The force. A ubiquitous power of untold potential. Both the Jedi and the Sith look to the power for guidance, believing it to be the ultimate embodiment of all that is in the universe. But what is the true extent of its power? What is its reach, and how many species can it touch?
Spike. A baby dragon raised in Equestria by the personal protégé of the monarch of the sun. He is looked to for friendship and compassion by scores of ponies, as well as providing the bonds of a sibling to one pony in particular, and often the one source of sense in a group of eccentric friends.
Can a dragon from a back water planet truly master the ways of the strongest power in the galaxy?

(This was written in response to a challenge to write a one thousand word HIE)
(It is one thousand words. Fimfiction is getting the count wrong.)

Some might say that the truth needs no colors. Some might say lying is an unfortunate necessity.

How far would you go to protect the ones you care for, when it means hurting the ones you love?

Sketch, an odd artist with a blurred view of the world, struggles to bring that world into focus. All to help an even stranger creature, one that has no place in society, and no hope of anything more. Who said life was fair?

"I dunno man, maybe it's not me. Maybe, it's...the rest of Equestria, ya know?"

Suffering badly from the almost inevitable rejection of his long time crush, Spike chooses to man up and cry in a bar instead of his bedroom. Looking to cheer him up, the squad assemble to help him realize he still has a place in the world; even if that place doesn't include Rarity.
Hopefully Soarin and Discord will be able to bring him around, as well as resolve some of the new tension between him and Applejack (who has had to put up with his insufferable brooding for four nights straight).
And what better a way to do that than over a couple pints of the Apple family's infamous Sweet Apple Cider.

Edit: This is meant just as a random, slightly mushy, humorous, light read. Just something that came to mind and thought I'd write just to see how it goes down. I have added a sentence or two and slightly revised the description, so that you all get a slightly better idea of what to expect. This does include Applespike.

When the benevolent princesses of such a land discover that a large port city has been overthrown by not one, but two former villains, the princesses take matters into their own hands to ensure a prosperous existence for the residents. However, as a political approach towards the situation fails to yield desired results, the royal sisters take it upon themselves to forcibly remove the two reluctant queens from their newly acquired throne. That is, until they discover a certain human who isn't too keen on a hostile take over. Soon enough, the Equestrians will learn why one should never threaten a human or the ones he calls family.

This story is rate T for implied sexual situations, strong language, and gore and blood.
Story takes place in an alternate universe where Nightmare Moon is alive and the changelings have not been reformed.
