    A Final (Proper) Final Farewell

Well, it's finally arrived at the time I've been dreading for more than a few months now. I honestly thought, when I first made my account on fimfic, that I'd have this for a good few years and that it'd be a nice place for relaxing, meeting people and discussing stories, due to my growing fondness of creative writing and that sorta thing. Now, if you'll excuse me for a few minutes, I'm gonna go

To the Capitalist Pit of Sin (America)

Goin' on holiday for two weeks, not gonna be able to write very much unfortunately. Visitin' Florida, fuck yeah! Still, I managed to get two new chapters of TLB posted this week, and six chapters on another story. Also, Skype:

[02:43:00] Siewwa: Heh. Your money is weiiiiiiird...
[02:43:06] Siewwa: All same-shaped, and green...
    [02:43:18] twow443: Okay, that's really funny.

    Sierra Reads a Write

Ok, put simply, I've realised exactly how many good stories I've read in this fandom. Not enough! To be honest, I wanna read some of the more widely-known stories that everyone refers back to at some point or another. End of Ponies, Fallout: Equestria (and derivatives thereof), not Past Sins, uh... yeah, that's the extent of my literary knowledge within the fandom.

    Apologies

Well, I just wanna get started by apologising for my complete absense from FiMFic for the past few weeks. It was unavoidable, really; lots of work, moving house, some sickness... but still, I'm ready to get writing again. *glances at favourites list* Oh, and reading... yup. Got a few chapters already written for The Lost Battalion, a few almost finished for Brushy, an almost-finished SoL story

    A Server!? Also, Updates

So, a quick rundown on stories:

A-Level exams. So, story-writing is nigh-on impossibru. Well, I could, but I wouldn't have enough time to write anything decent. Therefore, I'm going to leave writing until I'm in a better position to do so.

Ok, put simply, I've realised exactly how many good stories I've read in this fandom. Not enough! End of Ponies, Fallout: Equestria (and derivatives thereof), not Past Sins, uh... yeah, that's the extent of my literary knowledge within the fandom.

Please, tell me stories to read! I must read more! I must read about zombie ponies, and ponies that bake confectionary! I must read about ponies that fly spaceships, or ponies that pelt each other with snowballs in the winter! I must read! And now, obligatory ponies reading:

i would ask you to read my fic, "spike's heart problem", but it is not famuos or a fic you would tipicly recomend.:fluttercry:

but i would say read "my imortal wish". it was good and a very sad fic about death and suicide:pinkiesad2:

SIERRA YOU'RE NOT DEAD!!1!11!!one!

I can't really think of anything, really. I'm boring like that.

This is my own horn. I'm going to toot it:
*toot*
Later stories will involve ponies in space ships.
Other stuff in my 'signal boosts' section are stories I think are worth reading.

You see my user page? All of those favorites boxes? Yeah, every story there. Read them.

I am too tired to post anything ATM, please check my page for some suggestions. Thnx, and sorry for not being 120% helpful.

Hmm... let's see. My personal database of read fanfics contains over 650 stories... Too bad them are not sorted by how much I like them, though. But I'll look up some good ones from there. Note that this list is nowhere near complete, since there are literally hundreds of good fics to pick from!

Below are listed some stories I would suggest, in no particular order. All are complete, unless I say otherwise (some of these bad already been mentioned before).

First some longer (>30,000 words) fics:

Off The Edge Of The Map
A relatively short (~35,000) adventure story starring Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash, as they got thrown into unknown place somewhere and have to find a way back to Ponyville. Contains light shipping between the two (IIRC it wasn't too prominent even if you don't like FlutterDash that much). I think this was the first >10,000 word fanfic I read, and the first adventure fanfic I read as well.

Apotheosis
Another adventure story; a sequel to the one above, starring Luna and Twilight. Slightly longer, having about 45,000 words. Contains shipping between Luna and Twi.

Windfall and its sequel Earth & Sky
While Windfall is short (~18,000 words), the sequel Earth & Sky is very long, with ~260,000 words. Mostly slice-of-lifeish, with some adventure elements added in the sequel. Has quite a lot of shipping.

It's a Dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door (link to EQD, not found in Fimfiction)
Long (~140,000 words) adventure story with Applejack, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity. Just read it if you have time; In my opinion it's a great world-building fanfic from early fandom, having been written before season 2 was even heard of yet.

White Demure
Quite short adventure fic (~45,000 words). Apple Bloom has caught a mysterious disease, and the mane 6 have to find a cure for it. They split into three groups to find the needed ingredients.

Upheaval: Breaking Point and its sequel Upheaval: Reckoning
Very long (~380,000 words, incomplete) adventure/war fic, starring mane 6 + Spike, and several OCs. The alicorns also play a significant role in this. Can't tell much else about this fic without spoilers, though.

