Neither am I, the way I see it, Celestia basically raised Spike until Twilight was old enough to care for him. So he's like her son and she's like his 'mother'.

But I know how you feel about having those 2 gether as a couple.
But I guess my reason for me not having a problem with large gaps is do to my thoughts about if the love between the two is forged in true bliss.
