Sweetie Belle and her parents in the same city? Do you even care about complying with canon?

(Note: this is just a joke about how absurdly often she's dumped on Rarity)

No joke, I actually considered tagging this an AU since Canon Cookie doesn't seem to realize she's a mom. This is a more...optimistic view of her behavior.

I'm not so sure it's that shes dumped on Rarity as that she actively seeks to be around Rarity. Sweetie in many ways worships the ground Rarity walks on and takes every opportunity she can to be with or near her. At the same time you should consider that every time we see Rarity without Sweetie Belle or her not with the CMC she's almost certainly with her parents. Rarity is without Sweetie Belle far more than she is with her, it's just that we most often see Sweetie when she's with Rarity, so we're drawn to the idea that that's where she is all the time. Scoots lived with her aunts, but we never saw them until the episode about her parents finally aired, doesn't mean she was living with them, eating with them, and being cared for by them. Things happen off screen and it can be hard to remember that, because not every aspect their life is displayed for us.

Anyways, don't want it to seem like I'm lecturing you, just something to consider.

Cute, slice of life, a nice little show into mom/ daughter life.

Story comment!

This was cute, and quite enjoyable. I think it shows a pretty healthy relationship and realistic one between a daughter and mother. The reason for the argument was within what I expected, after all it's a pretty known issue between mothers and daughters. It does a nice job explaining a lot of Rarity's characteristics from her childhood and upbringing. It's nice to see her think of her friends when shes brooding and who would listen to her. I was a little disappointing Spike didn't make the list since the two of them have one of the closest relationship(platonic or otherwise >_>) and it's made clear that Spike has been there quite a bit when Rarity as needed someone to talk to in the show. I digress though, the little Spike story was kinda cute and a nice touch to her finding a way to relate how she felt to something/someone else. Cookie's guilt is very reminiscent of parenting because I believe we would find most parents wonder if they could have done a better job. It's less about their kids mistakes and more about their own feelings of "what if." Even the reconciliation and a nice real touch to it, of understanding and love. Overall, very nice solid piece.

Yes! More Knights Of Equestria™ headcanon!!! :pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

A very strong story about Rarity. The family dynamics are unique and explored well. I’d suggest adding another tag to reflect that Rarity is not the only character in the story. There’s an “other” tag; unless a tag for Cookie has been added yet.

Well, we do see Sweetie with her parents.

Though the one conspicuous absence is her Cutecenera.

Soo... where's the spanking?

(Rarity's a bit too old for that. If she were about say, twelve years younger, the story would have been written with her brooding in the corner on a sore tushy.)

:moustache: Wow I don't believe it. Rarity proposed to me
:twilightoops: No way
:unsuresweetie: She really did, Something about Royalty and Revenge
:moustache: With Discord and Big Mac out of commission for guys night out I had to do something
:facehoof: No way
:duck: Take that mother!
:unsuresweetie: When am I going to be an aunt?
:rainbowlaugh: Good luck with that
:yay: Discord can always snap his fingers
 I'm pregnant . . How in tarnation!?
:facehoof: So much no
:pinkiegasp: All six of you are like me..........
:rainbowderp:
:twilightangry2: DISCORD

For those who need reminding, this is what Rarity's parents sound like:

"And her big sister to." - change to "too".

So, do ponies in this story interchangeably use both "Tartarus" and "Hell" as swears?

The crazy thing about this story is that, if it were voiced, Tabitha St. Germain would be pulling double duty talking to herself.

Great story!

I have long wondered why they seem to be from Chicago. Even apart from the accent, Rarity's father has a Ditka-stache, and her mother dresses like Peg Bundy. It would have been hilarious if we could have heard Rarity get so upset that her affected Mid-Atlantic accent slips and she goes full-on DAH Behrs.

It would be hard for Tabitha to do a voice that is Rarity slipping into an accent similar to her mother's without actually doing Cookie's voice instead. But she's a professional, so maybe she'd be able to pull it off.

Yeah, sort of like how Fluttershy always sounds like Pinkie Pie whenever she raises her voice. If any of them could pull it off, though, it's Tabitha.

I really enjoyed this story. I like the parent-offspring stories where we get to see our favorite pony heroines dealing with their moms and dads on some personal level. This one tugged at my heartstrings nicely; so great to read the dynamics between Rarity and her mom. Cookie and Hondo never really got any screen time and never got any backstory to their lives. I, too, would've loved to have seen Rarity get so upset that she looses her 'hoity-toity' accent and reverts back to her 'Whinnieaplois' or 'Vanhoover' twangy dialect when talking. Good job! :raritywink:

You know, Ice Star is right. Why isn't there an other tag?

This is really good. Wish we got more with Rarity's parents in general but we all kind of knew that Rarity is very different from her parents, especially her mother for all we know. Either way, I like how this turned out since I can kind of see this happening between the two in some way.

I always thought Mrs. Crumbles/Belle might have originated near Hope Hollow for some reason.

As to Rarity's attitude that class is sacrosanct one might point out another mare in Ponyville who thinks that way...
