My name is Arc.

Ten years ago, I joined the gleaming order of the imperial guards under Guard Captain Shining Armour. I'm a unicorn who attended and graduated Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. My teachers call me lazy and said I never truly tried to do anything. It's not my fault I sometimes find Magic difficult. It just happens!

But something's happened, and I'm not sure I'll ever be the same after this.

(I don't mind if you guys don't like this fic, as is standard, but please, if you downthumb it, tell me what it is you dislike about it so maybe I won't stuff up in future fiction. It'd be greatly appreciated)

THIS IS A SIMILAR BUT DIFFERENT UNIVERSE. I wrote this, starting during late Season 2, so I had to make judgment calls based on the information I had. As such, certain episodes thereafter do not match up, or fit in different places. Consequently, it is a very similar alternate universe. Many events happen in both this and the show timeline, but do not always match. I tried to stay consistent when possible, but certain things were lost to disagreements in interpretation. I like how I wrote my story and will not force it to match what came after I started writing. I've also decided to consider this fluidly finished. I still seem to make updates, but I no longer guarantee them.

In the aftermath of the wedding, Spike is bitter and avoiding everyone. Twilight's determined to find out what's bothering her charge, but she walks a very fine line when dealing with an emotionally distraught child.

Meanwhile, Rainbow Dash suspects something's wrong with Scootaloo, so she starts spending more time with her in hopes of picking the secret from her brain. As she begins to truly mentor the young filly for the first time ever, she begins to see the advantages to having a little sister.

And while all this is going on, Pinkie is struggling with some old family issues that have been brought to the surface, meaning she might have to confront her past at last.

The storm is breaking on the Horizon.

It's been two months since the battle against Nightmare Moon. Luna is recovering, Celestia is busy turning the government back into a diarchy, and the Mane Six have returned to their lives. All seems well, but when Celestia discovers that half of the power of the Elements of Harmony have been transferred to each of the Bearers, she decides to send thirteen mysterious members of the Royal Guard to monitor them as they manifest and develop their new abilities.

The sins of a forgotten war still linger, and an ancient evil lurks in the shadows, just waiting for the right time to strike. The Mane Six suddenly find themselves once again at the heart of a conspiracy to bring about Eternal Night, and only by awakening their powers and realizing their full potential can they do anything to stop it. I had a past full of disgrace, shame, and loneliness. Things that I wish had never happened. Only a few ponies know the truth. But I could only keep my past away for so long...

After the Hivemind broke apart, most of us went mad with emotions we had never felt before. Newfound intelligence, free will, and actual clear thoughts. Those of us that could control these thoughts either went into hiding or lived as a strange form of vampires, eventually being burned at the stake or having a silver dagger run through their skull. I did neither of those. In fact, I envied the ponies I once consumed.

I wanted to be one of them.
