So many situations missed and confused, its like theres a subtle veil of confusion soaking the entire area, building up in the susceptible, especially along those linked to sources of darkness and evil?
Man, what would we do without Ember. She's the (girl?)friend we all need.

May I ask what stood out to you in this chapter? You always provide very detailed feedback.

Sure thing.
I can see where James was coming from thinking he could solve this himself. It wasn't a very well thought through plan, but it can be hard to do that when your mind is that clouded by angst. Ember caring so much about talking him out of it was very sweet.
So he's mentioned a couple of times that he's worried his allies are turning against him, now we see that's actually true. But again, Ember to the rescue. I wonder to what extent this'll be a problem. Will he be dodging any assassination attempts in the future?
So, it's official, he loves Ember. The first romance bloomed entirely on the battlefield. I take it he doesn't want to tell her until he's sure a relationship is practical between them in peacetime, considering how committal dragons are. I'm excited to see how that continues to develop as we go through this low point.
James' guilt continues to rack at him, doesn't it? I can't even imagine how someone in his position would feel. He certainly feels that he has a hard burden to bear, but I hope that he remembers that if anyone bears it more than him, it's Princess Celestia.
James may be the one sustaining the Last Emperor, but Celestia is the one who brought James to Equestria in the first place. Even then, how was she to know?
Queen Novo's claims are still as bold as ever. That's a lot of responsibility to place upon her most trustworthy officers. Fortunately, they are willing to provide, especially Seaspray and Sky Beak, and anyone who knows them would suspect no less. Also, James does not sugarcoat the situation. As I said before, even I know that such a worldly connection would be troublesome at least.
I feel sorry for James feeling like such an outsider among his loved ones, friends and acquaintances. I don't entirely blame him for wanting to venture out alone and finish what his presence has started. If you'll forgive me for making yet another Steven Universe reference, he was once in a similar position. In the Season 4 finale, during a tense situation where all of his friends were in danger, Steven felt that the only thing to do was to turn himself in for his mother's actions. While he managed to escape Homeworld and make it back to Earth, his friend, Connie, felt hurt. After all that they had trained for and saying that they would face any oncoming danger together, Steven turned himself in and just gave up. Steven soon understood what she meant, but it wouldn't be until ten episodes into Season 5 when they would talk again and make amends.
What happened between James and Dragon Lord Ember was not that different. Under all of that pressure, James didn't want anyone to get hurt or...worse because of him. While his intentions were good, in the long run, who knows if they would've been foolproof. Ember really was the only one who could change his mind. Her words carry a lot of meaning and almost any action among dragons carries a lot of weight to it. Not only that, but she would force herself to keep going nonmatter what the circumstance and James couldn't bring himself to hurt her in spite of that. Not to mention threatening her subjects with a mortal wound should they go against the others' wishes. Sarcastically speaking, if any of that isn't devotion, I don't know what is.
Once more, everyone learns that taking "the easy way out isn't always the best solution."
That was surly a troubling nightmare for James. It was like the lifeless atmosphere of Mufasa's death in The Lion King mixed with the emotion from the Beast's death in Beauty and the Beast. That section still felt more like the latter to me, especially when James said what he did afterward.
James and Ember's spiritual connection has only grown stronger through these events. Only time will tell how much she will prove herself from here.
Let's move out!...Although 'on' would be a better word.
Is it weird that I got Black Suit Spider-Man vibes from Ember saying that?
