Twilight-the-Pony

If I had a cent for every headdesk... I'd still be poor.

It's Scootaloo's birthday, and all she wants is to spend most of it with her idol. Instead she got something she never asked for.

At least not out loud.

A short, yet meaningful birthday present for Tad Stone. Thanks to Kev and Babs for the edits.

Lovely story! I'm sure Tad will enjoy it.

I just realized you wrote about a birthday for a birthday...

Now that was nice^^
Thank you guys for writing/editing!

This gets five out of five Scootaloos :scootangel::scootangel::scootangel::scootangel::scootangel:

That was nice story 9/10
And the 1/10 part is opinion...aka twidash
Apart from that I have NO problem with this
So congrats

This story revives 5/5 RDs!

Scootadoption and TwiDash?
:moustache:^:moustache:

The was a really awesome story! =) I particarly liked the ending! :pinkiehappy:

Spike and Scootaloo, brother and sister... I like that :scootangel:

I feel that the Twidash was unnecessarily shoe-horned in, as the story would not have really been any different without it. But everything else makes this the third best Scootadoption fic I've read.

That means Scootaloo has griffin for an aunt.

I feel that the Twidash was unnecessarily shoe-horned in

There's a reason that the story is missing Twilight and Romance tag: That's not its point. The point of it is Scootadopt and nothing more. And I wouldn't be me, if I hadn't leave some food for thought in my writing.

Speaking of which, addition of Twilight is important in here. Whether she's in a romantic relationship with Dash or did what she did solely to help Scootaloo, is on the reader to decide, and I left that part out intentionally. And again, the relationship between Twi and Dash is not (or rather should not be) important for the reader, however, it's important for Scootaloo as it subtly implies a counterbalance to Dash's personality and her often rash decisions.

And it's very interesting how many people jumped on the Dash's relationship with Twilight rather than what happens between Dash and Scoots.
~Twi

6200230 It's more that if Twilight is going to participate, I would have prefered more interaction between her and Scootaloo.

6201310
That is a fair point, actually. Although, to be honest, Twilight is in there just to be acknowledged. Would it be as effective if Dash would've just mentioned her? Likely.

Still, I wanted her to have a brief, but active role in this. Just a personal choice.
~Twi

Scootalove :scootangel:

A very sweet short.

I approve of this story.

I like the scootadopt but i hate the twidash I just don't understand lesbianism.

6205416

I just don't understand lesbianism

I know, right? Getting a PhD in astrophysics and molecular genetics is easier than figuring out that sometimes a person can fall in love with a person of same sex.
~Twi

6211339

Actually I find astrophysics and genetics quite easy. In fact almost all science subjects are easy for me to understand. So you're analogy is kind of flawed in this scenario.

6211351

You.. *AHAHAHAHA* You think that... *AHAHAHAHAHA* *COUGH*
Damn this is good... For some pony who still lives with his dad and and most likely visits highschool or below...
*AHHAHAHAHA*
Damn, I can't keep it. You really think what you learn has anything to do with recent science.
Fuck, dude, you made my day :rainbowlaugh:

6211363

What did you say!?!!? For your information I do still live at home because I'm 16 and I read books on quantum physics. On top of that I draw up blue prints for inventions, excel in math and science, astound all my teachers on a daily basis.

What about you? Did you know that electrons can jump from one energy level to another? Or did you know that copper is created in the outer layers of red super giants when neutrons fuse to iron atoms then turn into protons by releasing an electron? Oh did you know that an antimatter election is called a positron? Now did you mister "I don't know proper grammar." Or was that to advanced for you?

6211419

Ohhh wow, these random trivia at the knowledge level of an average tenth grader really hit me hard. Positron. Such advanced vocabulary. I remember my physics teacher explaining that me in I believe 7th grade quite a few years back :rainbowlaugh:
And Electrons can jump orbitals. Fuck. Finally I know why I can see stuff...

And I thought work would get boring today :rainbowlaugh:

6211419

Did you know that electrons can jump from one energy level to another?

Please tell me that you're trying to impress me and Tad with elementary school-level of physics.

Because you're failing miserably.
~Twi

6211419 two things
One: Jesus dude did you need to blow a gasket on that one comment?
Two:

Actually I find astrophysics and genetics quite easy. In fact almost all science subjects are easy for me to understand. So you're analogy is kind of flawed in this scenario.

So here you are saying astrophysics and genetics are easy to understand for you.

I know, right? Getting a PhD in astrophysics and molecular genetics is easier than figuring out that sometimes a person can fall in love with a person of same sex.
~Twi

Here Twi is saying it would be easier to understand those two subjects than that sometimes someone falls in love with the same sex, so how is this analogy flawed when you just said you easily understand astrophysics and genetics?

