I had pretty much considered this. It actually wasn't supposed to be in the story in the first place. Anyways, the reasoning is that we have accounts across the internet irl that mock celebrities and prolific people everywhere, so in Equestria, Princess Luna paying extra for her name wasn't really feasible enough, but people change their gamertags for a fee all the time. Hence the edit.
