They've got kind of a friends-with-benefits thing going on with that mongoose. Discord still has to be reminded, every time they invite the little guy over, that Fluttershy is okay with having an open relationship and that he doesn't have to try extra hard to be devoted to her. It's like the one thing where he actually struggles a bit with being chaotic; all the other shenanigans, he knows exactly how to do that stuff safely, but he has no idea what he's doing around emotions, so he tries to play it safe.

The running joke is that someone had to finally match what happened with the Baleton Tea Party (arguably one of the most effective acts of civil disobedience when a ship containing Celestia's 3-month supply of tea got hijacked and tossed in the ocean over a rise in the sugar tax).
