False Door

If you like feeling awful, you've come to the right place.

T

Twilight unveils an enchanted bulletin board in Ponyville just before leaving on a long trip. When she gets back, she discovers that Discord has hijacked the board as a prank and the whole town is now inundated in disinformation and conspiracy theories.

Twilight and Discord work together to reverse the damage but it proves to be a more difficult task than either of them could have ever imagined.

Okay, bud...you're not fooling ME! This whole story was obviously a ruse to make the reader believe these so-called "conspiracy theories" are baseless, and that YOU (and PARDON my derisive laughter) really know the Truth!

ANYONE with half a brain knows that Celestia has been eating foals in Her "secret basement" for CENTURIES! How else do alicorns live so long?! And that whole thing about the Moon? Totally true! But it takes TRUE visionaries LIKE MYSELF to spread the Word! Don't believe this story! It's all FACTS, people!

OPEN YOUR EYES!!

Twilight rolled her eyes. "Fine. There's probably no point, anyway. We already know more magic isn't going to fix it and it's not like a cannibal and Luna's body double are going to help convince them of anything. I wish I had a close friend who was an expert on cults and psychological manipulation."

Starlight: you called?

This was delightful!

Oh great, the cube mooners and bird truthers are here...

Celestia has been eating foals in Her "secret basement" for CENTURIES! How else do alicorns live so long?!

But in all seriousness, now that you mention it, I like this idea for a story. Something like Midsommar, where they have to renew the sun every hundred years with a sacrifice.

Dis storee iz gud, butte it meks mye brane hert... ( points to chest )

11575365
Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure it's not a new idea--I've stumbled across a few vore fics advertising basically that exact premise over the years, and considering that I don't really have the interest to go looking for vore fics and thus came across all of these only on accident...that probably suggests there's even more lurking out there still. :trollestia:

11575428
Yeah, I guess that figures.

And the problem was never solved

11575588
It's the best kind of solution.

this story is pure brainrot and I'm all for it.

Crazy how in a world where they are the forces of good foretold in a prophecy, the literal main characters, the 5 still managed to find a set of beliefs more appealing than their old ones

Twitter in a nutshell.

The girls were never known to be very smart anyway. Twilight was always there to mitigate their stupidity though. Not here. Not soon enough anyway.

This.
11575216
I know right?
11575787
Same.

It is nice to see your work being recognized. If I recall correctly: this is your first (or one of your first) stories to hit the front page.

11576294
Thanks. If I remember correctly, my breakthrough story was actually To Do List. It does feel validating to get one in without that kind of... content. :twilightoops:

11576375
Ah, yes...that one.

"Sombra did nothing wrong!"

WoW, that sounded familiar to something someone else said.

That's such a sneaky cover art, I love it

11576799
Thanks. I was actually sitting on this story for a couple of weeks just because I was at a loss for what to do for a cover.

11576583
Yeah... that one clearly had an inspiration behind it.

Sigh…
You know, when Applejack bled from thinking too hard I thought they were finally starting to recover.
You know, when Discord started to create that "superstitious" book I thought they might finally start to believe something new.
You know, when Discord came back I thought he had an actual solution when Twilight is on the verge of installing cognitive thinking bugs in their friends' brains.
You know, those "friends" that Discord replaced are just as crazy, they just believe the right things for now and likely can't change ideas because they'll see new things as "propaganda".

Great story, reminds me of my frustration when dealing with unreasonable people.

11576375
Wow, you're the one who made that story? I remember that story being featured, but I was too scared to check it out. To me the story that got featured first by you was Coin-op Girl. That's really funny. Sockpuppet also does sexual comedy and gets featured a lot for it. Good that you can also get recognized for this kind of thought-provoking tale as well!

11577621
Heh... You remember that? This must be what it's like when an actor gets their start in porn.

11578141
Well not exactly, porn gets featured when people get the feels with it, and according to my observation only a few authors get good feature with these.
The reason your story left an impression on me when it sat on the top of the feature box is because of the abundance of the red tags. Mind control is one thing, but yours is a whole another deal, and I was wondering why are people eating it up since it looked pretty darn cruel at first sight. It's like This one, and I remembered this one pretty well, too.
Also “an actor gets their start in porn”? I don't think so, mister. I didn't read To-do List, because I am still too scared, but I checked the comments and people obviously care about the emotional tale and the way you're telling it than the porn itself. The porn is just a bait here, because the story is really what made them stay, like me!
Keep up the good work, and good luck writing your own new story!

This story is criminally underrated, almost as criminal as Celestia's foul consumption of foals. The satire is so biting it hurts, at times a little too much unless you look at it as a kafkeske tale that puts forth cruel humor above everything else. While it did require everyone to be written OOC (except for Twilight and Discord) and you could argue that this story could have been told outside of MLP, it was still a great treat that kept me engaged and craving to know how it would end. The final solution is not only really clever, but it also leads to a perfect punchline that really adds a bit of nuance to a story that is all around rather heavy-handed.
I also have to commend your style, there are no stumbles or moments that felt tedious, even Twilight's intellectual ramblings are wonderfully written. Also, the arguments and lines of conspirational reasoning are so believable and well put together that they both sell the story as well as the humor.
Overall, this was a really enjoyable piece I wish had received more attention.

Thanks. It was able to limp into the featured stories for a little bit at least. Honestly though it did a lot better than I thought it would. It was hard to gauge because I've never written anything quite like this. For the ending, 'reverse conspiracy theory' is something that hurts my head when I try to think about it. I'm surprised no one's mentioned how Pinkie just offhandedly confirmed that the alt Cakes have a torture dungeon.

that was hilarious in such a tragic sense XD

this is depressing, but i think moreso in how it's true than because of what actually happens.

It is a strange fine line between comedy and tragedy in this story.

That was some serious composure on Twilight's part. Were I in Twilight's place, I'd have beaten the ever-loving crap out of all of them until their brains rebooted, or they died.

Discord made her keep it T rated.

Hello! Have a review. Apologies for the delayed courtesy note: blame partly Covid and partly me. This story got me interested from the start, with a well judged satire on the more worrying side of social media. Maybe slightly too blunt for its own good later on, but still well worth a like.

I support the motion with all violence.
