First update in a little over two months. Yes, I actually did a thing.
More to come this month.
8203441 Fantastic chapter as always, Trick! Remember, no need to rush yourself, take as long as you need
I suppose their insane idea about what it is to abuse foals makes perfect sense to them, since they've already made clear their opinion of consent and ultimately consent is the real reason kids are off-limits.
Not entirely sure why they view lack of sex for children actual abuse. But it sure is convenient for them that raping the kids and telling them it's a good thing (Twilight was right to point out the vast power imbalance) makes them unable to resist conversion.
They just turned Luna, huh? Makes me wonder if she had to do the stone thingy.

Wasn't she the one deferring answers to someone else last time they spoke? Kinda feels like they're playing hot potato with Twilight at the moment.
You know, I can't tell if this is just stupid or cult logic. Either
1) Cadence actually believes that ponies are abjectly miserable just because they aren't wildly fucking all the time.
or
2) Cadence is using cult logic in which any unhappiness on your part is your fault for not following the core beliefs and is certainly not caused by the cult causing problems in your life.
Hiiiiii Thorax!
Yeeeeah, that is a good question, how IS she working so fast without her magic? You'd think it'd slow her down a bit.
Oh shit, I thought the pony was Rarity, I let my guard down. Calling it now, it's Celestia already turned and converted.
8203547
Well, there are such things as unhealthy environments due to sexual negativity. We've seen the evils that come from poor sex education- stds, teen pregnancy, body issues, and so on. Beyond that you have active abuse- shaming, jailing, beating, etc. For example, when I was younger I had two strikes against me on the charge of witchcraft (being red headed, and a step child). If it had been found out that I was also sexually active then it's almost certain I would have been beaten to death for it.
I'm sure there's some actual proper spot between killing for witchcraft and kids love rape, but anyone who claims to know what that is is lying. The most recent aoc study I know of was in the 12th century. It's not sufficient to draw any conclusion.
8204301 Well, if nothing else they'll know what they're getting into when they hit puberty so there won't be any unwanted teenage pregnancies and such, silver linings and all that, right?
8204376
yuck. And of course Cadance's promise is worthless because it is not a Pinkie "Swear" it is a Pinkie PROMISE.
Kill em all. DNA alteration means they're functionally different people, their brains would wired differently. There's no reasoning with them
also why did Twilight use her hooves instead of her mouth
8204414
Oops n/m.

This story... Has made me think more then any other fiction story that I can remember. Even if it is fan-fiction it has still made me think about the big questions of how things work and should work. Because what the order brings is a question, actually several but in short it asks: Wouldn't society be better this way? First like Twilight I thought that what the order did was illogical and destructive, it could never work but as time goes a threat has appear. What if the order is logical? Shining and Cadance says that there is and that is what had me reading about ideologies from anarchism to fascism in order to find an answer to if what the order is doing can work and make sense.
And then it is in the way the question is presented. Violence is a more accepted in the west in media and so on but to use sex and such taboo subjects is a excellent and shocking way to make us think about how things truly are and why.
So you could say that it was good that you took so long to update because now I feel that I might have an answer .
So: Can the order of spring work? Short answer: Yes. Slightly longer answer: If everything goes right it can.
Long answer: I might not remember everything of what has been written about the order so do take my answer with a bit of salt...
Why was civilization created? It appears to be because of the ease of living in comparison to a hunter, gatherer society. More people living together, specializing and helping each other has shown to be much better then living as a nomad (otherwise people would not have done it). The question however has always been between prioritizing pleasure now vs later. That is to say take the resources you have now and make the best out of them or work hard to gather more recourses for a even better life later.
The order seems to value pleasure now more then progress. This does not mean forgoing progress it just means that the "pleasures of the flesh" are not a bad thing to embrace. One downside to this is that it can lead to stagnation or just slow progression. Now I could probably wright a paper on this but in short: If the order is to compete it will lose to a more industrious civilization. But then Equestria has some super weapons so that is going to protect them for a time. You can take a bit of socialism in here. Karl Marx knew that a socialist society can not compete against a capitalist society because of the brutal effectiveness of capitalism. So there had to be a workers revolution around the globe to remove the competition. The members of the order are doing the same. They have to usurp the power first because otherwise they would be attacked and defeated. War and death after all is something that the order wants to avoid as it creates suffering.
But I really want to know more about the order. How will the government look like? How will the social structure work? The foreign policy? War/threats to the civilatzation? Economy? Law and order? Administration? Social service? You name it.
