So it wasn't until Applejack saw Rarity leaving the wake that she thought something was seriously wrong.

It's been several days since Rainbow Dash and her new friends used the Elements of Harmony to banish Nightmare Moon and return Princess Luna to Equestria. Sure, there were festivals and celebrations aplenty after that, but they've all died down and ponies have gone back to their lives and their jobs. Rainbow, in particular, is working a late night shift with the weather patrol in an effort to arrange early-morning showers.

She's more than a little surprised when she sees Twilight Sparkle headed out into the woods north of town with a telescope on her back and flies down to find out why.

Twilight explains that she's there to admire the job being done by another pony, one who hasn't had the chance to perform it in a very, very long time.

Certain individuals from Our Town had adopted Starlight's philosophy and left to create a larger Equalist Party with nefarious plans for Equestria. So, for much longer than she desires, Starlight must now live as a member of the ruthless Equalist Party at the command of Princess Celestia. It is a long pair of even black roads through the darkness, on which Starlight must walk alone. Now completely spurned, scorned, and hated by Twilight Sparkle and her friends, Starlight must keep up her Equalist persona as she secretly infiltrates and foils the plans of the extreme Left-Wing Totilitarian Equalist Party.

This story takes place during the Season Five finale, "The Cutie Re-Mark". As such, there are spoilers ahead.

Starlight Glimmer's plan is working. All she has to do is upset Rainbow Dash's rainboom-creating race in the past, and Twilight Sparkle's connection with her friends will be severed. And she's done it. Repeatedly. Sure, Twilight can go back in time to try and stop her, but Starlight will always be brought back as well. No matter what Twilight tries, no matter how many times she returns, she can't stop Starlight. They're evenly-matched, and it's much easier to disrupt events than it is to preserve them.

That means Starlight wins, right?

After a recent cluster of calamities cursing her farm, Applejack's livelihood stands on the brink of financial ruin. Desperate, she asks Twilight Sparkle for a loan to keep Sweet Apple Acres running.

But when Twilight's unexpected answer inadvertently causes the two mares to butt heads, the stalemate threatens not only Ponyville's food supply but also their friendship.

With the two obstinate mares sticking to their principles come Tartarus or tidal surges, can Pinkie Pie bridge their ideological gap and save Applejack's farm?

Waking up one autumn morning, Twilight finds that Discord has put together a giant festival with carnival rides, food, and games just outside Ponyville to celebrate the end of Daylight Saving Time.

Something tells her it's going to be a very long day...
