Because he was never going to let her go.

Nobody ever told Soarin that grief felt so much like fear.

Some leave our lives as quickly as they entered. Some were with us right from the dawning of our existence. Some leave footprints all over our heart, and change us for the better.

But some insinuate themselves into the very centre of our hearts, become our whole life, alter the very nature of our souls, and we are never, ever the same again.

They had been together for so long, the prospect of losing her had never really crossed his mind. He couldn't imagine a world without her, it was simply... unfathomable.

But he knew he couldn't stop it from happening.

And he hated that.

Tracy Maxwell is in a desperate situation: find somewhere to live, or lose the internship he needs to survive. After exhausting every property in the city, one last option appears the day before his deadline. Sure the agent selling the place is a little weird, and more than a little overeager to get the property signed off. At the worst, maybe there's a little mold in the bathroom somewhere, and he has to make do until the lease is up.

But then he steps inside and discovers things can be much worse. The property is in another universe, and while he's there he'll have to play by its rules. He's free to continue working his dream job, so long as he keeps to the contract. Even worse, he's got a roommate who has no intention of leaving him alone.

This story takes place before the episode "Newbie Dash."

Who knew Rainbow Dash would grow up someday, get married to the one she loves, and have children she can proudly call her own. But what happens when a near-death experience shocks everyone? Even Rainbow Dash herself? What about Soarin, her amour? As time flies by, Soarin is also losing hope. What will happen? You'll find out....

Sometimes your passions are at odds with one another. In some cases, they're so at odds with one another that you need to hide behind a different name just to be yourself. Living two lives is hard, and in the case of Photo Finish and Rainbow Dash, it's about to get harder.