As for Celestias society: Repression does not equal progression. It is the need for progression that that drives progression. What society does is creating the need. For example if we have a society that values competition and materialism then we will (if they are smart) see progress mostly in ways of business that creates wealth.
Of course all of this are just my own theories.
Oh and the stain might not be a part of the brain as much as a psychological state of mind or some learned way of thinking.
8204428
I just remembered a very important question. It is the question that can determine if the order of spring is the morally superior idea in this story!
There are three ranks to the order: Lost one, lady and master. These ranks can be determined at a very young age. Ponies can change their mind about things and change mindset.
My question: When a pony/anyone is reaped, is the rank determined set forever and cannot be changed?
Equally important follow up question: Is the rank determined by something in the biology? As in you were born this way and it could be hard or morally bad for you to change it.
8205954
You'll need to wait and see, but that reminds me. I promised to answer a question that I haven't answered yet (to the winning guess of Shining Armor nick). Here it is, below:
8032658
1) This isn't specifically about switching personalities, so no, that is not the case.
2) They believe they're doing something good by spreading the infection and the culture that comes with it. Part of this belief comes from a hidden resistance to the established order (on several fronts) which was present beneath the surface even before the vampony infection, and part of it comes from thinking with gonads. If there are any other reasons, they would give too much away at this point.
3) This is lots of questions! First, the prophecy is the prophecy of the Box of Harmony. They've found five keys, but they're missing Twilight's because Discord never betrayed them in this reality (that was the point of divergence from canon). I can't reveal whether they will open the Box in the story, or what Twilight's key may or may not be, but there will be answers. Second, as far as her friends helping her, pretty much everypony wants to see what's in the Box. Third and finally, whether or not there is eventual compromise would give away too much about the ending. Twilight's current mental state is bouncing between unacceptable alternatives, and "unacceptable" includes any kind of a compromise that seems remotely plausible to her.
4) The answer to this is coming in a few more chapters. It's big enough of a reveal that I have to keep it under wraps (as I said in the rules).
5) That's a good question (the first one). They want Twilight for all the obvious reasons: love, family, friendship, to protect the secrets of the Order, and to assist them in their goals. Twilight, Celestia, Dash, and possibly Spike are the only sticking points that we know of, so the vamponies are heavily focused on reining them in at the moment. The nervousness around Twilight is mainly for the love, family, and friendship aspects. They want her transition to be less traumatic, and they feel guilty for what she's already endured, so they're biding their time until she accepts the inevitable (assuming she does) because they can tell she's close already. As for Celie breaking the fourth, that will be touched upon again much later, but it's
only relevant to the people who read the story being kidnmore a lark than an essential piece of the story.6) It's a part of the forebrain. The forebrain is associated with emotion, reasoning, repression, executive functioning, and movement. It is already clear that breaking a pony doesn't impair executive functioning or movement, so this leaves emotion, reasoning, and repression—all which seem plausible. As for where the stain comes from, that will be revealed soon by Luna. (Well, what Luna claims will be revealed by her.)
You know what? I want to know what happened to Fluttershy's folks. Especially so in regards to her brother. Zephyr Breeze is a neurotic mess who puts on cool moves to distract from his utterly cripping self-esteem issues—it's likely the Order would think of him as somepony who desperately needs their help. Moreso as he's close to Vampony Patient Zero, a.k.a. Fluttershy.
8206280
Kind of bummed the Fourth Wall journal stuff was just warnings about Minotaurs a fun bonus rather than something really critical to the story, but I suppose there's enough shenanigans without that.
8206280
I hope that some found the questions interesting. Two things and a slight rant. I might be jumping the gun on the rant, a little bitter, not all that thought out, and all in all not fair, so take it with a chunk of salt and put on your asbestos undies.
