Just finished reading it actually, more best dragon gal is always welcome haha
Was the last bit Nightmare Moon?
11284662
Who else could it have been?
11284685
Oh, indeed. I hope she eventually tells him someday herself about how she truly feels about him. :)
Love this chapter. Can't wait for more!
(I can't help but notice that for some strange reason, every single comment on this chapter so far (mine will probably be the same by the time you're reading this) has a dislike on it, which is kinda weird. Stuff like that doesn't really happen that often on this site... unless I'm stupid or blind and it does and I never noticed it. Still wanted to mention it, because I don't quite recall seeing it in other chapters, and if this always happens, then that's a bit annoying.)
In which James likes dragons so much he imagines them in his dreams, part 2.
Interesting to revisit the whole "dream to distract yourself from real life" theme from Volume 3, complete with the same theme of random things snapping him out of his bliss and reminding him of how bad things are. Also interesting to visit Spyro's world as well. All the comments about how it looks better than he remembers has me wondering if he got some kind of cross-timeline subconscious knowledge of Spyro Reignited lol
So, if Nightmare Moon's comments are anything to go by, we have a dream entity that's powerful enough to persist between dreams, one that she wonders whether it's possible to make real, like the Tantabus but a purple dragon, or a post-Mortal Chaos Discord but considerably friendlier. Both of those tidbits feel like they'll be important eventually. Too much time was spent on that concept for it to not be foreshadowing for something. Especially since this is actually the second time the theme of a dream becoming real was mentioned, after that Kingdom Hearts dream fight back in Volume 4.

That would be this guy. He’s been my personal internet stalker for at least 3 years now. (That’s just for starters. I have many screenshots compiled of his activities against me) Downvoting comments under my stories and in groups I help moderate is his only means of trying to antagonize me on this site. But as long as he keeps his nose clean on Fimfiction specifically, the moderators won’t touch him. And they can tell that all these dislikes are his. Just a minor nuisance at worst.
Yay, Cynder is back, and I hope she could be with James in the real world. Let's hope Nightmare Moon and Luna will find the way to bring her to the real world.
11284955
Ah. I see.
Excuse me.
Is there no end to people like these!? Everywhere I look, there are people who just love to antagonize others just for the fun of it!)
11284993
If you want to discuss this person further, contact me in private. I’d be happy to share my knowledge about my history with him and provide all the evidence I’ve amassed.
...... Cynder deserves it, she deserves to come to James's side in the waking world. If the Tantabus can make it through to the real world, Cynder should be allowed to as well!! She's good for James, and James is good for her, I wish there was a way for this to be added into this story. You might have it planned, but if not I hope you would consider treating Cynder to her dream.
Everytime you upload a new chapter it always makes my day and so far you have kept my attention through the entire story (meaning no skipped chapters) and i hope you have a great day

