I really like this! I half expected it to be romantic, as most OC do, but you kept it platonic! Cookie for you~

3999626 Thank you! I've considered making it a touch more romantic if I ever do a sequel, but I am not a big fan of canon/OC romances either.

I really liked it. I'm not gonna push you for a sequel, but I'll read it if you do.

3999943 Thank you very much. I appreciate both the liking, and the not pushing.

I have no such reservations. SEQUEl!

4000333 Ha ha ha. Maybe someday. I make no promises.

Man, why'd this have to be complete? I nice good slow piece and (I never thought I'd say this) refreshingly disaster free. Some down time is needed every once in a while. Let me know if you ever decide to continue the story.

Sombra likes crystals almost as much as he likes stairs.

4000916 Thank you! I shall try to do so.

With a bit of expansion (obviously beyond what was allowable for the contest), this could be a pretty fantastic story, I think. It's still good as-is. Just watch out for the need to explain things to the reader, I noticed a lot of that toward the beginning especially.

4051378 Eee! Yay! Thank you! :pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

You're very welcome

Sequel/follow-up story?

4065629 Probably! I have some ideas and I've done a little writing, but this one's going slow.

Wow, this was really nice. I found it a little odd Twilight didn't react to Sombra "rediscovering himself" in the middle of Ponyville. Still, a delightful yarn that could stand by itself or lead to more adventures.

4066814 I should probably have described her as having her nose in a book. She'd fail to notice a dragon invasion if she was reading at the time. And thanks! Glad you liked it.

I love Chrymbra.....make it happen. :twilightsheepish: Please?:pinkiesad2:

4115245 That's kinda random. :applejackunsure:

4115248 Sombra fic=my automatic asking. I love the the romance genre in stories. :pinkiecrazy: Except for movies. Chick-flicks aren't my thing. :applejackunsure:

4115259 Well, I'm afraid the only way I write to order is if I'm getting paid, so nope, not gonna happen.

4115280 I charge 1 cent a word. So a story about this length would cost $30. That's just for a rough draft with basic editing though, getting editors and doing a polished final version is extra.

4115298 I actually have that much....:derpyderp2: I'm a kid without a job so...I don't send mail that much. :twilightsheepish: I don't even know how.

4115333 Well, I generally recommend saving, if you're a kid without a job. If you did want to actually commission a story, you can PM me about it, though. I'll be leaving town in half an hour, so I may take a while to reply if you do.

Short and sweet, nicely done.

4193975 Thank you. :pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

I'm rather disappointed that there isn't going to be more to this.

4215363 I have a few vague ideas for a possible sequel, but I have a lot of writing ideas, so I don't know if it'll ever happen.

The only problem I have is that the opening description implies a much more primitive mill than I would expect for Equestria. I'd think that they would be well past the "undershot wheel directly in a stream" stage.

4215775 I'm not sure what leads you to say that, given the technology in the pony universe is incredibly varied, and doesn't seem to have much to do with how technology developed in our world. I mean... they have phonographs, but they don't seem to have electric lights or even gas lights, they use fireflies. Ponies pull trains. There's really high quality film, but no television, there's wood burning stoves... it's all over the map. I see no reason why their mill technology has to be at any specific level.

Congrats on the EQD Feature.

4216201 Thank you. Although it seems like the days of EqD bringing in tons and tons of new views are gone.

4216223
Yeah. But bragging rights are still there... somewhat.

4216002
I'm not talking about expecting anything modern. I'm talking about simple dams[1] and basic flow control combined with, probably, an overshot wheel. This is medieval technology, well within what we see on the show.

Heck, an overshot wheel just on is own would probably be enough to deal with the "destroyed by spring flood" problem: The flume can only take so much water before it simply spills back into the stream. At worst, it's the easy to fix/replace flume that gets wrecked.

[1] And given the kind of dam we have seen on the show, a little one across a mountain stream to create a mill pond would not be that big of a deal.

4216356 Sure more complicated things were invented early on on Earth, but the "undershot wheel directly in a stream" was still being used long after, even up until quite recently. It all depends on the stream, your budget, how much you want to disturb the environment, what you're using it for, etc.

I still feel it's quite silly to claim that some particular piece of technology doesn't belong in Equestria based on its use here on Earth. But even if we are basing it on use here on earth, it's still possible for such a water wheel to be contemporary with plenty of the technology we've seen in the show.

4216418
Yes it continued to be used: When either nothing else would work, (i.e. the terrain is mostly flat or you are integrating the wheel into something like a bridge), or when only a minimal amount of power was required, (i.e. not a sawmill).

It doesn't belong because it's a bad choice.

HA! I read before EqD. I love this person's stories anyways, and I am curently reading the spark to light the candle. I hope I like it. (Who am I kidding, I will like it .)

4217152 I really can't believe we're still talking about this. :facehoof: Fireflies in jars are also a very bad choice for lighting when one clearly has electricity. Do you thing the show is wrong for using those too?

4217947
It depends on how their electricity works, (e.g. if it's all DC powered by magic crystals then using other sources for light makes sense), and how widely deployed distribution is.

I really liked it! More than like actually I loved it! Great work! And if u do make another part to this story I can't wait to read it! ^-^

That ending was a little sudden. I had to go back and check I hadn't missed anything.

Still, good story! You got my upvote.

4252545 That's what happens when you write inside a 3k word cap for a contest.

He remembered everything, right?

4459496
Was "Sombra" just a nickname, or he lied to her?

4459520 Neither. He got a new cutie mark. He's literally a new pony now. He decided to leave "Sombra" behind and become somepony else.
