When Rarity has a chance meeting with Braeburn, a blossoming friendship is tested by the latter's sudden silence. Undeterred, Rarity chases the frontier pony to Appleloosa, determined to know what he is keeping from her and keep their connection alive.

She finds a new world clashing with everything she thought she valued, a town determined to push her generosity to the limit, and obligations tearing her in two directions at once. Amidst the dirt and sand, a search for friendship turns into something much more serious.

Fear, it is one of the most primal emotions any sentient being can feel. Fear of the unknown, fear of death and fear of loss. Fear can overtake and consume a being in so many ways. It has been this emotion that Thaal Sinestro has built his Sinestro Corp on. They plan to rule all of known space, using fear as their weapon.

Fear, it is often a word associated with the infamous Nightmare Moon, and even though Luna is no longer the infamous mare of legend, one can never totally discard the past. When a mysterious yellow ring appears before Luna, granting her untold and immeasurable power, will she give in to the temptation and enslave Equestria with fear, becoming the tyrant Nightmare Moon once more? Or will she find some way to use her new powers for good?

The thousandth Summer Sun Celebration is approaching. With it will come the return of Nightmare Moon. Celestia has no student to call upon to save Equestria, and is doing all she can to make the last day of peace meaningful for her people.

Meanwhile, Spike "Purple Prose" Flail is a reporter for the Canterlot Sun. He finds himself being shipped down to the boonies with his longtime friend and assistant, Twilight, to cover the biggest festival Equestria has seen in a millennium!

But even with a visit from the princess, there's no way someplace as boring as Ponyville could ever be newsworthy. Right?
