It makes sense. Human cultures have such things as arranged marriages to promote stronger bonds between families or nations, and some villages/tribes do have traditions about outsiders having to marry one of their people upon moving in. Typically more primitive peoples but as he is in another world of mythical creatures whom have modern medical equipment, arcade machines, and spears as their baseline technologies who knows what their culture is like. Also it repeatedly stated he knows something is fishy, but he decided it's future hims' problem, which is valid.

Keeps up appearances. Plus, just because you don’t need to eat doesn’t mean you can’t. I know if I suddenly stopped needing food I wouldn’t just give up on sushi and whatnot, taste is half the fun.