6211432

Apparently you live in China, Japan, or some place we're the education isn't shit. Or you're acting cool just so you can on up me. Either way I don't care.

P.S: here is how you determine if a star will become a white dwarf or neutron star:
(hc/G)3\2 1/m2p

6211453

She was referring to the fact that anyone would find it hard were in my case I find it quite the opposite. Further more I put forth a lot of time and effort into math and science and take great pride in it, so excuse me if I am a bit touchy on the subject.

6211458

(hc/G)3\2 1/m2p

a) You cannot leave out the power symbols and expect the formula to stay correct
b) an equation needs two sides to be meaningful, the mass equivalent constant IS important

I have not much more to say...

6211458

P.S: here is how you determine if a star will become a white dwarf or neutron star:
(hc/G)3\2 1/m2p

Oh, look! Pasting equations from Google in another failed attempt to impress someone. Great. Awesome. Since you've failed to do so many times so far, is there anything that that you'd like to actually say? I mean something of value before I go back to designing my backend?

~Twi

6211484

Actually I have two things to say.
First, I read the equation in a book called "Quantum Universe" by Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw.
Second, I don't care anymore, I hate arguing and I'm done. You have no respect for me or my passions.

6211479

This is all I remember of the equation and I believe the other half is 1.4 solar masses, but like I said it's been a while. Any way I'm done with this, I despise arguing beyond a tolerable point.

6211511

First, I read the equation in a book called "Quantum Universe" by Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw.

Aw. That's so adorable. It really makes me all teary. It's really beautiful how they're trying to impress for one last time, and even then they fail miserably. It's like they want me to think that it makes any kind of difference.

You have no respect for me or my passions.

Let's see...

I like the scootadopt but i hate the twidash I just don't understand lesbianism.

This all screams "respect".

Actually I find astrophysics and genetics quite easy. In fact almost all science subjects are easy for me to understand. So you're analogy is kind of flawed in this scenario.

And this. It also screams "bad grammar!"

Not to mention repeated assaults on my and Tad's intelligence.
And you ask for respect. Right.
~Twi

6211538

You know what I'm done be an ignorant bitch for all I care, see were it gets you in life. I'm done.

6211547

be an ignorant bitch for all I care

This really doesn't mean what you think it does.

~Twi

6211626 love the pointless argument that started in this comment section over a trivial comment, real mature people:ajbemused:
I'm talking to you
Twilight-the-pony,

6212370

love the pointless argument that started in this comment section over a trivial comment, real mature people :ajbemused:

It doesn't matter, to be honest... As civil as we tried to be, sometimes there is a need to be blunt, and if one party demands respect where they show none, things are going to conclude, and likely aren't going to conclude in a rational, adult manner.

And since that was the case, I'm not going to cry about it. If he wants to boast with a elementary school-level of science or that he can think that he'll gain respect from either of us by copying a broken equation from a book, then he's barking at the wrong tree.

If that is what makes me an ignorant bitch, then I'll gladly take that insult and move on. I've been in that situation too many times to try to reason with that sort of people.

Life is too short, you know?
~Twi

6212507 ok I got to ask, where the hell do you live that they teach astrophysics and molecular genetics at an elementary school level?

6212669
Nowhere. Although, that was never a part of the initial argument, and neither was a part of the counter-argument at any point in time. The very first "argument" (a reply to Tad) that was proposed was connected only to 7th year physic class (that's still elementary school here).

The rest of it was no mention of elementary school, though. Well, unless you mean my previous reply where I said 2 separate things: Either science knowledge from elementary school OR copying equation from a book.

~Twi

6212749 ok but I still see a problem here unless you are saying this wrong.
7th year physics
Are you saying physics in 7th grade or your 7th year of physics cause either way, what school teaches physics to elementary level students? A physics class was not offered at my old school at least until high school (9-12) and even then you could not take it until you took other required classes so at least 11 is when you could take it.

6213008

Are you saying physics in 7th grade or your 7th year of physics

7th grade.

what school teaches physics to elementary level students?

Most schools in Europe. But we have elementary school 'till the age of 15. Then 3 or 4 years of high school (depends on the type of high school) and then college.

~Twi

6213081 so what you guys just have elementary and high school no middle school in between?

6213008

You know, I had physics from 7th grade on as well. And I actually looked up the current curriculum, and all elements of his "advanced" formula are introduced in that grade. Atom models including orbitals are due the next grade, at least for my state. So yeah. Case closed.

