SPark

Not checking in here. I may post stories because my patrons are nice and like ponies. Otherwise out of the fandom, sorry peeps.

When Twilight and her friends used the Elements of Harmony on Nightmare Moon, she expected them to purify her or put her back on the moon.  Instead they killed her. Haunted by the fact she took a life, Twilight goes to Princess Celestia to find out if she knew the Elements would kill her sister. And if she did… why did she let Twilight do it?

A commission for Rated Ponystar

After reading the description of the story, I'm not the least bit surprised that it ends with " A commission for Rated Ponystar " :ajsmug:

You know me so well :)

So Celesta killed her favourite student. Such things are needed to rule as long as Celesta has ruled.

Bland, predictable Tyrantlestia cliche. Fitting that this came out on the 7th year anniversary of the show, this story is like a time-capsule to the slew of dated S1 fics that I coulda sworn we've already gotten tired of.

8479921 Yeah, and this is why Celestia isn't one of my fave characters on the show.
Honestly, if you looked up the word "useless" in the dictionary, you'd find a picture of her beside it.
These kind of stories?
They make me hate her worse than I do Agent Bishop from the 2003 TMNT series.
And that's saying something, coming from me, trust me.

Makes me wonder what this onels gonna do when Discord breaks free, as she just murdered the one pony who holds the Element Bearers together.

Have fun being Dissy's favorite clown, Celly, dear.

Why am I not surprised. This is reminiscent of any evil!Dumbledore or Tyrantlestia fic. Still, good story. I liked it.

Alas, Honesty is still needed for Harmony.

It’s really a bittersweet ending. Bitter because of what happened. Sweet because of what we know will happen now that the Elements of Harmony are broken again: All Celestia has done here is buy a little more time.

Discord rules

8480569
Buy a little more time to what exactly again? I know she basically screwed herself and possibly the planet over but what are you referring to?

8480704
Essentially, a little more time before things really go down the drain when Discord frees himself.

He wouldn’t even have to do anything: Just let Shining Armor in on the truth of what happened to Twilight and kick back with popcorn.

I would argue that the one critical flaw with stories like these is that they require Celestia to be shortsighted and focused on how to maintain order in the next moment, rather than looking further ahead.

8480748
I see. It's even worse when you consider an invasion from Chrysalis coming soon and no one to notice Cadance isn't acting like herself if that ever actually gets to happen now, then there's Tirek who'll steal magic from everyone on the planet since the elements can't stop him now that Twilight's dead, plunderseeds will kill the Tree of Harmony unless someone returns the magic one to the tree, oh then there's the fact that Twilight's cutie mark was on the freakin tree and was foreshadowed 1000 years ago. That's not even going into Sombra's return and his plans to free the Umbrum and this time no one to have him realize he's as much a victim of all that crap as the Crystal ponies were what with being manipulated into becoming a tyrant. Nor the fact that Starlight won't be reformed and may very well try equalizing all of Equestria and pretty much doom the planet due to how flawed her methods are especially if she gets to Celestia and takes away her ability to control the sun in her stupidity assuming Tirek didn't beat her to it.

Yes that and the fact harmony will find another species to adopt.

8480813
Twilight said it best: Real harmony isn't built on lies.

This story presents even a very interesting line of thought: That maybe, in this universe, Celestia has been ruling for too long and has made herself too distant from her subjects. Yes, she does mourn for Twilight, but her attitude is still very much one of, "What's one more corpse on the pile at this point?"

It's not really a Tyrantlestia fic, but more of a "What If...?"

"What if Princess Celestia placed more value on Harmony than on the things that create it?"

8481199
Indeed, and the answer is this too much order becoming corrupt. Balance shattered and harmony is dying.

8481199
Yeah. The thing about this story is that it works best as an exploration, not as a conclusion. I think a lot of the people who dislike it are doing so because they assume that it's concluding Celestia is right. Celestia concludes she's right. That's doesn't mean she is!

Well, or Celestia is their waifu and they just don't like authors being "mean" to her. :trollestia:

8481462
Why would anyone want to be mean to somebody else's waffle? Poor thing probably didn't do anything to deserve it, and is also delicious!

Being mean to waffles, that just isn't right.

Really, really enjoyed this one. That was a chilling death.

