This story is a sequel to Rarity and the Rhinoceros

Apple thieves: the worst kind of thief.

At least, if you're Applejack.

After discovering that all of the apples in some of her trees have gone missing, Applejack buys a new security system to defend the farm.

A hippopotamus.

Though Twilight isn't quite convinced it's a good idea.

You should do one with Rainbow Dash buying a giant condor or something and it keeps trying to eat her

Dear Princess Celestia,

I can see the Giant Roc perching on your tower from here.
Please tell Luna this won't end well.

Your fellow princess,
Twilight Sparkle

Dear Twilight Sparkle,
Birdzilla is mine.
I purchased him to keep the population of Giant Squid in Canterlot under control.
Luna never has been very practical about pets. I told her writing to the address on the back of her cereal box was a bad idea.

Sincerely,
Princess Celestia
P.S. Come on up to the castle sometime and we'll have breakfast. We have enough scrambled eggs for all of your friends, too.

Funny thing: I rewrote the ending. Originally, it was going to be similar to both of what you said, except it was Rainbow Dash flying with a Manticore.

Well, I wouldn't dare rob an orchard with a security hippo. :twilightoops:

Poor Twilight, her friends are crazy, even the sanest one. :rainbowlaugh:

8491553 Hah, tell me about it. A security hippo? I'd make the flash look like a Model-T!

Oy, next will probably be a story about Pinkie and her Sphinx!

8491613 Yup! Though there will be a decent sized gap between that story and this one (as there was with the Rhino one and this one).

:rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

Leering down at her was a monstrous, yet regal cat-like being made of limestone. Atop it sat Pinkie Pie, who leaped down off of it and landed beside her friend with a large smile. “Hey, Twilight!” she said as her friend continued to scream. “How do you like my Sphinx?”

8491644 Hah. That's awesome. Glad you liked the story!

8491646
It made my day  I hope you'll make another sequel

:twilightangry2:"Pinkie, where did you find her?!"
:pinkiehappy:"Oh, she was in a oasis in the desert, staring sadly at her reflection. Seeing her sad made me sad, I mean, just because she's a huge scary kitty-pegasus-lady that demanded tributes from an entire nation, she doesn't have to be alone, so I asked her if she wanted to come with me."
:twilightoops:"And she just said yes?"
"Well, she kinda tried to stomp me at first, but then I gave her some catnip and she became a lot less grumpy."
:twilightoops:"..."
:pinkiegasp:"Do you know where I can find a 20 km-long yarn ball and a house-sized cardboard box?"

8491668 Oh, I definitely will. But not any time soon. I have a handful of other stories I want to write (one of which involves the Yellowstone Super Volcano).

Was it a hungry hippo?

8491701 Well, it did eat an apple. So, I'd say yes. :moustache:

Sphinx: You do realize we sphinx are sentient right, somnambula story prove that.

Pinkie: QUIET SPHINX.

Huh. You wouldn't think a creature that's mostly blubber would be fast enough to chase the stallion to begin with. :rainbowderp: Oh well, the more you know :twilightblush:

Nice. Sweet Apple Acres needed more protection. I loved the story.

:yay:ing Brilliant and hilarious!

Man applejack is so lucky I want my own house hippo I heard they can be good bodyguards :rainbowkiss:

First, Rarity gets a Rhinoceros.

Then, Applejack gets a Hippo.

Now, Pinkie gets a Spinx.

What's next? Fluttershy gonna get Godzilla?

8495751 I was going to have Rainbow Dash get a manticore, but decided against it. I'm not sure what Fluttershy would get, but Godzilla's a pretty amusing thought.

8495757 8495751
Godzilla would be a good choice. But I'd like to offer Cthulu as an alternative. Though, I'm not sure where she would keep it... Is the lake by town deep?

Wonderfully absurd, both this and its predecessor. Thank you for them.

8526210 Glad you enjoyed them! Hope you enjoy the third one whenever it comes out!

I laughed so hard on reading this, and its predecessor. :rainbowlaugh: Great job on these!

I thought the one about the rhino was kinda eh, but this was hilarious. :D

Apologies for responding late (I've been extremely busy), but I'm so glad you liked this one more. I also appreciate the kind words of your review. Thanks for reading and if I'm to be perfectly honest: I feel the same way about this story compared to the previous one.

The original was written solely because I couldn't find a story on the site about a rhinoceros. As such, I rushed it without much thought. This one was the opposite: I had a clear idea to it and a lot more passion. I had plans to write a third one, but I never got around to it and in hindsight, I'm glad I didn't. I think it'd ruin a lot of what this story was (a more genuine, heartfelt version of the original).