CRISIS: Equestria (link to EQD, not found in Fimfiction)
A very long adventure fanfic (~600,000 words, incomplete) starring the mane 6 and several OCs. Takes place in another Equestria, a parallel universe to the one we know.

A Bluebird's Song
Long (~200,000 words) shipfic, with some adventure and dark parts added. If you like TwiDash and long stories, this is a must read.

Twilight's List
Some more TwiDash. Relatively short (~48,000 words).

Those Blue Wings
Medium length (~66,000 words) slice-of-lifeish shipfic. This is for you if you like AppleDash.

On a Cross and Arrow
Quite long (~85,000 words). The mane 6 meet their stallion counterparts in a parallel dimension.

Then some shorter (<30,000 words) fanfics:

The Contest (6,700 words; comedy)
Fluttershy is the world champion in "The Quiet Game", and enters a competition to defend her crown.

The Birds and the Bees (3,500 words; comedy)
CMC try to find out where foals come from.

Wingmares (21,000 words; slice of life)
A backstory about how Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash met in the flight school, and some friendshipping between them.

Bubbles (2,500 words, sad; link to EQD, not found in Fimfiction)
A short backstory starring Derpy.

Striped Like Me (12,500 words; comedy)
Alternate version of the poison joke incident in season 1 episode 9, where Applejack's joke is quite different...

Newbie Dish (1,500 words; comedy)
Rainbow Dash cooking, with some assistance from Fluttershy. Nuff said.

Of Cottages and Cloud Houses (4,600 words; slice of life)
Another Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash backstory, from about the time they moved to Ponyville.

I couldn't wake you, because you can never wake up again... (5,800 words, sad)
A sad story starring Scootaloo. (Don't let the Pony Creator cover image with black alicorn fool you; this is IMO a good sad story)

Oh, and finally...

I must read about ... ponies that bake confectionary ... or ponies that pelt each other with snowballs in the winter!

The Cutie Mark Bakers and Cold War, both by myself. :twilightsheepish:
(I know you have read these already, but I just had to put them here as you explicitly mentioned snowball fights and ponies baking...)

I guess that's enough for now. There are many, many more stories I've liked, but listing all I liked would be way too much work. I hope this post helped to find some stories you liked anyway. If you want more sad/shipping/comedy/grimdark/mature/whatever fic recommendations, just give a word and I can look up for more. Just don't ask for crossovers or sci-fi, I haven't read but a few of those.

930094 Might take a look, I have plenty of time to catch up on my reading, as you probably saw!

930107 Dead? Nah, death got boring quickly. I'm still around in places, either working on stories on my other accounts or on Skype, I guess. Also, I have exactly the same with stories, as seen by the fact that Fo:E was on my top list of read stories.

930121 I'll certainly take a look at them! And spaceships, you say? I like writing sci-fi as well

930173 Don't know why I didn't think of that first :twilightsheepish:

930187 Hmmm... out of that list, I've read one chapter of Austraeoh. That's it. :twilightoops: Still, that's a brilliant list for me to attack! Thank you!

930285 Hey mate, no worries! It's not compulsory to post suggestions :rainbowlaugh: I'll be sure to check out your page though!

930509 *whistles* Damn... that's a good set of stories :rainbowkiss: Gotta say, Windfall looks quite interesting. I'll be sure to check that out! Also:

I must read about ... ponies that bake confectionary ... or ponies that pelt each other with snowballs in the winter!

Yes... referring to those two subjects was in no way also referring to two literary masterpieces that I had the luck to stumble across... :trixieshiftleft::trixieshiftright:

Great! Well, time to download a fair few of these to read on a very long flight I have this week. I strongly doubt I'll be able to sleep the whole nine hours, so I'm taking plenty of ponyfiction to keep myself occupied. I probably won't have access to an internet connection while I'm there, but I'm gonna be reading and writing regardless! Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

Seattle's Angels is another good place to look.

931050
Yes! Ponies in SPAAAAACE! It's the first story of a Star Trek crossover series, actually. I've got some OMG epic ideas that I think need to be built up towards.

Hey Sierra, I see that people are posting a lot of stories :P Would it be possible for you to make a blog that has a master-list of all of dese? I wanna read some of these, but there are so many that I'll let someone else charge into the storm that is fanfiction before I choose what they reccomend...

Fluttershy = me
Changelings = fimfiction

:rainbowderp:

Here's a milieu of high rated and popular to low rated and unpopular, to plain old crazy just for laughs, to high quality as hell

Rebirth of the Damned Somewhat annoying grammar, but it's bloody hilarious for those who like a crazy crossover adventure with Warcraft.

I know you're an Abhorsen fan because you read my crossover (The Seven Bells and The Six Bearers), so here is Abhorsen: Friendship is Free Magic. But as opposed to the Abhorsen goes to Equestria, Rarity ends up at Wyverly College.