One: You didn't need to answer all of them, just one like you said. I just didn't know which one to ask. two: I'm actually disappointed with some of them. I'll be honest here I don't care about Twilight in this story. I find her to be a very frustrating character to read. Somewhere in the beginning I lost interest with her. I just couldn't sympathize with her any more. Anything I would do or think I'd do she'd do the opposite. So I started to try to read over her shoulder, as it were, and see the world around her. I wanted to see conflicts, the beginnings of conflicts or not everything is as it seems. That was what I wanted for question one actually, why are those characters in charge, of anything. If there's Master, Lady, and Dog (...err) Lost One. They either are in charge; there is more to it than just those three ranks or it is more dynamic and less rigid and the cult doesn't see it or the more boring answer they're not. Pinkie said that they had a disagreement with how to "convert" Twilight. How? Master McSparky Harder would say, "This is how it's going to happen" and the mares and beta males would say yes and be happy about it. (lets have sex!!) Look we haven't seen a female master/mistress. but let's get real here. There is a 50 percent chance that AJ or RD will be a Mistress a 25 percent chance that they both are or both aren't and that isn't all that surprising. I'm tired of Shitty, Cadence, Luna and Rarity the whole story revolves around them doing crap on Twilight. Are the other converted friends doing anything to further or (more interestingly) hinder the cause? NO!! Fluttershy isn't in charge of anything*. What's Pinkie doing, Zecora, Spike? Is Applejack and Rainbow hatching a plan? separately or together.
I'm sorry but, the more I read the less interesting this world becomes and these answers confirm my fears. There's less than appears. It really is, Twilight's friends and family are just looking out for her and not that she could blow them up, if handled wrong. The main conspirators really are doing it for the reasons that they say. For the betterment of pony kind and not for some clandestine or selfish reasons. This world is boring. It's nightmarish sure but ultimately uninteresting. There are sex scenes, shocking scenes, shocking sex scenes and we watch Twilight react. This world was built to make Twilight react. For instance Shining and his Father what purpose was that for other than to make Twilight shut down and me have to trench through another sex scene? Wait, I know, to get Flash Sentry a pet. Surprise! How didn't I see that. ...ugh... I suppose, I thought that this story was creating a world that by using Twilight as a vehicle would explore instead the world really seems to be build only to convert Twilight. That's what I thought was going on with Twilight peeping in through the walls. To see what's really going on or her bouncing around time and space trying to piece together what happened. Instead we are going to get the "big" reveal with Luna and Twilight should be, by all accounts, addled enough that she is unable to counter with any arguments. Oh what am I saying? Somehow Twilight will have just enough energy to make a feeble attempt at an argument but be beaten down by the combined effort of the group to comply and see it their way. It's her manifest destiny!!!
I'm sorry if this wasn't nice or you might take issue with it. a lot of it. I know that a lot is going to be revealed later and might answer the questions more fully and that's why you didn't answer them. But, to me at least, the converting Twilight isn't all that important any more. Nor is the brain thing or the hobbling. But where are they going to go from here? what are the centers of power? Are there any dissenters.?(tried it; didn't like) or is this just one big happy family. Of course that would mean that I could look around that big fat head of Twilight's and see the world, without her witless views and commentary getting in the way. ("eeww", "yuck", "how could they?", "Journal I...")
* I refuse to believe that she's in charge. At first I thought that she'd have a bright future with all that cloak and dagger in the beginning. But the more she's left out, also true with Twilight's other friends, the less important she's become in this story.
8207960
No, it's fine! All critical feedback is good.
Part of the problem here is that this is Twilight's Secret Journal. The whole story is about her experiences and unique, flawed mindset. The experiences of other characters will be documented in different stories once this one is finished.
As the story progresses there will be some developments with her state of mind, but I can't go into details yet.
hrm, what business needs shackles?
8208150
you don't have to answer this. I'm still fuming.
The second question is perhaps the most disappointing and you did bracket it with that there are other reasons but you can't say yet. It is in fact the linchpin of this whole ordeal. Why are they doing it? See I figure they have some skin in the game. And the one that has the most is the one that lost the most. Fluttershy. This story started out with Discord leaving for "breaking canon" never to be seen again. Let's look at your world here. This guy is available where other guys have a routine five to six mares fighting for them, no one wants him. She finds him funny and he likes her a lot. To top it all off He's a powerful magi and lord with his own domain. I'm sure deep in the recesses of her mind she thought she'd got the brass ring. All to be taken away from her "Because he did the right thing." She probably figured that if a mare did it they get off easy. Just look at all the shit Twilight and they got away with. Now she'd have to settle for (let's call a spade a spade) a dirt farmer. He's a nice enough guy and she'd never say that to him or anyone else. But That's gotta hurt. She's doing it for Holy Vengeance for what they did to Discord and all the other guys. It's the only thing I could think of that would make someone do what she did. She'd sacrifice it all to get him back. So, with the help of some powerful and sympathetic individuals, she goes and spear heads the movement. Although she might not be in charge of the movement that still requires leadership and she's so shy. But we've seen her in the show and she's changed. She's a more confident and assertive mare now. So it's not out of the possibility that in this story that is what happened. And that is why she's in the Crystal Empire. She really is in charge and training to be a Master. The Coup 'De Gras is she's grooming Celestia to be a pet. I'm sure she is getting some dark entertainment out of that. Because I am.
