I can preread, but I don't do much skype. Prereading is almost always done through google docs, and that has a chat feature...
I mostly work from my tablet, though, which makes that less useful.

In response to the authors note, I wouldn't mind helping out a bit but my schedule fluctuates so scheduling might be a bit hard. But i'd definitely be willing to give it a shot.

Midnight Hands is one of my favorite RA songs. You get my like just for that. Now to finish catching up...After I sleep.
Perhaps I am just confused, or missing something or otherwise just too dense to get it. Why, exactly, is being a bat-pony such a big deal? At first I thought it was a big deal just because she was homeless or otherwise a thief, but I'm getting the distinct sense that this is something a bit more difficult than that. I can sort of see, and even maybe understand a little how gryphon pony relations might be more than a tad awkward, but not at all where this tension over being a bat-pony comes from.
The thing with the reporter confuses me even more. In what way, shape, or form is it all reasonable for a reporter to go digging around in a seventeen year old kids school and home life? Even if they are acting a bit odd or weird or even out of character. How is that supposed to be something newsworthy? I get the feeling that the reporters interest is due to the whole bat-pony thing like it is somehow a much bigger deal than is being let on in the story.
Finally, the last thing about this story which confuses me is just how it is that a griffon immigrant seems to have so much influence that they can talk the principal of a school into turning the other cheek when one of their students has misbehaved. Given how easily the reporter purportedly acquired the files on Sketch, this leads me to conclude that the principal is the corrupt kind who just doesn't give two shits about anything. Happily doing things that are illogical and or otherwise immoral simply because he is getting something out of it.
On a more positive note though. I must admit that I really do like Sketch and Trust they are really adorable together. Not only that, but I can really get behind Sketch's struggle to come to terms with the life he knows he probably should have lead and the direction he is choosing to take his life.
5579385 Sorry if I'm being a bit vague, but if you don't understand, there are no batponies in the world. Trust is the only one. And I have planned this from the beginning, there is a very easy and thorough explanation for this. Why do you think you never saw them in the show until Luna came back into power? ;)
As for Syntax, she lampshades how ridiculous her actions are. Of course she's being dumb and invasive, but as she said she's acting on a hunch, nothing more. She is an expert in dealing with people, and can tell when they're hiding something and has the means and methods to reveal it, whether or not they want to. As for why she's targeting someone so young, it's simply the sixth sense she has in relation to journalism. It's borderline magic, she can tell when something would be incredibly newsworthy, and believe it or not a new species that pretty much looks like a demon living among ponies is a very big deal. A lot of her motivation is revealed next chapter as there's more than a few scenes with her as the POV.
TL;DR There is more at play here than meets the eye. The characters just don't know it yet.
