Vertigo22

Death smiles at us all; all a man can do is smile back.

After crash landing on a mysterious world, Star Chaser must reach the center of the universe. To do so, he will have to go across countless dangerous worlds and meet many alien races.

Based on some of the worlds I've visited in the video game No Man's Sky.

Nice job dude, NMS is turning out to be quite awesome. Just the sheer amount of exploration that can be had

7470094 The very reason I'm doing a story with it! It offers so many creative (and funny) scenarios.

The game I always dreamed of as a kid too.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy future chapters! There's a lot of crazy stuff in store.

7470097 Yeah, I mean, barely two days since launch, and I´m almost at 5mil Units, and got a new ship to boot

You motherfucker.

Your a genius.

I love you.

7470130 Well, thank you for reading (and for the complement)! :pinkiehappy:

I laughed through this entire thing.

i want to read.... but i want to play the game first just a day and a half to go before i can D:

Im suprised someone started a story about this so quickly

You clever girl. At the end it would have been priceless if the ai replied : and you swallow. This is a very well done and humorous story so far. Great job on it!

7470307 Very happy to know!

7470652 The idea for this story came about a few days before the game was released. Though, admittedly, I had to rely on memory for the description of the planet's atmosphere. I'm 90% sure I got the appearance of the sky right!

Nice! I'm loving the game so far. Many weird creatures have been found.

Did you know there's a possibility of getting living pineapples for fauna? That shit was hilarious to see walk around.

7471771 I haven't seen a living pineapple yet, but I have seen some sort of hopping blob-like creature. I'm planning on having that appear later in the story.

If I do, however, find a living pineapple, I'm so going to use that in the story. It'll be glorious!

Well this is a interesting story and it's only 2k words long so far. Nice. Hope it gets better. I'm kind of jealous

7472076 Well, I'm glad you enjoyed the story!

And anything specific that you found to be underwhelming? And don't feel jealous.

7472097 Well I love most of it so... I can't say there's a part off hand. Also, I only said I was jealous because I'm just starting off. That and this is better then what I have done so far:facehoof:

Also, I just notice your story was on the popular main page. Lucky:ajsleepy::twilightsheepish:

7472202 Don't feel down. I know what it's like to be in your position, where you feel jealous of another person's success, or that you wish you were up to there standards (no offense).

But as you said, you're just getting started. My advice to you is to keep reading and keep writing. The story of yours I read was good, even better than my first two stories! If you keep improving, I bet you'll become a terrific writer!

Never give up and don't get jealous. Do the best you can. I've got faith in you.

As a side note, I recommend getting an editor. It never hurts to have another person look over and point out what may or may not work. I attribute a lot of my growth as a writer to mine!

None taken. It's pretty difficult with not being well known.

Really? That's somewhat surprising.

I have an editor(I mention who in the description)

7472268 One good way to get out there is to send your fics to different groups. There's always some people that look around.

7472694 True. That's what I've been doing

Hm... hope this is as good as this one. Although from the looks of it your take is going to be very different.

7473246 Well, I hope you enjoy it!

>Human in cover art.
>No human tag on story.

So... is the human just replaced with a pony or something?

7474683 I used the cover art for the video game itself.

That said, yes. The main character of the game (who lacks a name and appearance as far as I know) is replaced with a pony OC.

looks like some people actually got the bloody thing to launch

So far, No Man's Sky is starting to look like something that would have been good, if it was actually made by a larger company, lead by the same people. It just doesn't even feel like it's out of the planning stage yet. To much repetition even for a procedurally generated world.

7476110
Ironically, the game would not have been made by a larger developer. It's usually indie devs that take the risks and bigger houses that play it safe.

I think it's great

7476966 Very glad you're enjoying it! :pinkiehappy:

Doesn't your ship start with a hyperdrive? Or was that the preorder bonus. I got the blueprint and was like... Um...

7477281 pre-order ship starts with a hyperdrive.

Ok, I'm now convinced that we need a mod that turns your Space Core-esque AI into Eon. Or maybe not, I don't think anyone could play off it as well as Star does, or get such hilarious reactions. :rainbowlaugh:

7477322 I'm incredibly happy you find the banter and dialogue between the two of them as funny as you do. It means a lot to me!

Thank you for reading! There's more to come, and I hope to keep making you laugh!

7477288
Yes, and the pre-order ship is also breaking the game for players, because it bypasses the necessary tutorial. I'm not going to pick the Omega until I'm sure I've got the stuff down.

7477362 That too! Thank you for adding that.

Almost wish I had added that as a joke somewhere. Ah well.

7477365
You can always add it to the next chapter. Sky Chaser finds a coupon for a brand-new free ship?

7477362 It looks like I got lucky. The tutorial kicked in once I warped to another system and I got the hyperdrive blueprint and the antimatter recipe. OMG if you never got the antimatter recipe! >.<

“Nearest volcano was ninety miles away. You really think I'd walk all that way just to wait for a volcano to erupt?”

“Yes.”

“Only if I could bring you with me.”

“No.”

Welp, about died laughing here.

I like the way the story is basically mostly dialogue. Less time worrying about exposition and more time trying to see if words can strangle data.

7478187 To be honest, I was a bit worried readers wouldn't like the focus on dialogue/banter over story/exposition and whatnot.

So, I feel relieved to see at least one person likes it!

Someone should hunt down that disgruntled employee and beat him or her to death.

7479551 What makes you say that?

Three Gek troops ran in and fired wildly at Star.

Gek are apparently the Death Star stormtroopers of NMS...

7480839 Hah. Nah, I doubt the Gek are that accurate. :derpytongue2:

looking forward to star learning his first gek word from a knowledge stone/ ancient plaque, also hope them fighting all the time wont continue on forever, as amusing as it is, it will get old

7481232 I want their relationship to be dysfunction. However, I won't have them argue throughout every chapter. Don't worry.

“My sensors indicate it's called Nunelsestada,” Eon said. It appears that there is fauna here! I can't wait for you to get attacked again.”

Missing quotation marks here.

7484258 I oddly have not visited some of the Gek monoliths. I've met Gek maybe... three times? 4? I'm more fluent in Korvax than I am in Italian, and even then that's a Latin based language that shares similarities with Spanish, so that's saying something about how little I see of the other races...

Well that was a outright lovely piece of work, presumably things will end up back how they before long though. Now I'm wondering how Star's going to react when the Atlas show up. At a guess, they're here to cash in the result of some drunken wager he lost with them ages ago and gets stuck following them even though he thinks he's never met them before.

Considering that's basically what those arses did in my game, it's easy enough to do.
