Story commissioned by Tailsic

A downtrodden and isolated Princess Twilight grudgingly celebrates her 1000th birthday without friends. Ok I'm intrigued by this, I think a little more context would go a long way to explaining how Twilight became so despondent and unhappy with her life, also why is Celestia's immediate response to yell at her like she's still a filly?

It's really just time. Time has worn her down and being separated from the rest of the mane 6. Things are different for a made alicorn and her thousandth birthday is serving as a sort of midlife crises, (for lack of a better term.) Her and Celestia have been going at it for some time about her delinquency but it's all boiling over right now at this pivotal moment.

I also thought the dialogue between Twilight and Celestia was off considering their relationship has spanned 1,000 years. Twilight should have been stripped of her duties if this has been her attitude for the last 100-200 years. A little odd there were no other alicorns in that time as well. It may have made more sense if you reduced the timeline some. Maybe if it were her 100th birthday. I’d think by 1,000 she’d either have found a way to cope or have set up a successor and found a way to pass on.

But all that aside, the basic premise that Twilight would become despondent from missing her friends is easy to relate to and I love the atmosphere you’ve set up. I assumed at first that Twilight was hallucinating her friends being there, kind of like Nightwing’s fever dream scene from Young Justice. Actually I liked that take, but the mirror suggesting it’s an alternate reality allows you to carry the plot forward with it. I think it’s fun that we’ve been following behind an unrecognizable Twilight, and the mirror shows us the more familiar one (instead of the other way around). Looking forward to seeing where you are going with this.

A promising Description.

now this is interesting

but if the rest of the mane 6 become immortal alicorns, won't they outlive their friends and families?

Eeyup... But at least they got eachother... and their descendants that come and go.

The depth to this is amazing.

I'm actually finding a lot more components under the story's surface while writing it than what I thought was there when it was initially pitched to me.

11784930
Is that also why she can’t just go out and make more friends?

11789523
She stopped making new friends about the time the last of the Mane 6 died, becoming cynical and distant. Over time she kind of lost her social graces and confidence as a friend maker.

Im sincerely hoping the elements teach twilight their virtues so she can better rule her own equestria. However i do wonder if she will even want to go back after the full week.

I feel like six twi and sad twi might conflict with one another when it's time to switch back

Omega level story omg

I think it was either Celestia or discord who gave her that mirror. Because the twilights in themselves act two different. And I'm pretty sure her friends have caught on. And the motivated Twilight sparkle would have had this all wrapped up in the episode. But you gave her a whole entire week. She should be supreme ruler of the planet by that time.

It's a mystery that will be left up in the air but of course I have my own theories. Luna would be a good twist.

I like the premise so far, however I didn't understood the bit with Twilight and her friends at her birthday. Was she imagining it?

11805202
No. You'll see soon enough.

Liked the story up til this. Seems a bit...extreme?...to say that Twilight 2 helped improve the relationship with the princesses, only for Luna to immediately jump to "Twilight is just crazy" when Twilight 2 says she's a victim of something 100% possible in universe and even shown in canon (ex. the magic mirror in EQG). I mean, didn't the EQG mirror also seem normal up until certain conditions? Why immediately jump to "she's clearly lying and crazy" when Twilight 2 had shown better behavior right before this (with the whole trying to finally stabilize the county thing)?

11805369
I still haven't seen any EQG but perhaps the mirror was Luna's scheme the entire time to either end the turmoil and/or take advantage of the situation and she's quick to dismiss the mirror and paint her as insane and unable to rule because she knows her sister won't take back the throne and she'd get to rule alone for the first time. Maybe Celestia actually does believe her story but she's not going to want to help her out because she's much better than the other Twilight and would rather have her stuck there ruling their Equestria instead.

I hope the other dimension Twilight told all of Equestria what Celestia did to her so no pony ever trusts her again. That's so vile and unforgivable...nobody should ever trust this white alicorn tyrant ever again. Sorry but that's not a thing you do for "the good of Equestria".

Also the other Twilight (the one without friends.) I can "understand" why she did it but also not. It was pure desperation and I can't imagine how it would feel to live a thousand years without your friends and then seeing them for a week just to loose them again. It's kind of understandable why she did it even if it is still totally wrong.)

It was a good read even if I didn't like the ending at all. I just could never enjoy sad endings but apart from that up to the point where the mirror is broken it was a solid read.

Even as the person who wrote the story and was made entirely aware of where it would go from the outset, I still somehow hoped that it maybe wouldn't.

Now I'm wondering if the depressed Twilight isn't going to want to switch back.

Most obvious betrayal goes to Twilight sparkle. I don't know why she did not see it coming. Why she made the assumption a Twilight who has failed in the aspects she did would not come from a very different environment than her being honest. As soon as the mirror thing was brought up I said she was not going to go back. But I did like how you put in that red herring. Where is C panther thought of going back it almost got me.

11809475
Happy Twilight should have slept on it. She was too eager to help out. Always assume the other you is evil.

I finally got around to finishing this and I must say... I expected this. I knew in the back of my mind that Twilight wouldn't want to go back to a world where her friends were dead and honestly Celestia should have known that preventing the other Twilight from going back would back fire.

11836469
A kind of inevitability almost akin to that of a Final Destination movie.

11836811
I still think that Twilight should have attacked Celestia in her rage. She had it coming. Destroying tomes that can't be replaced to prevent the two Twilights from going back to their rightful places? Evil in its own right.