But, as you say, they're doing it for selfless reasons....out of the goodness of their hearts...
... its nice...
XD
8208780 If who did what to Discord? Boot him out of the universe for breaking canon? Far as I can tell it seems like a self imposed exile to me. Which is dumb because his leaving actually hurts canon more than it helps. They could have found a work around for the one change instead of letting it spiral out of control.
8208834
But, is that how Fluttershy sees it? She probably sees it as: just one more thing that mares would get away with but not males. He might have felt obligated to do it. Or Celestia told him that he's had to go because he broke one of the conditions of his release, we just don't know. But without that driving force I just can't see this story going as far as it did without the anger from Fluttershy. And we don't know what's going on over in the Crystal Empire.
I mean sure that Rarity, Pinkie and Fluttershy are doing it to right the wrongs inflicted against the stallions. And this is just a dark clop fic but I'm hoping that it's not.
8208683
The same one that needs them in modern times, I'd think. We've actually seen shackles in the show: in Tartarus, and on Tirek initially when he reappeared in Equestria. If there weren't serious crime, there wouldn't be burglar suits (in both FiM and EQG), or guards with spears trained on other ponies (rather than monsters or changelings), or armor used in times of war. Flim and Flam are practically criminal, too.
8208936 So where was Spikes punishment when he helped save the Crystal Empire? Twice.
8208965
Maybe they were lenient with him. After all he is Twilight's assistant. Thats gotta be punishment enough. But seriously He's not the Lord of Chaos on parole. How many books did Discord have to swear on? And one of them had that infamous law. You know the one, on page 320875 paragraph 60. Where they found Celestia after a night of binge drinking, half in an ice-cream coma and in the armory nestling a Howitzer. Where they heard her quite forcefully repeat, "I won't let anyone break cannon! I'll [hic] make a law". But, the scribes misspell it and put "canon" instead. Oh the laughs they all had.
XD
8209144 It's an amusing thought to be sure, but not really one that fits the tone of the story. It's kinda hard to accept the idea that Celestia would punish Discord for violating canon. It would imply she knows how things are supposed to go, which would mean she clearly wants Chrysalis to win. I mean Starlight is still redeemable and all that. Plus just imagine how it would look to the common pony, dude being punished for not being evil, that would seriously bring up some negative press, or at the very least damage the princesses reputation.
8209227
She didn't know the law was still there. Discord is magical and like a genie after he said the magical words he had no choice. He bound himself to the rules and the different strictness for males and females. [edit:] a lot of things would be different if everyone just sat down and talked. but here we are.
[...that would seriously bring up some negative press]
You mean the same press she's been keeping the lid on about the element bearers for all those years? She can't hold back the press for 60 days? I don't know, this Celestia is good at keeping secrets. (and nobody likes Discord)
[...damage the princesses reputation]
It kinda is. That's why there is currently a coup happening. This entire story is the result of Discord leaving and how Fluttershy sees it as. She's the one who ran with it in the beginning. She needed an immediate threat to act. Whether her friends the CMC or Discord. I highly doubt that she'd do what she did for an abstract concept like "For the equal and fair law for both male and female ponies" Sure she'd be all for it and help out. But to join a cult an be the spearhead of the coup? In my mind that requires a lot more drive and dedication to pull off.
8209856 Well that's assuming the law is there in the first place. We don't really get a lot of information outside of the chapter called Discord Leaves, though considering he said he was leaving to fix canon he's kinda doing a shitty job for an all powerful genie.
Discord also didn't mention Celestia once. Heck, word search the chapter, zero results for celestia and the only princess not in the tags is one of my comments. So we have no idea if she was even involved in the process regardless. That's purely headcanon. Heck, I'm sure Fluttershy would have mentioned if it was a royal decree/demand that she knew about, and Discord really isn't the type to hold back if something he can say can cause mischief or strife. Without word from the author on the subject confirming it that's just a guess.
