The Friendship Games are over. Crystal Prep has failed to trounce CHS, Cinch's manipulation of her best student is out in the open, as is the fact that the principal's actions nearly led to the fabric of the universe being torn apart.

Before Cinch can begin dealing with the aftermath, a certain someone invites her for a visit into a land of magic and friendship.

After dealing with everything from attempted murder, to personal tragedy, to survivor's guilt, Sunset Shimmer and her friends find themselves trying to stay out of the way of a government agent brought to the city because of recent events.

With the portal to Equestria closed, and something very angry lurking in the woods surrounding the city, the seven friends will find themselves dealing with foes old and new, a mystery that could threaten everyone in the city, and an impossible and unacceptable choice.

The most recent Friendship Games have just finished, with Crystal Prep's star academic Twilight Sparkle nearly ending the world. Abacus Cinch doesn't care about that; she merely wants Canterlot High School to forfeit the Games, claiming that the use of magic is cheating. Before anything else can be said, a new arrival appears, and Abacus Cinch gets a rude awakening.

The annual Friendship Games are near, and everyone at Canterlot High is ready to take on their rivals at Crystal Prep. However, Peter Parker has his own issues, as his past resurfaces in the forms of his former principal, Abacus Cinch, and intellectual arch-rival, Twilight Sparkle. To make matters worse, magic seems to be running amok during the competition, and Sunset Shimmer finds herself amidst an existential crisis as she attempts to find her place in the world.

On this night, Twilight Sparkle's life will change forever. And so will Sunset Shimmer's.

Before that can happen, though, both must grapple with what has already occurred that day. As Sunset wrestles with guilt over driving Twilight away -- and losing a critical chance to get back her friends' magic in the process -- Twilight herself struggles over the harm she knows she's caused, and if she can possibly hope to fix it.

Fortunately for Sunset Shimmer, she has a close friend to help her work through it.

Unfortunately for Twilight Sparkle, she has Principal Cinch.

The consequences of each will reverberate through the entire night -- and once it's over, Sunset and Twilight will be left to figure out what comes next.

The second chapter of this story was written for the 2024 Iron Author contest at Everfree Northwest. It has been edited and slightly expanded to better synchronize with the rest of the story.

Twilight was physically abused by Cinch while at Crystal Prep, and she speaks about it for the very first time.

Much has been said about Principal Abacus Cinch. She has been called heartless, cruel, narcissistic. And in many ways, all of that is true. But there is more to Principal Cinch than all of that. Crystal Prep Academy has been her life's work, and she knows it. She knows its walls, its corridors, its history. And she knows her students. Every single one of them. And she remembers exactly what she did to make them all the high performers that they are today.

Above all else, Principal Cinch is known for applying pressure to her students. And to a lot of people, that may seem like a bad thing. But pressure makes diamonds.
