What does one get for the pony who's lost everything?

For Glimmer, it's the chance to revisit her ruination on the six that smashed her sanctum.

Thanks to Flashgen and The Red Parade for reading/reviewing.

UPDATE, 7/1/2020-7/2/2020: Second of my fics in the feature box in one week? I can't thank you all enough.

It's a hard task, but I'm always up for it. Thank you so much for the kind words! :twilightsheepish:

I am definitely putting this in Read Later. Just from looking at the cover... oof, I'll bet she can tap into the dark side of the Force with what she's thinking.

10311628

Well, it does involve trying to rip away what made a beloved hero of the other side special, soooo.... might be right.

This is an interesting in-character character analysis, even if we all know how it turned out in the end. It's rather well written!

Warms my heart aplenty that I managed to hit the mark on so impressive a character in the series. Thank you kindly!

With so little warmth in the palace you’re so often told to call home, why would you not strike a match to its foundation to bring it some?

"The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth" - African proverb.

I felt the feelings of alienation and poisonous self-pity were very powerful.

Lemme know in the fic's comments just what drove you to it.

Saw Best Pony! :derpytongue2:

But, in all seriousness, this was a great read! I really enjoy more character-driven pieces like these, and different takes and insights into a character's personality and psyche are always tons of fun to read!

In this case, the sheer resentment Starlight has for both the world and culture of Equestria alongside the well-crafted self-justification she integrates into said bitterness... It was handled remarkably well! And I can't even begin to understand how you were able to accomplish it in less than 3k words.
Anyway! Congrats on your story getting Featured! Looking forward to what you do next! :pinkiehappy:

Thank you for the kind words.

To go a bit further, I always wondered what the spark was, that little collection of thoughts and processes that turned her from Our Town's creator to Harmony's destroyer. So many intricacies of how villains became who they are are left open for interpretation, even with the comics to help out, and I intend to plumb every whole, whether in little bursts of thought like this or large ventures of clop like Gift of Gab.

Always, there's some deeper story behind the endless amount of psyche these characters have, and I think its a shame so few are pursed, and in such little portions. The series is over, but the mystery is far from. And with every moment of Vis I gain, every spark of imagination I strike up, I can help illuminate that mystery further.

So, yeah, I've got stuff next planned on Indepdanance Day. Might be a bit saucy in terms of the rating that time, but I wanted to see just how far a recurring inner demon can worm into Princess Cadance's mind and body with honey over vinegar.

Hope to see you then.

You found the phrase that started it all. Good job. That... has always resonated powerfully with me, and especially with seeing how Starlight Glimmer's motivations radically changed after being run from the home she built, craven as her methods of making it were. It was clearly fashioned to fill an emptiness with her, and her ousting from it had to spark feelings of revenge within her... to do to the Elements what they did to her.

Thus, this.

Glim Glam's craaaaaaaazy.

10312163

Kinda has to be to look at her city - where she ripped away uniqueness for her own sense of equality - get upset so easily by the Elements and go 'know whose fault this is? THE ELEMENTS."

When you asked me why I faved it, it’s because I liked the story. No particular reason.

Damn. Good and spooky insight to Starlight's mental space (or lack thereof in some ways) post-ousting from Our Town. A good reminder that, though she turned out better in the end, she was one twisted bitter nutcase.

10313192

Which of course, only makes her true turn away from all this all the more dramatic.

Wonderful story even if it makes me want to kick starlight until she gets out of her echo chamber ffs gal

This is an interesting point of view from Starlight after her encounter with Twiligt and her friends, and another motivation to achive her revenge. Excellent plot!

10314440

Thank you! I do try to go deeper into the motivations of villains and heroes alike.s Helps to make a still-mysterious series all the more clearer.

10314422

Aw shucks, you're too kind. :twilightblush:

Even though I'm not a Starlight Glimmer fan, this piece was done very well!

10315763

Heady compliments that it managed to break through, then. Thank you!

This was an awesome story that got a lot of Starlight's psyche onto the page efficiently & effectively.
I think it might be cool for a followup one-shot of this where when Twilight shows Starlight the results of her actions, she doesn't immediately reform or rant about all of her problems.

10316368

I could work that out proper. Might need a catchy name for it though.

Seek help GlimGlam.

Great story!

This whole tale feels like an accurate delve into Starlight’s motives for Our Town, as well as how she sees Equestria as a whole. Even more impressively, it feels like it feels like it could be actual canon!

Thank you kindly for that! I do try to make sure it can work in that way, but... would a deeper dive into other such borderline antagonists work, though? That's the $50K question.
