for anyone who has read and/or seen the following:
From there, two small boys fiddled with James' controls and sent him running away down the main line without his crew. Fortunately, Edward was on hand to chase him down and, with an inspector using a noose of wire rope and a shunter's pole, they were able to slow James down and take control.
That quote from Edward's driver that you remember was from the story/episode "Edward's Exploit" from Railway Series Book #21 - "Main Line Engines" and Season 2 of the TV Series. While hauling a heavy train of Enthusiasts back to Tidmouth (most likely) to meet Henry with the Special train, the weather turned for the worst and Edward's sanding gear failed. His wheels slipped fiercely and the crank-pin on his left-rear driving wheel broke, causing his left coupling rod to batter his frame and wheel splashers "up and out of shape." This forced the crew to "remove the side-rods to keep Edward's drive wheels synchronized" (Thomas Wikia) and run him on one driving axle, or, as the driver said in the book, as a single ("like an old fashioned engine); in other words, a steam locomotive with a single pair of driving wheels, like Emily in the TV Series. "Then, battered, weary, but unbeaten, Edward steamed in." That episode has recently taken the #1 episode spot in the Sodor Island Fansite's "#1 of the #1's" Poll, taking the place formerly held by "The Flying Kipper."
As far as music is concerned, believe it or not, there were instances where they were in the Railway Series.
I'll admit, songs do not belong in the Railway Series, but in the TV Series, for many, they work. Mike O'Donnell and Junior Campbell could be considered by many, the 'Daniel Ingram' of the "Thomas & Friends" TV show. The themes and instrumentals they used are classics to the fandom. Heck, in recent years, the last two song writers have taken to re-orchestrating several of their pieces. Not that the others haven't been great in their own ways.
O'Donnell and Campbell started writing actual songs for the show in Season 3 with "Thomas' Anthem" (or "Thomas' First Music Video," or "Thomas, We Love You"). Their best song is considered by most (including me) to be "The Island Song" from Season 4. Definitely, to me, one of the most heartfelt.
"Thomas, You're the Leader" (sometimes called "Roll Call Rap") was a standoffish song written by Pete Woodroffe and Charlie Grant, and performed by Chris Madin for the TV Series' 2008 special, "The Great Discovery," most likely to commemorate the brand's final 100% model-animated production. This too has proved very popular, and I love it.
After that, there were two occasions in the CGI series where the characters did sing. In "Thomas the Quarry Engine" from Season 18, a small batch of characters sang the 1907 sea shanty, "I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside." And then in the 2015 70th Anniversary Special, "Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure," the characters performed an actual music number, "Never Overlook A Little Engine," and many really enjoy it (again, including me).
The current song writer, Chris Renshaw might even be the next 'O'Donnell' or 'Campbell' for the show, if Season 20 and "The Great Race" are any indication. "The Great Race" was the TV Series' 2016 Special, inspired by the 2016 Olympic Games and was the brand's first musical. While the special itself has mixed reviews (not bad but not great), the best part about it was the music, with "Steamlining" topping the rest. I can't stop singing it myself.
So, yes, music doesn't work for the Railway Series [unless you've heard the Railway Series theme on the old book audios (below)], but it appears work for television. And with this year's special, "Journey Beyond Sodor," also turning out to be a musical, I can't wait to see what's in store; not just with the overall story, but also in terms of music.
On another note, what you said about you and your brother receiving toy models of James and Edward; boy, that brings back memories. If it was 20+ years ago, I can guess they were either ERTL Di-cast or Wooden Railway.
If you want more in-depth histories to both characters, you can check their history pages on the Sodor Island Fansite.

Phew! This has been one hay of a trip down memory lane, or should I say, memory LINE.
Then again, what more can you expect from such an in-depth brand.
8335474 Sorry about not responding before now.
1. Dream with Nightmare Moon: It was nice to see James spending some quality (dream) time with his favorite princess.
2. Visit with Rarity: Oh... my... Rarity, you naughty thing!
3. Child rearing practice with Pinkie Pie: Spider-colt, Spider-colt... Pffft hahaha! Nicely done.
4. Evening with Button Mash:

Ahhh, the memories. *Sigh*
All of these scenes were well-done, and I loved each minute reading them.
Until next time, my friend.

