Being against evil doesn't make you good.

Hello there! Thanks for the entry. I'm looking forward to reading it.

I apologize in advance.

...

Hmm.

Well.

So tell me about what inspired you to write this story :pinkiecrazy:

The contest was to write a horror story, and the most horrifying thing I could think of was a little girl growing up.

Plus, y'know, all the subtext.

I love the story but hate the ending. I really want a sequel. There's so many unanswered questions left and I really want to know what's up with them. Enjoy your uphoofs.

What's the subtext?

Trick Question points at story.

Makuta stares at Trick's hoof.

I have asperger syndrom. That is actually what I would do.

Oh, thank you

What I've learned is that the miracle of birth is disgusting DX

I thought for a moment that she'd escape successfully right towards the end, but nope.

Well done!

I'm not certain what is supposed to be represented here? The whole "turn your maker inside out" thing seems like just a pointless bit of cruelty directed against an alternate self when both could apparently have lived separately with no lasting consequences. Seems lib like an episode of Star Trek where you wonder "why can't they just get along?" because the episode ignores the necessities that drove brutal, murderous destruction throughout history.
Or maybe I just completely missed the point?
The violence was pretty neat anyway, though.

I think there are clear indications in the story that the two entities cannot exist independently, which is relevant both to your question and the allegorical significance of the piece.

Er, to be more forthcoming, consider what happens when the cord is severed while both entities are living.

Given the twist ending, it seemed to me that Other Oats was playing possum. She looked dead, but she had sense and ability enough to obtain the needle and thread and take the opportunity. Given the fate of Other Ginger, it would make sense for Other Oats to rely on subterfuge, especially since Other Oats knows everything about Oats and could predict exactly what Oats would fall for.

Congrats on third place! This is an excellent story, and I really love the idea/premise. Very spooky stuff.

My only little nitpick is that the beginning feels pretty rushed and awkward. It got really good, really fast of course, literally just like... The very start. But it's hard to establish a backstory with the character restraint and stuff, hence it's nit picky.

I'm definitely gonna remember this one for awhile.

There was a 5,000 word limit. I'll be expanding this story at some point.

10213171
Oh that's exciting! I would love to see more about the lore in the story because it's super original. Yeah 5,000 seems like enough on paper but alas, it's really not that many. Word count limits has always been where I struggle the most in writing contests... Which is why I never participate lmao :rainbowwild:. Cheers!

And the moral is... Finish downed monsters off immediately, I guess? :unsuresweetie:

Thanks!

The rushed-ness wasn't avoidable because the story needed to fit into 5,000 words. I might expand it later.

EDIT: apparently I already replied months ago oops :facehoof:

Uh, this was terrifying. Very glad I'm male.

You say that only because TQ doesn't mention the male half of the population. They could have a ritual all their own. After all, where is Wild Oats' father?

I can't help thinking that Duty Grove may be a colony of black widows.

I really hope you don't take this down. That was terrifying!

Wow this was absolutely horrific, yet the symbolism here is so moving.

Okay, so this speaks volumes to me even though I’ve never given birth before. I feel like the horror of being forced to grow up too fast as girls, the misconception of puberty (like the sick thought that once a girl starts her period—some as young as 8—they are automatically women. It’s disgusting.) and the fear of unwanted pregnancy is such a scary thing that we’re just supposed to live with. It’s all on display here and it’s surprising done in such a respectful light. When I saw the tags I feared the worst, but I guess I shouldn’t just judge from that alone.

God, I loved this. Into the Gems folder it goes.
