For years, Twilight Sparkle and Queen Chrysalis have been at each other's throats. Both have experienced victory over the other, and both have experienced defeat. Out of all the creatures in Equestria, none despise each other the way the pony Princess and changeling Queen do. They seemed destined to remain locked in battle forever, or at least until one is finally dead at the hooves of the other. Artists suffer from many things, one of which is a mental block that disrupts and makes them second guess their work. For Octavia, she starts developing such music blocks that causes her to quickly fall into depression and turn to cigarettes and wine to ease her pain. Sometimes though, all it really takes is a friend to hear out ones problems. Thankfully, Octavia is fortunate to have such a friend and when her housemate, Vinyl checks up on her, she happily listens to Octavia's frustrations.

Shining Armor is an eager young officer in the Royal Guard, fresh out of the West Hoof Military Academy. When his mother asks him to help family friend Vinyl Scratch deal with an overenthusiastic admirer, he jumps at the chance to aid a damsel in distress. Perhaps he'd have second thought if he knew just how much of a mess he would be getting himself into...

Chrysalis hedged her bet. She supposed that should she lose, she could still have some fun. Infecting Shining Armor with a poison that would turn him into a changeling was a simple task, but one that would have the poor stallion in a panic as to what his wife would do about it.

Golden Heart's already messy family life just gets more complicated when her ex-husband Arcane Star suddenly and unexpectedly dies. Her ex-husband whose obsession with strange bipedal aliens that may or may not even exist had ruined their marriage. Now forced to face her own guilt, Golden's already strained relationship with her daughter Moon Dancer only worsens as everything begins falling apart at the seams.

Additionally, the more Golden finds out about Arcane Star's death, the more suspicious she becomes of the circumstances surrounding it. Between the huge cover-ups and impossible accounts of what really transpired, Golden Heart is forced to consider the possibility that Arcane Star's life's work wasn't just fantasy after all....
