You want to know the really sad thing?
I advised him to put a warning at the start of chapter two to tell viewers that a scene with dark themes was ahead. This was going off past experiance where I had a fic including an (off-screen) rape scene and didn't add a warning.
My readers were not happy with the sudden punch to their feels.
So MC takes my advice and puts one up. You know what it said?
'Warning, Lesbien rape scene in the italics, skip if you want to avoid it.'
Not 'Dark themes ahead', not even 'Warning: There is a rape scene later on in the chapter', but 'Lesbien rape.'
Emphasis on Lesbien. It's almost like Lyra wouldn't have had such an emotional reaction if a colt (who would be what, eight?) raped her instead of another female.
