That dark threat at the end of the story really took a hammer to my head canon of Lyra. I thought she was supposed to be sweet and when drunk just got exponentially more silly. 
Despite the small mistakes, it was no near as bad as some authors where English is the first language.

Admittedly, when I've been with a girl in the past, I've had that lingering fear in the back of my head that she could say "rape" (regardless of all those times being consenting) if I upset her for some reason and I would be screwed.
