Celestia hasn't taken one day off since she banished Nightmare Moon all those years ago. Its hard to believe, but when you had to rule a kingdom by yourself for a thousand years, it becomes second nature to never stop working.

But Luna thinks she would benefit from spending the day with her as sisters, the same way they did when they were fillies. It would nice to get out of the castle for a day, letting their manes hang loose. And so Celestia takes her up on the idea.

At the same time, Celestia has been experiencing nightmares about a certain day of her life. It continues to haunt her, but she doesn't know why for sure. Maybe today, she can get past it...

When facing Twilight Sparkle, Nightmare Moon was given a choice: redemption or revenge. What if she had chosen the latter? A grim fate awaits Equestria, but in a time of greater strife and conflict, Discord's return is accelerated. While he expected to bring chaos, he did not anticipate that he would end the Longest Night and bring hope and joy back to the land.

Discord struggles to reconcile his nature with his desire for admiration. While Twilight's friends strive to carve a new life in the ever-shifting Equestria, she searches for Celestia, the only one who can bring harmony back to her lands. But Nightmare Moon also seeks her sister in a desperate attempt to find her place in the world. New dangers lurk in the wild and more threaten to fall over Equestria. In the north, beyond the Crystal Mountains, an unfathomable menace sends even the fiercest Diamond Dog packs fleeing before it. In Canterlot, a capricious Prince lusts for absolute power.

Against it all, Equestria stands toothless. Fearful for his country and thirsty for vengeance against Queen Chrysalis, Shining Armor desperately tries to convince Princess Celestia of the need for an Equestrian Army. Yet even as plans are made to march against the Changelings, the means for his triumph may have been delivered into the hooves of Prince Blueblood, who will risk everything to seize the crown he deems rightfully his.