Also, sometimes one just has to poke a little at overbloated egos. I owe myself that much fun now and then.

It's not bad for a short Scootalove story, but I've always thought of the genre as sort of contrived when it's attempted in such a short format. It doesn't explore the background and circumstances enough to really feel like it justifies the relatively out of the blue "hey, you should move in with me" at the punchline. Without a decent buildup of reader investment into the characters and taking the time to paint a picture in which this is plausible, it's hard to buy into.

I also noticed some instances in this particular story where Rainbow Dash's dialogue just doesn't quite sound like her. Examples:

Your wings are still quite weak. If you want to fly, we can't avoid this.

Something like, "Your wings are still pretty weak. If you wanna fly, we gotta do this." rings truer to me.

You usually don't allow me to catch you that easily…

Maybe "You don't usually let me to catch you that easily…"

With that, though, there were also some really good parts.

She felt a light nudge. "Five more minutes, Miss Sugar," she muttered in a flat, groggy voice.

Dash laughed softly. "That's what Twi said."

Made me grin, because I can see that totally being a classic Dash-ism. :rainbowlaugh:

6215378

It's not bad for a short Scootalove story, but I've always thought of the genre as sort of contrived when it's attempted in such a short format.

I think that's more the problem with a short slice-of-life-ish stories in general, since they usually lean on the character and the show itself. There are subtle hints in the story that Dash's actions and reactions had been planned for a while rather than out-of-the-blue "You know what? I think you should move in with me!"

The story is devoid of background details because those are irrelevant; they're not the story's focus.

Without a decent buildup of reader investment into the characters and taking the time to paint a picture in which this is plausible, it's hard to buy into.

That... doesn't make much sense, to be honest. Both of these characters are well-known and have a deeply-established personalities in the show. Scootaloo idolizes Rainbow Dash, and Dash is quite fond of Scootaloo to the level where she became her honorary sister. Half of the buildup already stems from the show canon and does not need to be reiterated here. If you're going into this story without understanding a canon relationship between Scootaloo and Dash, then sure, the investment into the story would be very close to nil. But then again, without initial investment towards both characters, why read the story that only has those character in the character tag?

As far as corrections of Dash's dialog is concerned, I think it's just a matter of semantics. Headcanon versus a headcanon; which version is more proper for the situation, we most likely will never find out.

~Twi

6215426 While I understand why you'd feel there's a lot of license to skip certain things in favor of brevity for a fast pace, which is certainly a point I considered and weighed out, arguing against feedback concerning subjective perceptions about a story's impact and plausibility isn't really helpful. All I can tell you is what I got out of a story, and I think my reading comprehension is at a high enough level that I didn't have any gross factual misconceptions that arguing the facts in question would correct, so those conclusions have some validity. I'm not left feeling here like rationalizations and assumptions that the reader should be able to just buy this based on show canon are enough to take the place of a well-painted picture that succeeds in drawing in the reader and creating personal investment in the characters within this particular story.

Again, like you said, this tends to be a generalized difficulty in the field of very short stories, and I've watched many authors seem to struggle particularly with these kinds of big life-changing event Scootalove pieces, so I'm not casting blame here. I did enjoy it overall.

6216198

I'm not left feeling here like rationalizations and assumptions that the reader should be able to just buy this based on show canon are enough to take the place of a well-painted picture that succeeds in drawing in the reader and creating personal investment in the characters within this particular story.

For a subjective reader, this is quite an objective generalization. Personal opinion versus the reader in general, that's not really compatible. But I digress. I've held that position for far too long, and was one of the major reasons why I left Twilight's Library—I couldn't hold my own opinion, of my own; my personal opinion became the opinion of readers in general and vice versa.

In the end, it was much more important that my own opinion is none other than my own.

*cough* Back to the topic at hoof... If you don't like the "missing" reiteration of the canon interactions between Scootaloo and Dash, I'm not going to rave and rage about it, but I'm not going to add those parts, either. Because it would add nothing of value, since, for me, as well as for the intended reader, the interaction and the relationship from the show is more than enough to evolve to the level in the story.

If you disagree, there's nothing I can do about it. Opinions are opinions.
~Twi

"Run,"

Is there, perchance, an outrageous amount of it involved? Or, do we love the running?

6450327
Exercise is good for cardiovascular system ^^

~Twi

6450398
Both of those are paraphrased from The Doctor's Daughter. Which is an episode of Doctor Who. I tried to find the actual clip, but I couldn't.

6195997 Well the TwiDash made it a 10/10 for me. My favorite ship.

6196911 A perfect story IMO.
