History remembers Sombra as a brutal, power-hungry tyrant, controlled by the darkness in his heart. A force of pure evil exceeded by few.
But was he truly as harsh as the history texts make him? What if, behind all the megalomania and paranoia, there was a pony who felt that he was truly doing the right thing. Both for his people, and for his son?

Written for the Everfree NW pre con contest.

Yes! I've been waiting for this to upload, I really really enjoyed this. Showing Sombra display kindness and understanding to those who needed it, and love to those he loves was so interesting. He isn't just the tyrant everyone fears...I love your version of Sombra, if you were to write a spinoff of this I would enjoy it greatly.

Good luck at EFNW, I think your story will be well received!

I really like this story! It's an interesting take on Sombra and his actions and...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooo!

How interesting, this take on Sombra. No sooner do I personally garner interest in alternate Sombra do I see the way other authors do it.

I'm intrigued that the Griffins are significantly involved here, as you would think that even Eequestria would have issues with them. Then again, the enemy of my enemy and all, though why Equestria would go to war with the Empire is not mentioned and is something to wonder about. We can assume from context the griffins want their vassals back and are willing to go to war for it.

Again, interesting story, and grand job on the descriptive details.

Sombra the father and resistance fighter? That's a new one. I also like how we can see his ambitions have slowly broken down due to the war with the Griffins.

Finally someone else that thought Sombra was written unfairly in the show. I felt like i was the only one trying to write a better version, I'll read yours right away. Oh and to anyone that wants more kinda good Sombra I'm personally writing "Sombra's Redemption" which is much longer. :trollestia:

I like how you made a sane Sombra that thinks realistically, it was really interesting to read.

Have you ever considered submitting this story to Equestria Daily? You can find out how to do so here.

You did pretty good. There were several typistry errors though.

5712823 various lines that don't end with punctuation,

But hadn’t’ the original contract been for only six months?

A mocking voice sprang up in Sombra’s head. Admit it, Sombra. You enslaved your own
people.

why is this on two lines instead of 1. it also happens here

“No milord.” The guard said. “We’ve tried every form of persuasion we know, and still he
refuses to speak.”

There were a few more I remember seeing, but I can't find them again

You're not the only one. (I know this comment is like, two years old, but what the hell. You never know who is still out there listening, right?) :pinkiehappy:

7159911 Yep! I'm actually nearing the climax of Sombra's Redemption too..and I may do a sequel..

Wow, I actually like this. I have a personal interest in fictional villains who think what they're doing is legitimately the right thing. They're always fascinating to watch or read about.
