I think this really needs a tragedy tag.
If I'm correct, this is either about Vinyl being on life support and Octavia pulling the plug, or Octavia offing herself somehow, perhaps in conjunction with Vinyl.
I don't know about anyone else, but I don't see why you'd take someone off life support, especially after mere months.

Because people may have convinced you that the person on life support, if there is no brain activity and is having air mechanically pumped into and out of their lungs, will never be able to function out of the hospital and never wake up.
Personally, if I had to make the decision I don't know what I would do because in my mind it's, yes, like mercy but I still would think I killed them even if it was the best thing you could do for them. But I do believe it's a person's choice whether or not to turn it off or keep it on.

You have no idea how much you've hit the spot though. My girldfriend is a living embodiment of Vinyl Scratch. Same temper, and she IS a DJ as well. And... she does have some heart promblems. She says it runs in her family. It doesn't seem to be as bad as described in the story, but I could help the shiver running down my spine when I've been reading it.

I wouldn't worry about it too much because, honestly, I was basing it off the fact horses rarely have heart problems (at least to my knowledge) and so that's why the doctors didn't know what to do. Doctors now-a-days know a lot more and they always keep testing if they can't figure out how to do something at first.

Nice story, was not a fan of the ending.
It felt kinda cliched and overdone. Props for making me think it was going to be about euthanasia, but un-props for an ultimately unsatisfying end.
Maybe flesh it out a bit more, go into more detail about what is going through Vinyl's head, and the aftermath. Also, that letter may well be the cheesiest thing I have ever read, ever. Congratulations.
Finally, heart transplants don't work that way, and I'm pretty sure you have to be legally dead if you want your heart to be transplanted into someone else.
Overall, 6.5/10, A like, and a hearty nod. You should feel very proud, I just have a few minor quibbles.

I be honest with you, originally I was a little put-off by the low word count. I see I was wrong, however. While short, this is a beautiful story, ending was a tad cliché but that didnèt make it any less wonderful. I must say bravo for writing such piece of art.
Damn...amazing story though I'm writing this with tears. I usually avoid sad and tragedy like the plague (like "Why Pinkie Pie Smiles) because things like this shatter my heart. Even when I do sad there's always a silver lining, here I would have sold my foot to see a happy ending for the both of them. But you did a fantastic job at this story. If you make another OctyScratch...please make it happy

while not exactly about octy/vinyl, the first lines are "you try your best, but it's not quite there". which is, like previous commenters said, exactly what happened in this story.

Yeah, that was basically what happened here.
Although I don't also disdain it. Firstly, the first chapter introduced a potential story quite nicely, setting up the plot and all, a simple one, yes, but with the right execution, can become something greater, so props for that.
But then came along the second chapter, in which by, quite literally, the first line, I already knew what would have been the outcome.
In fact, you could have made this comedy by having Octavia pop out in the end instead, unharmed, casually breaking the now false tension.
In my honest opinion, the first half was a decent set up for a story, a prologue if you will, but then it falls predictable into the second half and doesn't really deliver that sadness that everyone else feels.
But hey, that's just me, everyone can like this story. It truly is a sad situation for anyone to befall to.
(Also, someone already commented on this but, heart transplants don't really work that way *squee*)

I'm sorry, but you lost me with the second chapter.
The first one was really well written and thought provoking, but for me the second stretched my belief a bit too far. Why? Because it's illegal to take the heart from a still living person (or pony in this case) effectively killing them for a transplant.
Sorry but that's my honest opinion.
