In her dreams, in the magical land of Equestria, Moondancer has a girlfriend. Her name is Sunset Shimmer, and she's smart, talented, confident, and kind.

In her dreams, Moondancer knows what it's like to love, and to be loved.

The worst part about a good dream is waking up.

An entry in the May Pairings 2022 Contest. Loosely inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion, but has no relation to it. (By 'inspired by' I mean 'inspired by the vibes I got while binging it on my phone through the night'.)

(Minor CWs: A brief mention of non-sexual nudity and an allusion to suicidal thoughts. Neither of these elements are present enough to justify full warning tags, at least in my opinion, but they are there and I get anxious about not warning people, just in case.)

All ponies know about Philomena is that she's Celestia's pet phoenix. Oh, and that she loves pranks. However, what they don't know is that she is older than most ponies think and that she swore to protect Celestia and Luna. For the last thousand years, she has kept at her promise and task.

The Era of Discord saw the death of the King and Queen, which sent Celestia and Luna into hiding until they could find a way to defeat the mad chaos being. For now, as they grow up, Philomena has to protect them from the dangers that the chaotic world throws at them, and she will do so proudly. But of course, not all forms of protection are physical.

This, is Philomena's story.

The alicorn dwells on a mare who held her like this before, when she was only a filly, chasing away the nightmares when her parents weren't around. She can still remember her sweet, sad singing- but what was that tune again...?

Shining Armor and Cadance are ready for the coming storm, a little Flurry Heart headed their way. Still, a nice, peaceful day isn't too much to ask for, is it?
