Eyy, I'm writin 'ere!

T

I didn’t start the fire that burned in my father’s heart, nor did I even know what set off the spark. All I knew is that he burned with fury, and scorched all he touched.

Written as a panic fiction in a Quills and Sofas contest. The prompt was 'We Didn't Start the Fire, and it was written in 25 minutes, with 5 minutes to edit, where it placed 2nd! Though, there are very minor revisions. Big thanks to Seer, Red Parade, and Snow Quill for help with the descriptions! Also, huge thanks to Snow again for drawing the amazing cover art!

What did she mean her mother was bittersweet?

Did you have to pay Snow to make the cover art?

Ruby, YOU ARE ONE FLIPPIN' HELL OF A WRITER. HOW DOES THIS NOT HAVE MORE VIEWS ALREADY? THIS DESERVES ALL THE LIKES AND FAVES IN THE WORLD AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

But seriously, Ruby, how do you do it? How do you write such a beautiful piece of art in such a short amount of time? I loved this story. I loved the way you used the burning flames as a central plot device, and how you described the flames burns and grows until it dies out and reduces itself to embers. I loved how you wrote the main character of this story starts her own fire when the flames of her father latch onto his daughter and burn brighter than ever until the two fires burn each other out.

This was a succinct little story that made me utter the following three words: "Beautiful. F**kin' beautiful."

Kudos, Ruby. Good work.

I am putting this on The Shameless Self-Promotion Bureau because my goodness it needs more views.

I would absolutely adore a prequel to this with the events in full. You can't just give me this tease, it's not faaaaaaaair.

In other words, I like it.

Ouch.

A short, crushing little tale of abuse and eventual, if not total, catharsis. It’s an oft-told tale, for the worst of reasons, but you tell it very well.
