"Gold for the merchant, silver for the maid / Copper for the craftsman, cunning in his trade / 'Good', laughed the Baron, sitting in his hall / But iron - cold iron - shall be the master of them all."

This story is a sequel to Firefly: Whole New Verse

They say that Equestria was a paradise, I wanna believe that's true. It’s tough to get by these days with the Confederation cracking down. Still, a mare has to make a livin’ somehow.
– Rainbow Dash, Captain of Tranquility

With two fugitives on board and bills to pay Captain Dash starts looking for work, but it isn't too long before a job finds her. A few thefts and some smuggling are nothing new to the crew, and gemstones don't even take up much room. And with the size of the payout being offered, how could Dash say no? Only, the first gem they were supposed to pick up is missing. Why can't things ever be as easy as they sound?

The targets are six gemstones with strong, unique thaumic presences.

That sounds suspiciously familiar.

Also, Angel Bunny the Mob Boss was hilarious.

Glad to see the sequel of Firefly. I'll wait eagerly for the next chapter along with the one of Dresden Fillies. BTW, love Lyra's role as Miss Universe.

Ri2

So Lyra wants the Elements because a voice in her head tells her to and Angel's a crime boss. Sounds legit.

Welp. The Dresden Fillies was what finally pushed me over the edge into reading the Dresden books. Maybe this'll be what finally pushes me into watching Firefly. :P

I'd recommend Firefly regardless. It's very good for what it is: A good mix of space cowboy with Whedonesque writing. I find it a great palate cleanser when I finish a TV series and need to move onto the next one.

It's definitely in my top ten shows ever, and probably my favorite live-action drama. It's an excellent series, and I highly recommend it. I don't suggest marathoning it, but then I'm disinclined to do that for most series.

I didn't read the first story, well i read the ending. Still I might go back to read it. Now how about Harry Dresden?

WTF, how come I didn't get a sequel update thingy? :trixieshiftright:

Good thing the story approval queue is moving slowly of late, or I might've missed this,

Or we could talk about all of your perfectly sane and rational theories about the Naked Apes.

:rainbowlaugh:

I'm just curious the reactions of those gemstones when in the presence of the crew. Some sort of special connection they(crew) might feel with them (gems).

Interesting, I can't wait to see what bits are pulled from the existing Firefly mythos and then blended into the new ponyverse.

A well-armed badger

Ya just couldn't help yourself, could you? :derpytongue2:

That sounds suspiciously familiar.

I know, right?

Whatever could they possibly be? Fabergé eggs stolen from Bunny perhaps?

"Keep the money. Use it to buy a funeral. It doesn't matter where you go, or how far you fly. I will hunt you down. And the last thing you see will be my blade!"

"Darn"

Waaaaaaggghhh!
:trollestia:

Angel Bunny as Badger?:pinkiegasp:
:trixieshiftleft::trixieshiftright:
:applejackconfused:That makes way too much sense!

Great chapter as usual. I liked Dash and Shy's interaction.

Sheesh. Gilda's giving Jayne a run for his money in the "psychopath" department. :rainbowhuh:

6540933

It wouldn't be nearly as much fun if she didn't. :rainbowwild:

6540933
Here's to Gilda! The psychotic, gun-toting, cat-bird gone wrong thing!

Bravo, that was a great idea with Fluttershy to combine her animals with the brilliant engineering from her Firefly character. I wonder if she has a bear after the falcon incident...

Nice narration, looking forward to a long and complex story.

Dash wanted to call the falcon Baron Awesome, but in this particular case, engineer overrules captain.

Great chapter. I loved the interaction between Pinkie and Rarity, especially the conversation about the meaning of Rarity's mark. Very deep.

Pinkie Tam is wonderfully creepy.

Also, poor Applejack! You just...you really just don't slide down a steel-braid cable. Those things have waaaaay too many sticky-out parts for that. :raritydespair:

Live Rarity's reaction to Gummy! :rainbowlaugh:

“And before you leave, Mr. Bunny wants to remind you that should anything ‘appen to Miss Fluttershy while she’s on your ship, ‘e’ll find you, remove your tongue and wings, and stake you out in the desert for the fire ants.”

Twilight couldn’t get a good look at Cliff without twisting around in a way which he might mistake for an escape attempt. She could at least glance down to see that his fur was reddish-brown, and his back paws were gigantic.

... You did not just... you did, didn't you? :rainbowlaugh:

He did. On pretty much all of them.

I'll be on the lookout for 'Scoob' then, :rainbowkiss:

7182930
I completely missed that. That was brilliant.

:pinkiecrazy:Oh sweet Celestia, she's loose!:pinkiecrazy:

Another very enjoyable chapter. Great job.

Nice work with this crossover. The first fanfic was all right, but it was very predictable. I'm glad you're deviating more from the Firefly plot with the sequel. There are a lot of characters in play here and I can't wait to find out what happens next. I was skeptical about Pinkie as River. I never doubted her intelligence, but I wasn't sure if you could make her creepy and broken while keeping her in character. Thankfully, I my doubts were unfounded. Pinkie is insane and dangerous here, but she's still Pinkie.

I also like your portrayal of the Diamond Dogs as individuals with different personalities and grasp of Equish.

Oh, I love it when they pull this trick, :ajsmug:

Another enjoyable chapter. Good job.:pinkiehappy::derpytongue2::moustache:

More dog name references! Did you catch them all? :ajsmug:

I like Twilight's antibiotics spells. A potion would've been more conventional, but a spell is a unique twist.

Two by two, eyes of blue~! :pinkiecrazy:

Wow, that last section was creepy. Pinkie Pie's abilities can be terrifiying if seen by an outsider, while we just accept that as normal.

Good work on this chapter.

Huh. Come to think of it, playing by cartoon physics in a world that normally doesn't would mark you as an eldritch horror.

Angel Bunny is Badger??? :rainbowlaugh:

Bon-Bot? :rainbowlaugh:

In total, the job will pay twenty thousand royals.
You will receive a bounty of one hundred fifty royals for each gem you successfully obtain, and the balance when you deliver me the full set.

This seems a bit off. It means 5/6 would only be worth about 3% of the total balance.

Clever dogs :pinkiehappy:

If they only started raiding a week ago I'd see two likely scenarios.

1. Someone hired them, quite possibly specifically to get that gem, though they wouldn't have necessarily told the dogs about it.

2. The dogs had some kind of food shortage or sickness meaning they were driven to raid for money to get food/ medicine. In the event of the second scenario I'd think bringing some direct commodities to trade rather than money might have been a good idea\ in case the dogs don't have access to markets where they can buy what they need themselves.
