Lets Do This

We're going to build an exact copy of Ponyville... right over there! We've got less than a minute!

T

Once all her friends have passed on, Princess Twilight has one final lesson to teach them: what immortality, the afterlife, and having good friends truly means... when everyone lives...

Written prior to the series finale, so no spoilers here, just a fitting tribute to the characters and the series we've come to enjoy so much.

'tis fortunate Spike turned out to be so short-lived, some species of dragons never die of old age, they just fall asleep and let place tectonics cover them over. That would have been a long wait by any standard of measurement.

"Well, simply put, Rarity, this is the universe. The real universe." Twilight gestured with a hoof to the star-filled, mist-like infinity all around them. "Before us lies the cosmos, on the grandest scale we know. (*) And everyone comes here, eventually... poor or rich, good or bad, young and old alike..."

I still would prefer reincarnation to this.
Because this sounds like there is neither good nor bad and everything seems to be stale so nothing new happens more of a prison to entertain alicorns.

Read on a bit...

But here, you have to define your own reality... with the help of those around you. Harmony, friendship, science, curiosity and understanding, all the things we were studying and teaching and sharing back there... they're essential to being able to move on to this form of existence!"

The point is that the afterlife (at least for ponies) isn't payback of some sort, with "good" rewarded and "bad" punished. It's a larger world... one in which friendship and intelligent creativity are essentials, and that's why they're so important to pick up while you're here. Not because you get a reward for being nice , but because you yourself are the reward you're working towards.

So what exactly does

Most of the ponies discorporated, to get busy on things from the more efficient perspective of pure thaumic existence.

mean?

That may be my problem but it sounds like everyone looses their personallity to become some sort of enlightened concept :applejackconfused:

Compiled code is faster than interpreted.
Or put it another way, it's quicker and simpler when your "self" or identity can interact with reality directly, rather than through a physical shell, which you're only carrying around so it can bump into stuff anyways...

Bittersweet, but Good.

I'm gonna make a fic where Twilight passes on with her friends. Don't want her to out live them. Megan Mccarthy promised!

This is actually a rather intriguing spin on life-and-death. Yeah. The thought that, eventually, everybody goes on to an even bigger universe to forge their own paths and make both old friends and new is a really good mix of bittersweet and optimistic.

All in all, great job on the exchanges, characterizations and general wrap-up in all the right places.

A little late for the end of the show but it fits as a good ending for the series if you look at it that way.

Ok this it a little extreme and sad 😞

Agreed! I need to get back on writing my version of that, hehe

A wonderful sendoff to the show we've come to know and love.

Cool, I'll keep an eye out for it.

In the create your own afterlife, what doesn't seem able to really make is a computer.

I’m sad about the end of the show, and death is always a heavy topic to read on here, but I’m glad you wrote this. It gives the sense that the story will still go on, and the ponies we’ve grown to love are still there. :pinkiesad2:

Thanks so much for reading it, and for your thoughts! It's intended both as a story about saying goodbye to the characters we know and love, and also metaphorically about us, as readers and writers of fan-fiction. Because the torch has been passed, and it's up to us now, to recreate the world of FIM and tell new stories with our old friends...

Not just fan fiction hopefully, but all media. I want to hear even more FIM-inspired music, see more art and comics, watch more animations. I even intend to contribute by making video games about it myself. :twilightsheepish:

As an aside, I love the title. It reminded me of an episode from Dr Who.

"Let me have this, just this once... everybody lives!"
-- Christopher Eccleston, "The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances"

Good eye! That is in fact my main inspiration for the title. I was originally going to call it "Everybody Lives", then changed that to "Everypony Lives", and finally "Everyone Lives", which is less species-centric.

Not many are willing to entertain the idea of a nonjudgemental afterlife. I find it interesting that you have.

Thanks! It seemed the most appropriate standpoint to take, given the pony world's emphasis on redemption and friendship over simple punishment.

:raritycry: :fluttercry::applecry::pinkiesad2:That video at the end was so beautiful...I cannot contain the happiness and it is leaking out of my eyes.

You're not alone -- it got me the same way. This story is kind of what I imagined the finale might be like, based on that initial trailer.

Thanks much for reading, and for your thoughts!

Myself, I tend to approach this from the standpoint that, assuming there is an afterlife, it's likely to surprise the heck out of all of us. And rather than being an end or a simple reward for this life, it's likely to turn out to be even larger, and more interesting / challenging...

Wow that was something and pretty sad sometimes being Immortal can be a cursed sometimes and again I can't imagine how I will go through like that and not only that seeing the others and the afterlife is pretty sad and also happy to see them so this was a pretty good story sad one but good keep up the good work

Thanks! This was my way of saying a fond farewell to the series, when the final episode was broadcast. And also a way of showing that friendship will persist, even when relationships change, or even mortality itself. People have often thought that immortality would be a curse, because one outlives one's friends -- but what if it just means the roles are reversed, and the friends Twilight has looked after in life now gang together to look after her, for all eternity? Just a thought...

Yeah I'm just sad to see the show end but I'll never forget about how much the show put an impact on the fandom thanks to Lauren Faust for this show