930107 You got no idea? I'll recommend your story because it's good: I Am Not a Monster Discord and Celestia had a son. O_O

My Mother Moves the Moon Luna adopts an orphan Pipsqueak. Hijinks, hilarity, and heart attacks of cuteness occur.

Trixie's New Life in the Crystal Empire because angsty sad Trixie is interesting Trixie.

Who ships Celestia and Pinkie Pie in an absolutely spectacular manner with great gradual pacing? This guy does: Twice as Bright

Le most popular one shot recently The Price of Generosity

Razorbeam of Visionary brings you a Twi X Steampunk Mechanic ship that is quite romantic. Plus there is a good fight scene somewhere there: Tinkermane

And of course I must self-promote something so I shoot out my now most popular story:
What if Princess Celestia was a Changeling Queen all along? Princess Celestia: The Changeling Queen

I would DEFINITELY second A Bluebird's Song, as well as White Box (Gdocs Version, much more fun to read). Both are very impacting. Another powerful read is Let Them Remember Us As Monsters, which is actually more like a poem, but still.

If you like things like Lord of the Rings,or Skyrim, or other fantasy adventures, you should read these:
Lost and Found
Last of the Dragonlords

Short and thought-provoking?
A Portrait of Hope
Once Upon a Time
Isn't it Great to be Different?

Romance? (A Bluebird's Song is included here.)
In Her Blood
The Snow on Her Cheek

Epic? (FoE and Lost and Found fit here too)
Anthropology
(After reading FoE)
Fallout Equestria: Memories

There are many more I want to put up, but I think you've gotten enough put on your plate in the last sixteen hours... :twilightoops: But if you ever need more to read, you know who to look for!

And then of course... there are... you know... my stories...

Well, you already read my stories. Or at least some of them.

I do even less reading than you, so I really don't have much to suggest.

931052 :rainbowkiss:

931246 Aye, I forgot about them too.

931363 Ponies in space? I love writing about that as well. :rainbowkiss: I disagree with Trek on a few points (such as the use of sonic weapons in space) so I usually just go with my own concepts, like a combined Alcubierre/impulse drive for superluminal and interplanetary travel. So many ideas!

931575 I could make a blog, aye. What did you have in mind? Just a list of all the stories here, or my thoughts of each as well, updated as I plough through them with relative slowness?
Stories: :flutterrage:
Me: :twilightoops:

931582 Oooh! Some of those caught my eye when I first saw them, actually. MMMtM looks very interesting indeed, and I imagine that'll be the first I start on. Thanks for those!

931702 Aye, I've heard good things about White Box (the GDoc version). I almost finished Anthropology, but I lost interest near the end. As I saw someone once say, it would have been a great story if it had finished at Chapter 10, or at least gone in a different direction. Cheers for the list!

932312 Aye, and I enjoy them as well.

932371 so shall you read my fic?:fluttercry::pinkiesad2::applecry::fluttershysad::fluttercry::fluttercry::fluttercry::fluttercry::fluttercry::pinkiesad2::pinkiesad2::pinkiesad2::pinkiesad2::pinkiesad2::pinkiesad2::pinkiesad2::pinkiesad2::pinkiesad2:

932385 More than likely at some point, aye.

932392:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay: times 10000000000 times infinity yay's thnak you very much:pinkiesad2:

932371
It's Trek. I can ignore the ideas I don't really like, there isn't that hard a continuity.

932371 Well, if you're gonna do a huge fanfic read-a-thon anyway, you might as well jot down a few of your thoughts on each of them. If you weren't gonna end up reading all of them, then it would be pretty tedious doing all that. Maybe instead of doing all of them you could do just the ones that you read?

Oh, and, uh, if you DO make the blog, I need you to add this:

There's no special reason for you to add that vid, it's just important...for some reason. You know, what with the paradoxes and all that...stuff...

932371 An excellent choice. MMMtM is pretty darn good though its incomplete, it takes premise that has been done or theorized before, and uses excellent writing to enhance the already recognizable premise along with excellent characterization.

One warning about Rebirth of the Damned. I am quite afraid it will make you :flutterrage: because the grammar is so-so at times, mainly minor things that don't interfere with the content, but their are quite a few good comedy + fight scenes there + a ship that so works if you're into warcraft.

And meh, you can help me by giving a nice read/later review on my story PC:TCQ :twilightsheepish:. I need someone to knock me off my pedestal.

932371 Not a problem! But honestly? I couldn't disagree more with that person. The reason I love that story so much is because of the fact that it goes full circle. And while I suppose it could've been forced to happen by chapter ten, it wouldn't have had the same effect. Leave it like it is, because that's how its great.
