There are many rules to a good horror film. Most ponies learn them with time and experience.

Twilight never did. Now, trapped in a desolate inn at the end of a long driveway, far from help, she will learn of them. Or, at least, one of them. The one Rarity, her only surviving friend, insists is keeping Twilight alive.

To everyponies misfortune, Twilight has questions, and fleeing in terror like she should will not get her the answers.

It’s going to be a bad night for the killer.

After Luna had written to her about how she wouldn't be able to make it to Ponyville for Nightmare Night, Twilight decided to organize a small camping trip to the outskirts of the Everfree Forest with her friends. She'd initially planned to have Trixie come along and entertain them with a small show, but unfortunately the unicorn had declined the offer, saying that she had something else to do.

So, since it was, after all, Nightmare Night, Twilight decided that the best thing to do to pass the time would be to tell scary stories to each other around the fire. She was not expecting her friends to each have such a diverse concept of what "scary" means.

Octavia made a promise to Pinkie Pie – not just any promise, but a solemn Pinkie promise. Unfortunately for Octavia, she then became busy and forgot all about it. Her grim failure didn’t even register until the pink nightmare came to find her.

Octavia deeply regretted her mistake, but by then it was too late. It was only a matter of time – because no one can hide from Pinkie for very long.

Telling scary stories around the campfire is a long camping tradition, but when Applejack gets tired of hearing Rainbow Dash tell the same story with different words, she decides to share one of her own that her mother told to her, a long time ago. It couldn’t possibly be true, of course, no matter what Pear Butter had said all those years before.

It’s not as if anyone has ever seen any proof, after all.

One night, half-awake in the dark, Twilight hears the knocking of pipes in the castle.

So why would an absolute goddess like Sunset Shimmer be interested in her? Because they look similar and share the same name? Because the real Twilight is off in Equestria? That must be it. She's just a placeholder. A low grade knockoff of what Sunset really wants. And sooner or later, she'll end up disappointed. They all will.

Sunset Shimmer, twice savior of Canterlot High who earned her wings by using the combined magic of the Earth elements of harmony to save the world from Twilight Sparkle (you know... the one with the glasses). She's offered to help Twilight's (you know.. the alicorn Princess of Friendship) new student learn about friendship while the whole crew embarks on a trip to the Crystal Empire. CHS has become a breeding ground for assholes and rampant hatred in the halls. No one knows this better than Sunset Shimmer, whom, without her friends at her side, is the prime scapegoat for all the slander being thrown around. Tired of being the punching bag for all of CHS's problems, Sunset searches for something, anything that will make her life feel worth it again. She needed to prove her innocence. What she didn't know was where her tired feet would take her.

Now, she finds herself surrounded by a group that may be willing to believe her. With new friendships forming between Sunset and CHS's soccer team, the Wondercolts, will she be able to clear her name? Or will the ever expanding reach of Anon-a-Miss smear it beyond the point of no return?