8481462
The story doesn't feel like it came to an actual conclusion. Most people don't like stories like that. It's made even worse in this case because everyone who reads it knows about other events that are meant to take place. This story just leaves a burning hate for that world's Celestia for me and nothing else memorable. If the story can only bring up that sort of response from me then yeah I'm gonna mark it for a dislike. I actually like a bunch of your other stories and I think I have some fav'd and others in my read it later but this story just feels shallow.

8508006
Please do recall that this is a commission. In cases like this I write what I am paid to write.

8508474
I understand that. As I finished reading and looked at the comments I saw what you said about people down voting and decided to say why I did so and what my view of it is as someone from that end of the spectrum. There's more to it but that was the basics of it.

8508567
Ah, I see. I know some people dislike it for more honest reasons, but seriously... if you want to get tons of downvotes, write bad things about Celestia, you will get them, guaranteed.

A pity this is a one-off commission - a follow-up on all the horrors that are going to befall Equestria with the Elements once more off the table, and how Celestia deals with (or can't deal with) them could be fascinating. As someone in the notes laid out, there are so many things coming soon - and Celestia DOES know about at least some of them (Discord, Sombra, she would at least know Tirek MIGHT escape Tartarus some day).

What plans is she making for dealing with the threats she knows about? Just how many more ponies is she gladly going to throw under the bus to preserve Equestria? What contingencies come into play when the unexpected (eg Chrysalis) threatens Equestria? And what is Harmony scheming in the background to deal with what has to be its worst-case scenario? Its realm is firmly in the grip of a pony who absolutely believes Harmony is necessary for Equestria, is convinced that it can only do so if she continues to hold absolute power, and willingly violates any and every precept of Harmony to maintain that power.

8549621
Being a bit absurd in my response here, but it seems likely:
She'll kill them all, of course! Murder's been proven to work as her number one go-to solution for every situation for her thus far, so why would it not?

Also: Damn, that is a cold-hearted amoral bitch of a Celestia. Words can't really describe the hate and disgust I feel for her. Logically I was at least following along and could sympathize, right up to that last bit of their conversation. Then she jumped the shark and hit the Godzilla Threshold at the same time.

8579230
That very last bit in your comment might be the most tragic part of all of this: Celestia's actions in this story are completely rational. You can follow her from A to B to C, and it all makes sense.

The premises her actions are based upon may not be correct, and her actions are certainly not principled (although she doesn't frame them as righteous, either), but they are absolutely rational.

And now for a bit of fridge horror dovetailing off of what 8480813 noted way back when, we ourselves are making a lot of assumptions about the Equestria this story takes place in. Namely, we assume that there is calamity lined up for Equestria in the future because we assume that Celestia has not already dealt with those problems. If anything, what we see here is a Celestia that was long ago corrupted by dark magic, but rather than amplifying her worst traits, it simply twisted her best ones. She absolutely believes her little ponies deserve harmony and safety, but how she arrives at those outcomes is frightening.

When you drill down into that far, this story becomes a tragedy: Celestia will do whatever it takes to ensure peace and harmony in Equestria, and in the pursuit of that goal will eventually lose entirely those things that she holds dear.

Well done once again, SPark. This is story is like my iPhone 7: Just when I think I have it all figured out, I accidentally find the flyover function in Maps and it's the coolest thing ever.

8597807
Well, I can't take credit for this conceptually, as it was a commission. I just provided the execution, the ideas were all Rated Ponystar.

8597818
SPark, I really must insist that you not cloud the issue at hand with things like "facts" and "objective reality."

8598140
Sorry, sorry, don't know what I was thinking.

Damn... this was Deliciously Dark.

The writing was good, and it sets the mood very well. But unfortunately it does seem to fit the mold of every "bad" Tyrantlestia fic, wherein she would have to be either stupid or incompetent. Her reasoning of 'one life versus one thousand' falls apart when it's the one life that ends up saving millions later on. This works fine as a standalone piece, but I think it would be fantastic as a longer story showcasing how Celestia "sacrificing" one pony ends up costing her ALL the ponies in the long run.

Celestia's expression turned sad and her voice was softly mournful as she said, "So you're set on your course, then? You're bound and determined to tell all Equestria? I cannot convince you otherwise?"

"Nothing you could say can make what you've done right, no," snapped Twilight.

This Twilight is not very smart :facehoof:

Ohh. Chilling but a good read. Upvoted.

You interpret her as fully understanding what's gonna happen, but ultimately committed to "never compromise, not even in the face of Armageddon" principle?

I always love stories that show the darker side of individuals, it grounds me to reality and reminds me that there is no such thing as a good person, just less bad ones
