This story is a sequel to Songs of the Spheres

The multiverse is big. When a song is sung that reaches across the entirety of existence, many important notes will be lost within its measures. They sit in the background, being no less true than the melody in the forefront, but overlooked, dismissed.

This is where those stories end up. Some are grand scoping adventures that stand strong, challenging the melody itself, while others are nothing more than little snips of life usually unseen.

"All you have to do is look into the gem, and the test will be over before you know it!”

How far would you go for the right price? And would the end justify the means?

After a botched experiment, Silver Sterling finds herself thrust into a grim new existence in the Equestrian Wastes. Simultaneously robbed of her old life and given a chance to live anew, she must learn to adapt, survive, and thrive to ever have a chance of making it out alive in this harsh new world.

Saved from certain death by a local scavenger, she becomes entangled on a quest to find a long lost musical relic for a reward most ponies would kill for. And to save her own skin. It's a wild, wild wasteland out there.

Based on the original Fallout: Equestria by Kkat. Reading the original is recommended but not required.

The prologue through to the first couple of paragraphs of Chapter Five were written in 2018. I've not written anything since, but this story has been living in my head for almost 10 years now, so it's well past time I get it out of there. Hopefully anyway. We'll see how it goes. In case you couldn't tell I tend to dip in and out. More out than in.

Destabilized by Equestrian magic, Wallflower’s world is dying. For its sake, Sunset had to leave forever. All Wallflower can do is hold on to the last connection they still have: the journal Sunset left behind.

Review

Long-Distance is a wrenching story and more than one of our judges said that, though they won’t ever be able to bring themselves to re-read it, it will stay with us for a long time. Everything is ending, it may or may not be anyone’s fault, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. The time it will take to reach that final tragedy doesn’t make it any less remote. Sunset and Wallflower are separated across worlds, and have only Sunset’s journal to link them. One of them will die and the other will live on. They’re left to learn how to cope with and share and grieve the time they have left.

Long-Distance is superbly written, with just enough detail about the nature of the tragedy to make it feel realized without overwhelming readers with exposition. There’s a novel’s worth of story in this short story, but none of it feels compressed. Sunset and Wallflower’s tightly written, wrenching, and affecting, and the last chapter left us breathless.

--Judges of Scampy's SunFlower Shipping Contest

The result was an emotional tale of making the best out of a bad situation through inevitability and – if you’ll pardon the title drop – long distance. Bicyclette’s work is a delightful story that exemplifies how to Show a hard-hitting story through meaningful dialogue, contextual narrative clues, vivid scene setting, and a firm grasp of the characters and their struggles.

What happened to Tirek on the day the bombs fell? This is a tiny one shot that captures how the end of days affected what was once Equestria's greatest foe, and how he met his fate.

In order to fit the lore of Fallout Equestria, this story assumes that instead of escaping Tartarus to find the elements had new bearers and defeating them, Tirek was successfully subdued by Cerberus and remained within his prison.

Fallout Equestria created by KKat.