You DO know if James does have a herd here in Equestria things will become quite difficult, more so then what you would initially assumed.
See to normal horses and ponies, a herd would be no big deal as wild as they can be they have no responsibilities nor any consequences when it came to having more then one offspring from more then one mate as well as the fact that it's more of a Patriarch type of system.
Now in EQUESTRIA on the other hand, they live in a society governed by more then 1 Princess hierarchy based living style within Canterlot while in other places a unique set of living, for Ponyville it's as peacefully and mellow as they come. Now here is where the issues will stem if James were to make a herd with... Let's just say only the 4/6 Mane characters who have feelings for him.
Now if he WERE to make a herd with them, and seeing how they all want to spend time with him equally, it's impossible for various factors;
1. Rainbow Dash lives in the clouds so traveling from Point A to Point B will take a while as well as careful planning if he's gonna sustain a job that's on the ground and not risk falling through the clouds when he gets tired from a height I can only assume at bare minimum will severed his spine so he can't walk again
2. Twilight lives in a Library so while it does show there's plenty of room for him to go around, there isn't any possible way for him to live with her in an area where it won't be inconvenient to when it's active in the day time and I highly doubt the basement is a place to sleep in unless you're a delinquent
3. Rarity may have a big place but she needs to sustain her focus on her job as a dress making fashionista, and all those times she spends with James would sometimes pander her skills, not saying she'll be bad, but the consistency and commitment will surely be altered if he were to spend that much time with her
4. Fluttershy seems to be the only good candidate to be with since he likes the simple quiet life compared to the other three with high altitude living style, large amount of clients, and deep reading focus for each mare. The only downside I see is the smell of animals everyday perhaps but seeing as how they're Equestrian and not Wild animals they have sentience to bathe themselves well
And don't get me started on the princesses as well; He doesn't like the extravagant high class society living style because if there's anything I know about high class people it's this:
So yea, imagine if you'll have to deal with that EVERYTIME you visit the princess cause they're "part of your herd" you got, oh and any sort of hostility or aggression towards them back will only make them better while degrading your image more from how you look, speak, and what you are.
8346204 dude my whole rant is done I just wrote that to say it and get my feelings off my chest can you just drop it, please
8347047
You were rather hostile about it when I didn't need that kind of confrontation. But if you are done with this, fine.
8351930
Oh no dont get me wrong, im not putting it down. Your writing is great actually! I just dont like the fact he is justifying having 2 girlfriends by saying he has a lot of love to give. Reminds me too much of Bekki on why she had multiple boyfriends while dating me. I never felt more betrayed and used.
8351948
That was simply how I described it at first. I may end up revising it when I proofread the chapter since I'm not certain that's the best way to say it.
8351988
It really wasn't. I get what you were trying to go for, but saying Rarity has his love just sounds like he doesnt love Fluttershy.
8352326
And yet if it's in a "dream world" it wouldn't really count neither, the only way Cheating would count is if it's in the physical plane of existence where they really experienced it in the world where they are awake and on in their daily lives
Dreams, Imagination, Comic books perhaps since it's not a real world don't really count as any form or way to "cheat" unless the consequences are of that from a very up-tight one sided relationship. If anything, James is more or less kissing friends, and to which is pretty much acceptable as long as it's not within bedroom boundaries unless a specific circumstance opened that door for him to be allowed to.
Why do I get the feeling that raid isn't going to go as planned? :P
Anyway, loved the chapter as always, and looking forward to the next. Keep being awesome!
8357706
You sure are fixated on that topic.
8361592
Because when I read a story that wants me to care about a main character then they at least have to make him not a little bitch I mean come on He didn't even last a full chapter before he started crying what kind of adult does that shit in public wasn't even over something that bad.
8362360
Well, there is a good explanation as to why he's not behaving the way you would.
He's not you.
I know it can be difficult to comprehend adult characters being sensitive and vulnerable, but not every man mourns the same way.
8362460
It doesn't matter how different people experience sadness. When you're writing a story having a character cry can be a good way to humanise them or move the storyline along however the situation has to be severe enough to warrant it and getting landed on by a blue tiny horse and getting laughed at by other tiny horses isn't enough in my book.
P.S. I understand everyone is different and this is only my opinion but feedback is always warranted right plus I just like arguing
8377918
I wish I had an answer to that. It wasn't like this for earlier chapters. I'll try experimenting when I can to see if I can get around it.
8362874
So, you think it's not human like to react that way when you find yourself in another world then the one you're in with talking colorful sentient ponies and no other human in sight? That's called being a robot or a person full of apathy, cause if I was in his place I'd surely freak out I ended up somewhere that WASN'T my home, or my room for that matter, and in another world instead.
It's common sense to react differently to this, but if you wanna be all tough and "hurr I'm in a new world, I not scared" then yea that's the stupid way to react if it was a different setting other then Equestria, like another country you wake up to perhaps, but hey good luck on that.
8356810
I also feel the raid will go bad, then a certain human may have to step in and save NMM.
8383199
I feel it too.
When I saw your latest blog about revision, I remembered some things I wanted to inquire about.
First, I noticed, as the story progressed, pony and human anatomy started getting mixed-up. A pony's forelegs and front ankle joints would be referred to as arms and wrists respectively.
Second, in the chapters "They Came from the Pages" and "Homo Pinkius," the way the characters' attires change seems a little off.
How could that H-Buster just.....happen?
How could a simple tablecloth become more than 6 separate pieces of clothing?
To ad to that, how could it revert back to it's original form while some of it was still present on Pinkie (ex: the boots)?
I have no idea if any of these questions have been asked before, but if some of them (if not all) have, then I hope they help.
8385542
1. Well, they do have ankles on those limbs. And while lacking hands, they do double as arms, so I feel the terminology is acceptable
2. Check this out for an idea.. You'll see how the hand retracts to form the mouth of the cannon.
3. If a string of leaves can become a vest, jacket, and bowtie, I'm sure a tablecloth can become an entire ensemble. As for changing back, maybe it was a bit smaller than before. Who knows how that spell works?
pootis
Will Button get a train that doesn't burn?
On a more relevant note, who here can believe that one of the Thomas narrators was one of the most, if not THE most, foul mouthed comedian?
8336651
That took care of Dave. Now what about Paul?
9564841
It was something I didn’t need to know about him. And I don’t know Paul.
Maybe I ask why this chapter of The Lost Element has 4 or 5 spaces between the paragraphs rather than 1 space between them like all the others were before this?
