There comes a turning point in every civilization where the future is dictated by the smallest decision.  Be it the will of a king or the cascade of changes by a commoner, it rarely matters the source, only the outcome.  So it was that, shortly after banishing Nightmare Moon, Celestia envisioned a world that could have accepted, loved, and embraced her now lost sister; an Equestria that had to cast off the simplicity of agrarianism and stanch traditionalism.

Instead of relying on the old ways as a bedrock for the six tenets of harmony, Celestia pursued this vision by lauding the advancement of magic and technology.  Over the centuries, cities of marble and stone were replaced by steel and glass. Family farms commercialized, business and trade expanded the world over, and the streets brimmed with cars.  The nobility long since traded away the power backed by titles for influence via companies. Megacorporations now dominate the skylines of every Equestrian city, yet Celestia still holds fast to the reins of true power.  Her word is law.

Even centuries after Nightmare Moon’s banishment, harmony is still in the bedrock of Equestrian society, yet one must dig to find it under so much soil and refuse.   There have always been those that chafe against the law and give lip service to harmony. Be they the rich and powerful figureheads of industry, or the scum of the underworld, there are always things these ponies in power need done discreetly, or at least deniably.  Sensitive matters such as these are often handed over to a class of professional criminals as diverse in their skills as they are in their ideologies. The Shadowrunners.

Note: As with my Beyond Equestria story, I am taking a lot of elements from the Shadowrunner series, but it will be written so that anyone unfamiliar with Shadowrunner can understand what's going on and enjoy the fic.

After befriending the other ponies and dealing with Nightmare Moon, Twilight's finally getting used to life in Ponyville, but there's still one thing she's curious about: why does Rainbow Dash have a rainbow-colored mane? Unable to come up with a logical reason as to why, but figuring the other ponies might know something, she embarks on a journey to learn the origins of Dash's rainbow hair.

Cozy Glow has won.

She has taken over all of Equestria and with her powers she is virtually unstoppable. With the princesses trapped in the sun and moon, Discord put in stone once more, and Twilight and her friends trapped in Tartarus, nopony is there to stop her. Nothing will get in the way of ruling Equestria.

Except bureaucracy.

The Playcolt Magazine company recently hosted a contest in Ponyville. In order to gather publicity, they asked the Elements of Harmony to write for the magazine.

Rainbow Dash finds herself terrified of one of her best friends without cause or reason. What follows is how she deals with the unlikely situation with the help of her friends.
Contains unrepentant Appledash, sex themes and implied and inferred violence. Nothing graphic, but probably worth a gore tag.

Painfully awakening to the sight of his life, Alan McLane stands stranded on an alien world in a body not his own. Now he is burdened with a mission: Protect the magical princess, find his daughter, return to his original form, and get this talking rodent to shut up, a standard quest, if only it had stayed bound to the comfortable confines of a monitor.

Meanwhile, Ella McLane goes all film noir on the unsuspecting hidden world of magecraft, filled to the bubbling brim with well dressed, cynical lawmen, magical ne'er do wells, and a random assortment of inter-dimensional travelers, all put on the hunt for whoever, or whatever, took away her father.

All the while, each are pursued by parties with select interests in them, whether that be forced indoctrination into a cult, or just because pony sounded really good for dinner.