Even if it is Fluttershy just jumping to conclusions it's a pretty big leap to make. I mean Celestia has a lot of authority, don't get me wrong, but she doesn't control Discord in the slightest. Nor does he always have the highest respect for her. Without the elements she can't even threaten him in any meaningful way, so Fluttershy would be jumping not just the gun but the stratosphere.
8209945
It's true this is all speculation. But I really can't see any way the events would have transpired with Discord staying. Nor, why Fluttershy would want to be this involve with the cult. She was one of founding members not some hapless victim.
I think that there is a selfish reason for Fluttershy's actions and it deals with Discord.
8209979 Like what? Creating a world where no one will ever abandon her like that again?
8208951
Honestly, there doesn't seem to be much between "thief/con-man" and "world ending super villain" in the show. Nor structures to deal with them. Trixie went all blackeyed magic on Ponyvil and only got a self imposed apology tour. Rainbow broke winter, flim and flam got exposed and run out of town, etc. afaik, we haven't seen any ponies get into routine legal trouble in the show. Maybe that's why mobs form so easily.
8210001
Nope not enough.
8210023 Not to you perhaps. But perhaps Fluttershy developed abandonment issues, and a society based around ownership and thus responsibility to stay around sounded appealing? Just a thought.
8210030
Then we've got a differing of opinion.
I'm going on: She's got a temper, she's very protective of her friends, and if she thinks that Discord was wronged in any way. The cults appeal is the icing on the cake. But something big made her move and she's NOT sorry. And if it's not Fluttershy then this scenario should've been played out already in spite of Discord leaving. (he would have loved it)
but alas: we're tethered to Twilight.
8210010
Mayhaps, but they do have shackles, dungeons, prisoners, and forced exile in Equestria under Celestia's modern rule (in the show). Not just for supervillains, either. However, the show doesn't focus much on prisoners who 'deserve' punishment, in part because redemption is a major theme.
8210060 Well, believe what you will, the only actual truths are those of the author. Whatever's revealed will be canon for good or for ill.
8210072
"Ooh! Ooh! Do ill! I vote ill!"
"Pinkie Pie..."
8209945
Note there are a limited number of character tags, so I went with the ponies who seemed most influential in the story: Twilight Sparkle (she's kinda relevant, right?), the Crystal Royals, the Mane 6, and Princess Luna.
Luna's probably the least relevant of the character tags but she's recurred several times throughout the story so she was the obvious choice (I knew the general gist of the role she'd be playing and what her motivations were, namely, that oh, you didn't honestly think I was going to put anything revelatory here, did you?)
If the final tag weren't Luna, it'd probably have been Spike or maybe Big Macintosh. Princess Celestia is vital to the story, but she doesn't get any screen time early in the story. In fact, with a single exception of Discord doing something off-screen, the tagged characters, Spike, and Big Macintosh are the first characters to have any role in the story whatsoever. (Well, unless you count the subtle foreshadowing of Apple Bloom giggling at a naughty joke on Day 29.)

8210064
afaik the only time for those things to be applied to a non super-villain was Twilight's freak out about dungeon in the place she's banished to, so it seems like that's not a normal part of the justice system.
8210647
You're forgetting A Bird in the Hoof, some of the warfare from the AU's, and the treatment of changelings having been predated by a system for handling sapient, aggressive creatures. Canterlot has dungeons (as do the Diamond Dogs). And there are crimes and jails referenced.
8210697
bird in the hoof was the same Twilight type freak out if I remember. AU is AU. The rest, maybe. They exist but it's a strange part of the canon. The dungeons seem to be basically empty. Which still makes me wonder why they would need chains in a conference room, when the dungeon system appears to be heavily overbuilt.
8210808 Okay, they are AUs but what does the sonic rainboom have to do with the justice system or the invention of chains?
8211303
Events radically change society, including regime change. It looks like the dungeons are basically unused *under Celestia* and the justice system is extremely lax- at least for repentant or minor offenders.
8210808
Maybe chains are a part of everyday business?
8212320
“I’d like to buy an apple.”
“Whoo-eee. Let me get the chains.”

I’m so pumped for the next update
8223882
Whoa, pardner! With the emotion, I'm worried you might be taking this a bit too serious. This is a story about pastel-colored ponies who can talk and use magic. It is not intended to be an author tract suggesting you should do the horrible things depicted within. (I'm not saying you implied that, I'm just letting you know.)
I'm glad you enjoy the story. Keep in mind that it has a Tragedy tag, however. This implies that, from some perspective, most of Twilight's efforts will have been in vain.