If I may ask, what has kept you so reliably hooked all this time?
11284955
Jeeeeeez, That's some twisted dedication...
on another note of dedication, I find myself coming back to this story every time you update. (Cant help it, the way you write scenes and how your characters blend so well with your world draws me back everytime)
11288020
I’d love to hear a more in-depth analysis of what you enjoy from the story, if you have the time to post it.
11288750
Well sure, let's see if I can do so without sounding weird.
Up front, the main character himself. James is a rather unique human character that has a personality I haven't seen in any other fic I've read. (And there are HUNDREDS on this site.) He cares about his fellow friends and those he loves equally, but is also capable of taking things a bit far or being overly passionate when some of the more tense/dangerous events in the story happen. Also the fact that you show him coming to understand how open his heart is alongside how serious he takes these romantic ventures he finds.
The biggest example is how his realization of his connection with the emperor is effecting him. He struggles every chapter with the idea of letting his life fall so the war can end, even going as far as letting Ember make the decision for him if she chose so. It's insane characterization into how much he cares about others and it's played off in a way that isn't boring or dull.
As for the story and it's progression. You manage to progress it both slowly and quickly. Pretty much in a way that keeps readers interested without making it seem like your skipping ahead purely to get to the gritty or meatier sections of the story arc.
And of course, as previously mentioned, the way you characterize the inhabitants of Equestria in this story is what seals the deal for me. Each character feels like they have a stake in this war, each character feels like they are actually there in the flesh and are being changed/ affected by being on the battlefield. Each interaction with James didn't necessarily alter them entirely, merely opened doors they couldn't have done themselves and helped them grow as people, and that's amazing.
All in all, this story feels more and more like I'm there alongside James rather than a simple reader looking for a good HiE fic. Sure, it's not perfect (A couple of dragging scenes here and there, but all stories have their weak spots) and I've found myself questioning James a couple times myself (Like the infamous putting his foot down on Diamond Tiara scene and pressing down scene from Act 1...that made me re read it a couple times) But in the end, the good very much outweighs the bad here.
10/10 brother! Easily one of my top 3 fics on this site
Hmm, hypothetical question… Did we ever consider what James’ reaction would be if he ended up in the Equestria Girls world?
11289980
That won’t be happening because I never even understood the point of EQG.
11284952
The way I see it, the Reignited trilogy is how the classic Spyro series was always supposed to look, but was impossible to realize on the hardware available at the time.
11291929
I hope Toys for Bob does a proper Spyro 4 one day. They've certainly showed they could handle it.
11293769
i like how he isnt all powerful, but cowering at the sight of cartoon ponies who arent even as tall as him? well....
11294344
I suppose you haven’t been around long enough to know what it was like to be a boy during pre-G4 eras of gender dynamics. It’s a combination of awkward aversion for little girl oriented entertainment media only 80s and 90s kids would emphasize with and the unease from being suddenly launched into an unfamiliar alien world. All around uncomfortable.
So this question is going to sound a bit weird and right out of the blue, but it’s a question that’s popped up when a few friends and I were reading The Lost Element.
We sometimes see around several FiMFic forum posts that The Lost Element is trying to live up to “the spirit of the show,” especially with regards to how it was in earlier seasons. We’re wondering: what is your take on this “spirit of the show?” And how do you keep to the spirit of the show while writing for an older audience?
11305000
Being respectful of and maintaining the message and tone of the earlier seasons as well as the characterizations of the cast.
According to most I talk to, I’ve succeeded.
11305060
I mean, I get the characterization bit, but what about the message and tone? For instance, the show is made for kids whereas this story is rated Mature. And I don't recall the show ever making any sort of message about the human condition, even within the context of Equestria Girls or using another race as a metaphor for humans. And that's not even getting to things like the sex scenes. Do you find it hard to stay true to the spirit of the show when you write about more mature matters?
11305246
The spirit of the show from what I can see is maintaining an air of a delicate balance of innocence and maturity, holding onto that inherent positivity even in spite of the darker sides of life that can spring up when least expected. The human condition especially is probably the greatest threat to that balance, but can be tempered by that precious positivity and focus on friendship that Equestria provides. Basically shown through the depiction of Equestria’s way of life and what it stands for.
Stuff like sex is an inevitable part of life and has been confirmed to have happened behind the scenes due to the existence of characters like the Cake twins. Sex born of romance is not inherently the tarnishing of innocence if not a product of degenerate urges.
That rare fusion of innocence and maturity from early on in the series is what I find most beautiful and compelling and I want to convey and preserve it in my writings. Especially since the vast majority of writers in the fandom couldn’t care less about what FiM stands for.
Hi...so I’ve heard some people say that this story is “misanthropic.” I know you’ve been getting that critique a lot even since the early days of the fandom...and even up to now there’s people who still stand by that. How do you respond to this and continue writing? You and your story’s fans don’t seem to think this story is misanthropic, right and I’m curious as to your guys' perspective.
11308460
I just don’t care. Some people will always be sensitive about the topic and I shouldn’t care about offending people with snippets of truth they’d rather not think about. Especially since they hold up better now than they did 11 years ago.
Some people can’t tell that criticism is not misanthropy. And that’s their problem. And it’s really not something I should apologize for.
11308462
Ok. Thanks.
I just realized that James's hairstyle reminds me of Shaggy's, still a nice pic though.

Among all the dream sesions James had, the ones with Cynder have become my favorite.
Wonder if one day she does somehow escape the dream world to be with James.
Look forward to seeing her again.
